There is no If, they are. And they smartly should continue. Also, our head up recruiting battles vs these programs outside of UTEP tells a vivid story. And us beating them 1 year doesn't and didn't change the very clear recruiting narrative.
-
I mean our recruiting history is pretty concrete evidence. Sure, other variables are meshed in there, but the high rates 3 star guys that have options surely takes that into consideration. And if they're not taking it into consideration, I can assure the staff's at La tech, UTSA, UTEP, So Miss, etc. are taking it into consideration for them with some friendly negative recruiting against us.
-
Because these UDFA guys going into the NFL camps were still having accidents on themselves the last time a UNT player was drafted. It's turning into an issue. A significant recruiting issue. No one is raining on anyone's parade, just pointing out a fact.

Mean Green 2017 Football Survey Results

That is all that truly matters to me. The GB could come out in their birthday suits and the PA guy could be screaming at us, but if we win I walk away very satisfied. -
Huge case regarding transfers - Shea Patterson
Ben Gooding replied to golfingomez's topic in Mean Green Football
This is not precedent. I believe it parlays from Ole Miss' former pervert HC as well as the cheating. Their players had a window of opportunity to transfer with no penalty and maybe Patterson missed that window and this is the NCAA opening it back up for him? -

UNT Spends Least in the State on Recruiting
Ben Gooding replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in Mean Green Football
No, you're right. Things are looking good. There is no denying that. But when things start looking good that is when the microscope has to be dusted off. It's a good thing that we are having to hone in on deficiencies rather than the thing being one big cluster F like before. We can't afford this mini run to be a flash. We have to turn it into consistency. -

If the defense goes for 35 ppg again...yes. -
I don't think it will be difficult game tbh. However, Liberty is setting themselves up for future success. They have home and home's with both Virginia and Virginia Tech in the future, Virginia Tech being a 2 for 2.

UNT Spends Least in the State on Recruiting
Ben Gooding replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Does the current budget not pay for postage and envelopes? Or even hotel rooms, rentals, hosting recruits, etc.? Because I know we currently do all of this as it stands now. Are the coaches paying out of pocket for these? Again, boost the budget. But some strict expectations need to be set if that is the way they are going to go. Otherwise, we're just money whipping the coaches with luxuries while still landing 10th place finishes in CUSA. -

Ben Gooding replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Oh, you've been a recruiting coordinator in college at the D1 level? Please explain to us your experiences and the expenses that went along with it. A budget can always improve. But for what? Littrell has said numerous times that he wants to recruit Denton county and the counties that touch. Do we really need to amp the budget up for that? Is this going to be cost effective? Is the bang for buck going to coincide? His recruiting tendencies and more importantly results with recruits in the North Texas region doesn't warrant a budget increase. IMO, it wouldn't pay off because like has been stated over and over and proven in his results, he is an X & O/developmental coach and not a swaggy recruiting guru. If the budget is pushed, great. But expectations must be set if an increase is going to be set forth. -

I could imagine it. And I would imagine I would think it's a waste of resources if we're actually landing local talent with a high end recruiting budget. -

I would agree with this if we were recruiting out of Ruston or Hattiesburg. We're not. -

You can make that argument for programs that are teetering every year. The good programs don't put themselves in that situation that often. And the bad programs aren't competitive enough to be in that situation. So, silver lining? -
DRC: Follow-up thoughts on UNT's depth chart
Ben Gooding replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, that is not the play I am referring to. I'm actually not afraid of those kind of plays. It gives Fine sliding/avoid contact options. I am talking more so about the shotgun hesitation/draw look Fine presents while the H-back flows over and backside tackle pull. Fine will hesitate and wait for the H-back/TE to kickout and the tackle will lead into the hole. I guess a counter trey of sorts. Fine's option then presents itself to be only tackled by players significantly larger. -
DRC: Follow-up thoughts on UNT's depth chart
Ben Gooding replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes...This may not be your granddaddy's power play, but it has the basic principles applied. Florida is here running the play with a 6'3" 245lb fullback playing quarterback. We do it with a 180lb slot playing quarterback. We need far less of this unless the defense just presents itself for an untouched run of this caliber. Otherwise, go full air raid and run your backs with the ball. I'm not against running the QB if the game flow presents itself...Just not like this. It's senseless. -

You asked the question. I answered the question. To answer another, we should beat them all. Or at least not get our pants pulled down vs them all? I think it's safe to say he hasn't proven himself to be a big game coach. I think it's also safe to say there is more evidence that suggests he is not a big game game than being a big game coach. Would you not agree? -
UNT Spends Least in the State on Recruiting
Ben Gooding replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in Mean Green Football
The very conversation topic should be an area of concern. A rather big one. 0-3 in Postseason play. 0-1 to solidify the opportunity for post season play. 0-1 in determining home field host in post season play. 0-2 vs SMU. 1-1 vs UTSA. So, maybe not a big game coach? Though I would say that both regular season games vs Amy were big as well. So, 3-8 in "big" games. Negligence of the defense. Or for a better reference, see #1. If some guys don't pan out and/or if some key cogs don't improve/get healthy, this might be the making of a historically bad defense in 2018....Todd Dodge type stuff (OK, not that bad, but bad)....We were 116th in ppg last year. So, most would think that there is nowhere to go but up. But nothing really suggests improvement. Ah, yes...To make it constructive... This staff has done well, but these are some areas I would like to see improvements moving forward. -

An emotional bunch indeed. People on this same board grew infatuated with McCarney (And even RV, but we won't go there now). If people throw even a constructive critique at Littrell it's World ending for some. Like, how dare you? -
