Worst Defense in AAC and Solid Case for Worst in FBS
BigWillie replied to Meangreen Fight's topic in Mean Green Football
The difference is, if you or I were this bad at our job, we would be gone by now. -
I have a feeling you are right.

If we still have this coach and scheme after this season...

Of course no post game from Caponi. So far, he hasn't had to answer for anything. -

Last week was fools gold on defense. I take back all my comments defending them. -

100%. This defense couldn't beat many TX high school teams. -

I don't know why, but Jason Edwards is my pick. I feel like he is just a flat our scorer and is FAST. I have so much excitement about him. -

I think we are on the same page here. I have to go back to my other posts about taking a little bit of time to learn things from HC down to players, but I am still very cautious. This week will really show whether they are going to continue the trend. -
And be on our way to another bowl that we could get embarrassed at.

So, this was the results of each possession for Tulane in the first half: TD, Fumble, Downs, TD, Int, TD. There were some plays that they were loose, but it is very hard to say that the defense we saw in FIU (an inferior team) is the same defense that played this game. I know the original post was about the D, but we can't ignore how bad our offense was in the first half. Of course they get the praise because they played so damn well in the second half. Now, I am still very cautiously optimistic, but to me, this is what you want to see for the last 2 weeks.

It's so funny an outsider can realize this when some of our own fanbase can't. https://csnbbs.com/thread-979600-post-19228371.html#pid19228371

This was the MOST frustrating part of the SL era the last couple of years.

Not sure I am following you here. They beat a bad Baylor team and that's about it. They are 5-2 and lost to Louisiana-Lafayette and South Alabama. We are really like 2-3 plays away from being 5-2 ourselves, which all don't have to do with the HC.

Did you watch the first half? I know they gave up 21, but that was more a product of being on the field way longer than they should have since the offense couldn't do anything. The amount of turnovers they generated and the stops they got on 4th down. Where were all those things against FIU and Cal? Among some of the other things they did right. I don't think it is fair to say they haven't improved because of one drive. I agree, to get to the next level, those are the drives they will need to stop, but if I watched the FIU game and the Tulane game back to back on the defensive side of the ball, I don't see how you can't say that's not improvement. -
Especially for when he was brought in. I mean comon guys, I get the criticism, but it has been said on here, unless your name is Deion Sanders, getting transfer portal players, a staff, having players on both side of the ball learn a new playbook in the length of time they were given is very hard for any school. I am not making excuses for this staff, but to think that with the above stated facts this team was going to steam roll opponents right out of the gate is looking through your green telescope.

Also, I saw the apathy of this fan base up close. As I was leaving, I screamed "Go Mean Green!!" and there were maybe 3 people that said something. The rest sat there blindly staring forward like they were hypnotized by hypno toad. -

You didn't see Texas Tech's freshman QB then. 😬 Or maybe you also missed our first couple of games.... -

That is a very good point. I am one of the biggest critics of this defense, but comon guys, you can't ask much more. Defense holds to 2 scores and offense racked it up. You guys would probably complain about playing early on a nationally televised game. Oh wait.... -

I am not so sure. There were several times we beat the blitz with a run, Rogers first down by running, or a quick throw. It is just magnified on the times this doesn't happen. It was a good defensive call against a bad offensive call on the fumble recovery near our red zone. QBs getting blindsided is part of the game and even the best QBs fumble in those situations. That isn't on Rogers IMO.
