Around the League / UNT Opponents
GMG24 replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Watched UAB/Tulsa, and UTSA/Tulane. UAB has the talent to beat anyone in the league can they put it together?? Tulsa, UTSA, should be gimme games in conference both looked really really bad today. Tulane could cause us problems due to running the match up zone. For some reason any form of Zone gives GMAC/Hodge teams big fits. Tulane is a very beatable opponent dependant upon us figuring out a match up zone opponent. I really hope we have some sort of press offense ready for a zone press ready for Memphis. -
I think the interior DL of Texas State had an incredible impact on our ability to run the ball. Those two interior fellas were MASSIVE. Surprised to see such large human beings playing at TX State AND excited to see Cassity bring us some big boys like that to UNT. Next year is going to be fun, I can't wait!

Up 42-22 at half I'm watching the replay and holy crap they are so much more athletic and physically dominating vs Memphis. Ouch

Thank you! That was fun!! TEAM ball is the best ball

UNT vs Texas State BOWL GAME THREAD!!
GMG24 replied to Mean Green Newz's topic in Mean Green Football
The first one was on the play call its a tunnel screen into the boundary in the redzone where all the windows get even tighter and space more condensed. I put the 1st one on EM, and he gets maybe 5% of the blame as with those screens he's throwing it to a spot anticipating OL/Blockers kicking all defenders to the Sideline and the WR "Tunneling" around said blockers. -

Did you see Hardaway's interview where they asked him about getting after the team in the timeout? He basically admitted he was trying to be a "players" coach in the past and this year he's taken the approach of holding them accountable and being the "Mean guy" when called for. -
Transfer Portal Entries After The Bowl Game

How many increased their stock? -
Of there starters out both DL played today. They were missing a RB, and OT essentially

I don't totally disagree, defense needs massive improvements. I was so heated today when we brought pressure on passing downs and DBs played off and head up leverage... Teach you at the most basic of levels of football at QB pressure try to throw a slant. If DB leverage is inside and takes that away throw the fade. We seemed good with giving up both a 5 yard hitch route, or slant all night. Brutal. If offense plays to their average of 34.8 (kick FG at half, and FG on 4th down) were pretty damn close and maybe the ball game looks different? GMG

Like all the other bowl games he won? LOL and dude had his QB every one of those.

It was a 10 ish point game until about 13/14 minutes left in 2nd half and Memphis pulled away and asserted their dominance. -
So sick of the crap this football program slings us

I particularly liked the Texas - State Texas - State Eat em up whatever the hell they say after that. 2 loud North - Texas maybe followed up with GMG lol IDK but I liked that it didn't have to slowly fade out after everyone was tired of yelling. -
I was, but that team had a chink in the armour they were more worried about going Pro and getting numbers (So I made that call based on talent and talent alone). This group really plays together and moves the ball for 1 extra pass, they have rim protectors for days, and they can absolutely fill it up from 3, crash the glass hard. Time will tell, but I've watched this Memphis group 3/4 times now and they're the same each time. Their full court pressure could cause us some serious issues.

See yall in a few hours!! GMG

This Memphis squad could pose problems in every major conference in the country. I honestly think they could contend in every P4 conference in hoops. Will be an excellent chance to see just how close or far away we are from being nationally relevant in terms of ability. This Memphis squad unlike previous ones seems to want to find a better shot than just ISO ball and get mine. That is dangerous especially when they are more athletic than every player we have outside of maybe Lorrient. I also really hope we come up with some sort of press break before we show up Sunday. If not this one will be over quick.

Looks like a late departure for TX State
-
Wonder if we weren't playing his Dad's team if he would have played in the Bowl Game 👀
-
Softens the blow of Mercer departing.

As far as I understand it, paid by the game, but receive travel, lodging, food $ etc.

Going through the list this morning the following Transfer Portal entries for TX State are still playing. I don't know their team well enough to know the other list who was a starter etc other than RB, and OT for sure. Starters: Terry Webb DT Tavian Coleman NT Backups: Donte Thompson CB Langston Anderson WR

@Glory to the Green I'll go through tomorrow am and try to pair it up so we have a better idea of who is staying to play on both squads and who won't be participating. I honestly think our offense may have a chance to be more explosive without Morris at the helm. He was gimped up because our throws downfield significantly dropped after the Tulane game when he took that big shot. Tons of screens, quick game, etc. I hope they allow Mestemaker to air it out so long as he's proven to earn the trust in that. I did get a good report from a former UNT football player that his friends on the defense said the offense had been killing it in practice and Mestemaker was the least of our worries in the bowl game FWIW.

The DL losses intrigued me the most get some first downs and get some momentum tempo picks up, once them big boys are tired without many subs you are asking for a disaster. Losing their RB was huge. I think I agree with your assessment of the OL as well. Mercer was really good for us but he's still a Freshman and I doubt he moves people better than Blair.

It is a very terrible rule and too vague but it is the rule nonetheless.
