MGB: Full UNT men's basketball schedule
GMG24 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I agree that it is not a fair comparison but for a totally different reason, name the last non power conference or at worst non recognizable team who won a major bowl. I would say Boise before they blew up, but even then people knew who they were. In basketball you can build some substantial programs and have great teams that can compete with (almost excluding Kentucky) anyone on the court any given night. In football it is just not possible. That is one reason I am slightly more ok with the amount of lower teams scheduled in BBALL, most of the time, the opponent is actually a quality-ish opponent. In football however as we saw, playing a Nichols state helps us in no way other than notching a win, which I am also ok with. Would I prefer we bring in some more name recognizable teams and playing a good game/see a good product in the field you are darn right I would. The quicker you slay the giant in college football, the quicker you get people's attention that your program is here. Don't believe me check the Utah types, boise, western Michigan, on and on. Again, I don't have a problem with a Nichols state type if we 1. Have 6 home games every year, and 2. Are attempting to bring in some name recognizable teams in. You want to see recruits heads turn, bring in a team they know and kick the dog out of them. At some point you can't keep feeding kids the same story line, you have to show you can do it. On on a separate note, Tennessee has 2 freshman DTs, our interior OL better eat their wheaties before we go up there. I will have to find the videos I saw of them dominating their OL in 1 on 1s -

no, I would rather win games, and lots of them in BBALL, than have 5 home games 1 vs an fcs team, and not have a winning record. If we were winning and going bowling year in year out like JJ was doing with tournaments I'd still have something to gripe about but not near what I have now. :-) come on you know this. -
MGB breaking news -- Florida linebacker enrolls at UNT
GMG24 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
If he's got an coverage skills at all, love to see him slid into the spun down run force safety.... His tackling needs to improve, while he can knock the dog out of kids smaller than him and he definitely plays mean he will have to work on wrapping up and running his feet at college level. I wish more teams taught kids how to tackle like the Seahawks, very safe, very effective way to tackle. They stole it from the rugby teams across the globe. Very cool stuff. -

The difference was JJ groups won those, TB not so much -
No because I don't get angry. I just try to understand people's points, then when I can't we can go back and forth about it. I am just not sure how raising the student fees to simply match or maybe even beat a few competitor schools would be a bad thing for the university. You are talking like it is the end all be all to students getting their bank broke. Decent argument at private schools or Harvard, Yale etc. UNT is already a great education for a fairly inexepnsive price comparable to other universities.
-
you make 0 sense. Zip zero zilch. So you say I as a person who already donates, should be forced to match raised student fees?? What school do you really support? Never seen in the history of college athletics seen a student fee correlate to a raise in donor members giving. But keep being delusional, that's worked real well for you huh?
-
thought you weren't coming back. LIAR!
-
yeah... And feeling bad for a college student isn't?? Give me a break. You on the same fence that says screw the athlete and cost of attendance too?? The argument for raising student fees has ZERO to do with my giving level, and where my current income level dictates what I give. Raising the student fee by 20 bucks raises our schools tuition by x amount 300 bucks a semester you say. You telling me the grant/scholarship/loan money out there won't see the rise in cost and the students situation to dictate what financial assistance they need? Be serious. Also, I would LOVE for the university paper to ask the students vote on raising student fees to be able to bump our facilities etc for student athletes and what percentage would be in favor of approximately 300 per semester, ASSUMING they take 15 hours. Seriously, anyone got a connection at the Daily?? As much buy in as the previous 3 freshman classes have had, I would be willing to bet a pretty penny Mac has won over that vote by a landslide.
-
um...Student fees went up when I attended, I had 0 problem with it, college athletics is a HUGE part of the college experience even for "normal" students, they want to be able to go enjoy a good tailgate, game, and game day experience even at little ole UNT.

still quitting on his summer workout open to everyone... The only dude that walked damn near the entire run.

Billy, check my post in Vito's about FNL camp. From what I was told they liked the RB, and CB, even the young QB even though he is not going to be tall enough for Dan. The kid can straight sling it.
-
Good piece Vito, there were several Colony kids out including our '18 quarterback. Kid can sling it. Khalil told me that he and Anthony Hines got into it a little bit in some one on ones. He also said there were a ton of kids, and a ton of really talented kids. He told me the entire UNT staff was the most energetic of the camps he has been to and was really impressed. I really hope we offer, I think they were close with Bryan Hammond a few years back until Bryan hurt his knee his SR year. Oh well I'm a homer for TC kids. I think we had a corner Kyle Covington 6'3" 175-180 go, the QB, and another WR Chris Green 6'3" kid. Hoping they all impressed. Be fun to see kids I coached on the North Texas field playing on Saturdays.

great post harry. Can't wait to meet you friend

Let me educate you. If the season is 10 games as you stated, and you play in 10 that is 100%. Now, if the season was 30 games, and said player plays in 10 of them that would be 33.3 % even by your logic they still couldn't play. Unless of of course you are talking about post season play counting towards that 30%, which I logically can't see the NCAA allowing that, bc well let's see here. Kentucky plays in conference final and final 4 every year, so they play somewhere around 38 games they play in 11.4 games. That seems unfair to the team playing 30 games and their kid gets 9 games. Which by the way is .3 multiplied by 30 equals 9 games. Anywho, just wanted to help a fellow alum out.
-
I am sure they're doing some big reveal at Friday night lights and wanted to keep majority of pictures off the web. Just a guess/hope, you know like TCU did you have to grab ahold of stuff that works, especially when what you are doing isn't/doesn't work... Find someone successful and copy them.

GMG24 replied to CoachClayborne's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I Know Damarcus participated all summer in workouts but man... Dear sweet football baby Jesus please don't let this person be Damarcus. PLEASE, it is all I have to hang onto for the 2015 season. -
Nice. Dude, y'all re watch that and check out the dude who BLOWS a guy up on Kidsy's return. Wow. I re watched that part a few times.
-
I stayed up all night waiting and it's still not up. Ok I lied, but I was looking forward to it this am, but nooooo lol
-
lol 4 players.. I don't mind putting a list together off the top of my head Sed HATED them, Dillman favorited minor did too, I can keep looking and compile. The kids seemed embarrassed of them, except of course the ones asked to showcase them. Hell even Josh Greer favorited a tweet in despise of new unis Add ced Fernandes to that list, jalen Montgomery, josh cousins, I'm sure I can find more. The unis aren't cool. It's ok to admit that
-
dude, the players hate them. Enough said. They suck!
