  1. Feel free to post the others but I am intrigued by the commits / signees we receive today. Once they sign they are locked in there is no waiting to see if they get to campus. It appears our coaches are having them sign once they secure the commitment. Then posting later on the UNT Football twitter page such as below. This is not the puzzle piece from today just an example of a player who is 100% a UNT Football player as of this post. EDIT: Ok I am getting antsy, So I am going to expand this to all transfer signees. GMG
  2. I think they're essentially the same, 6'2-6'4" 230-240 ish pounds who can play in space a little if needed. That is about what I'd imagine it to be. Similarly the numbers are about the same for defensive success rate at 3rd and 8 or longer.
  3. I think Hodge is 100% willing to go with his best defensive unit offense be danged than to allow a player on the court who causes even a tiny chink in the defensive armor. No source or info just the feel I've gotten watching him as he has stepped into his HC role
  4. I would imagine that against a true double tight end set or heavier formation he has the ability for that Jack to end up being an actual defensive lineman, but in today's game the need to be able to multiple based on formations, offenses etc. Jack LB's end up being the nice in between. Yeah you give up some on 3rd or 4th and short but the idea is that 1st and 2nd down you keep them in less favorable down and distances by having a more athletic guy on the field. I believe last season nationally the percentages on 3rd and 2 or less was like 68 percent conversion rate offensively. I as much as anyone want to see a defense on the field we can be proud of. Just like the HOD Bowl championship defense. The reality is though if you're living in 3rd and short as a defense you probably aren't getting very many stops.
  5. Probably a bit smaller than a true DE, but much more versatile. If teams are living in 3rd and short 2 or less. Odds are they are kicking your butt and 3rd down is the LEAST of your worries. I am attaching an antiquated number chart but I would imagine with enough digging you could find one for closer years than 2021. https://staturdays.com/2021/12/03/2021-update-third-down-conversion-rate-by-distance-to-go/
  6. Withdrew from Portal and back in for GMG
  7. 3rd and 2 with 28 seconds left, go 3 down make them run the ball because that is what the box is telling you to do. They run the ball and burn a Timeout and have 24 seconds to try and score down 2 scores and they are kicking the ball off to SHSU after halftime so if they don't get a TD they're looking at a 3 score deficit.
  8. Its 3rd and 14.... Disguise coverage make QB Squeeze the ball let pass rush get there or flush him out and let spying LB tackle for minimal gain. I don't understand how anyone is complaining about getting this DC. Even if he ran 3-3-5 (which he doesn't 2nd or 3rd and long you might see 3 DL but majority of the time it will be 4 guys coming. Who cares?? He led the #19 defense in the nation. If he just takes this defense to somewhere in the 70's ranking we would have 10 wins this year and be tickled to death. Please just enjoy something nice because if he replicates his success at SHSU he won't be at UNT long.
  9. Yeah, I don't think people realize how good of a team this winless Miss. Valley State team is. 5 Quad 1 games is crazy talk.
  10. Are you asking as scholarship offer players or walk ons?
  11. He has 1 year left to play....He will be hanging them up after next season unless he is able to land on a roster at the next level.
  12. They are all coaching in the bowl game and will then join us. Cassity is the only one I believe that has been actively working on recruiting portal etc. The rest were at Sam I believe game planning for Bowl Game. Admirable on their part as this is Sam's first ever bowl appearance.
  13. Offense deserves some heat they definitely had spurts where they were completely non existent. Defense won the final game to get us bowl eligible.
  14. Think he had coaches in his ear who are no longer employed by the schools they were at so the offers he thought were coming didn't
  15. Don't totally disagree, however that won't bode well for the HS QB's they try and recruit when they look at the last 3 starting QB's being guys they brought in via Portal while developing the youth. I really feel bad for most HS Athletes because of roster sizes and portal only the elite of the HS guys are now D1 where as in the past schools were taking guys and trying to develop them over a few years. Lots of good FBS and FCS Kids will be playing D2,D3, and NAIA ball just because everything will spill over into the next level.
  16. He only has 1 more season of eligibility left so there is no reason to think that he won't make it through bowl season.
  17. He will easily. He is an early enrollee so he will have 8 months of Collegiate workouts and eating to get him where he needs to be.
  18. Hearing it may not matter due to academics
  19. Without a doubt. Just frustrating when people seem to get so upset at the current landscape, then openly say well I'm not ___________ whatever their counter point is. Either accept that we will be 1 and done on any productive player every year or try to be part of the solution, however much you desire to be part.
  20. This as well as I believe these are operating budgets not necessarily NIL, seems to be a very misleading headline.
  21. https://247sports.com/longformarticle/college-footballs-top-50-programs-ranked-by-nil-efforts-235181311/ We can bury our heads in the sand or we can face the ever changing landscape, but getting mad at young men for taking a giant chunk of money seems like the last thing we should be doing. Yes, I contribute, no it isn't much. I hope we can one day get to where we have a chance at retaining our best players and not losing them due to $
  22. Can't due to the start of the new semester of education. The NCAA needs to look at pushing that date back for all colleges, adding a 2 week portal window. The problem is, there is another portal window in March. It is one giant mess and I am not sure there is a good fix.
  23. You drop down, your best players will still get plucked year after year. They can provide the funds you can not.
