Good post Emmitt. I don't get it. I think we ALL understand that the defense is horrible and the worst part of the team right now. However, what can be done about it? Nothing really. There aren't any other players riding the bench that might make a significant difference. Am I wrong about that? So while I think the vast majority agree that the defense is in a worse situation than the QB position nothing can be done, at least right now. However, the QB situation can be improved and some believe greatly. Just because people are more vocal about a change at QB doesn't mean they are overlooking how bad the defense is.

Vizza right now is 6-14 for 85 yards according to yahoo
-
This might sound crazy, but it's one thing to lose big and it's another to seemingly provide no resistence to the opposition. How disgusting.

TD by future Cowboys RB Darren McFadden 24-0
-
Well that's better than I thought. CSTV already has it at 21-0, I guess that's wrong? I hope. Well at least for now it's 14-0
-
I know that the CSTV one is pretty good, but I don't know where that is. If anyone knows of a good one please post it for me. Thanks

You guys are definitely entitled to your opinion, but I completely disagree! Felix Jones would be a Heisman candidate at just about any other program in the country. He's just overshadowed by McFadden.
-
If you believe that Felix Jones is a top 10 back the drop-off from McFadden to him can't be too great right? That's what I meant. I agree McFadden is better, but Jones can be just as dangerous. I would not agree that he is by far the better of the two.
-
Yea there is one problem though. His backup, and I use that term loosely, Felix Jones is just as good! Sort of like Chris Brown going down and Allen Patrick hurt. We've seen what DeMarco Murray has done since week 1.

It's not about being affraid to play D-1 teams, it's about being realistic. You call them whatever you want, but they are all there for the same purpose. Raising money for a football program that has to support many other non-rev sports and can't do it with attendance and BCS money and a great TV deal. Where do you think most schools get there budgets so the diving team can fly to a meet in North Carolina or the golf team can compete in California? It comes from the revenue sports and that's mainly football and men's basketball. So yes they are opportunities, opportunities to make a good amount of money. I'm not saying North Texas doesn't go in trying to win, of course they do. And if a coach ever went into a game not trying to win it he should be fired on the spot. I have no problem playing a money game, I would just also like to see more non-con games that we view as winnable. Maybe one money game, three winnable games. We have/had two this year. Just don't know if that's financially feasible right now.

Is It Me Or Are The A Ton More New Members Recently?
SouthBendGreen replied to SouthBendGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Well I tell you I love all the new members. It's great! Glad to see it because it makes this community that much more credible and entertaining. Also, as I already knew, but Lorenzo is the man. Coming through with the stats! Nice. -
I have felt from before the season even started that by the mid-point of the season Vizza would be the starter and I've never changed my opinion on that. Regardless of where you fall on the DM debate, noone should be shocked when Vizza takes over fulltime. And as always, IMO.

I Get All My Mean Green Highlights...
SouthBendGreen replied to ParksAndRecRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Hey, Thanks for the kind words fellas. I love my alma mater, hopefully it shoes! Patrick Good catch on my misspelling. Man, I'm the worst at typing and checking. -
Let me first say that I'm not complaining at all. But I remember a few years ago when the majority of the board was populated by the same regulars. Granted we're all still here, but I seeing a lot more activity from new members. Whatever the reason I love it, but I'm curious if it is mainly SLC followers now following NT? I can tell by some of the login names that's the case, but not all. Maybe there are more students getting into NT football, which is also great. Fell free to chime in old and new alike. Again, no complaints from me, just curious. Patrick Holy Crap what a butcher job I did on the title of the post. My bad on that. Typing quickly gets me everytime. I meant to say is it me, or are there a ton more new members recently?

Because it is. If we were playing say Duke or Northwestern, then no, but Clemson definitely is one!

The video is choppy and it also looks like it's from 1973!

Sun Belt Conference Roundup - Week 3

Not saying it's the greatest, but better. Ark State played Texas close and got screwed. MTSU got thumped by LSU but so did VA Tech and the Blue Raiders also played Louisvill real tight. Troy lost to Florida, but they still might be the best team in the country and then killed Okie State. Not to mention FAU over Minnesota. I'm just saying the teams are better than they have been. Granted that might not be saying much.

Sun Belt Conference Roundup - Week 3
SouthBendGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I can't be lumped in with that. I talked up the Troy and FAU win all over the country and SIRIUS radio! I actually took a call from a Troy fan on Friday night after their win. I do my best to spread the Belt and more importantly North Texas word all over the country. -
Well said Old Timer and I always enjoy your posts in the VIP section. Anyway, I haven't been following NT that long, only since I enrolled in 1994, but this is the best recruiting situation we've ever been in. To somehow find a way to complain about the way the current staff recruits is absolutely CRAZY. I remember Matt Simon making excuses EVERY SINGLE WEEK about why he couldn't compete with anyone for kids. Not saying he didn't have legitimate complaints, but quit crying and deal with it or make it better. Then we had to deal with DD's recruiting strategy which seemed to be just wait until the big boys have eaten and then take leftovers. Not that we didn't find gems there and I don't mean to denigrate any current DD recruit, but you get what I'm saying. I like to see us being competitive now with big name programs. Regardless of what some write, we have beaten out big name schools for some of these kids. And I mean offers not just interest. And also if you subscribe to scout or read the VIP section you'll see we are zeroed in on other kids that have offers from big name schools as well and they list NT as a top choice. For the first time since I've really been following NT recruiting which is like 6 or 7 years, I feel this is clearly the best situation we've been in since the early 90's and maybe Old Timer can speak to before that. Patrick I just hope the admins limit who has access to the VIP section
-
I don't know if the rate of wins would go up substantially with many more home games. I just think these teams are much improved. I really hope we catch these schools soon and help to move the belt out of the cellar of the 1-A conferences.

I posted much more info on Ben in the VIP section including what schools he likes.

Forgive me if this question has been asked before or is a whip. If Riley were at NT RIGHT NOW, would he start? I don't think it's a crazy question when you consider how long he's played in the system and his abilities. The reason I ask is this, if you say yes then that answers the question about Vizza's future. I've only seen Riley's highlights and he state championship game last year so I can't answer that. Looking for the opinions of those that have seen him play a lot compared our current QBs. As for this year, put me in the camp of wanting to see what Vizza can do. I think it's safe to say that either way it shouldn't really affect the outcome for this year in the negative. And Vizza4QB, it's common knowledge that Riley wasn't going to play much QB at UT. You make it sound like you have some inside info. And he's not going to play WR at NT, he specifically said he wants to prove he can play QB at the collegiate level.

Yea, I too am interested when the website goes live so some of us Mean Green fans outside of Texas can make some purchases. Thanks.
