MGB: UNT lands highly rated Texas player
GMG24 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
as well as the 6'10 bean pole we picked up as a walk on from Prosper. -
yeah those 7th graders tally double digit offers from most major programs in the country. The kid has talent, he needs to be coached. He was being recruited to replace teddy bridgewater, let that sink in.
-
They did not put many backups in on Defense until very late in the game.
-
That did happen, but he under threw it allowing the chasing LB to get a hand on it causing it to deflect off WR hands. The thing I want to see D. Smith improve on game to game is taking care of the ball while running. I have no complaints on throws as the errors he made were 100 % technical and due to him being amped up. I agree if he plays early and gets reps from day 1 we win at least 2 games. I saw once for sure that Carlos Harris had to tell D. Smith what the play was towards the end of the game. I quit watching the defense and only fast forwarded to the offensive possessions. I will re watch tomorrow AM, BUT my team had a HS game last night so I didnt get home till 10:30 and tried to watch what I could. I do like what I saw from the offense, and would like to see Chris Miles either get better in a hurry, or be replaced several times his end went right by him and was chasing D. Smith before he could even set his feet.

these guys were cover corners in HS, getting used to college game takes time and reps. I'd rather have corners who can cover than corners who can tackle, obviously combo is nice too
-
he and Brooks should be in press man all game. Quit leaving them 8-10 yards off
-
I can guarantee you they prepared for D. Smith knowing if Mcnulty trots out there the game is over before it starts. Just a hunch on my part.
-
I heard it to say a total ban until after the game today so they would be focused.
-
I honestly don't care other than it shows complete defiance and disrespect. Sed Ellis tweeted something along the lines of glad he didn't have to worry about debt when he graduates with a big smiley face ( During Canales ban on social media) in rebuttal to a student talking crap about their performance last Saturday. This has spun out of control fast. We need help in a bad way.

MGB: UNT lands highly rated Texas player

I am not sure that I'd agree, his classes have been comparable to JJ's only difference is he either runs them off or they don't make it to campus. I suppose I see your point though. -

That has 0 effect on his coaching ability. There will be no ride except the same one McCarney got after game 5. -

He should not have this year, he is what he is, a great recruiter and a TERRIBLE HC. -
Yes, apple meet tree.

I wish we could keep Benford the Recruiter, and fire Benford the Coach. -

you know what our combine stats were under him? He didn't pump anyone up to any size ever. Check stats. Dodge never had a bump his last classes were better than the first. Even with his Juco binge. You sir are blind. -
haha oh no not at all, a position coach at best, at worst a recruiting coordinator
-
You realize most major programs hire away head coaches from successful big schools, in order to attempt to steal recruits away and get them committed right? You think SMU brought Mathis in for any other reason? They want an easy in to Desoto. Same for Tech with the hiring of the Skyline coach. It is a common practice and if it works out the guy never has to coach a position, helps recruit and thats it. If he ends up being a decent coach then you got a good coach, an in for recruiting and possible pipeline to a great program. If it doesn't work, you get rid of the position coach. Simple solution, with a possible HUGE upside. What do you think about it?

You are amazing..... Those players led our 2013 team to a bowl win, remove those guys and we have another McCarney type 3-4 win season. You wanna take Macs big rough and tough recruits and I'll take those two dodge classes and we can see who wins? Please be serious, I understand you aren't happy but The 2009 and 2010 classes were pretty solid classes (2010 only HS obviously) I really was interested to see what Dodge did in 2010, but losing 17 starters in 4 games (again thanks RV's schedule) we had no chance. -

Check out his 2009/2010 classes. Pretty easy to see why we were successful that year. -

Umm... 2013 was his last recruits, which was quite awhile after he was fired so it definitely wasn't his first class. This place is NOT hard to recruit to, McCarney misspoke. It is hard to recruit kids to play in an offense that is stuck in the Pre-Forward pass time of the sport of football. Kids all run spread stuff and mostly tempo at the HS level, who would want to come here and block for 50 plays a game and maybe have a chance at 20-25 passes a game?? That means they may have 3-5 targets MAYBE. No kid who is worth their weight in salt, (unless unrecruited) would want to do that. That is a fact of life. We could easily have done what Auburn has done offensively still a Power run team but do it out of pistol or gun. It is not different at all but it allows you to do it out of 4 WR essentially clearing the box. Heck, I am a MS coach and every team we play now is spread. It is difficult to defend, and easy to coach. -
MGB: Sounds like Smith is going to get his shot

Unfortunately I have a HS football game to be at Thursday evening, but I am recording the game and will be watching. Sorry I can't make it out and GMG

yes do you know who Scott Cross is!? He was interested and never got an interview.

there's a ton of smart people in the coaching wolrd who know if they turn us around, they get a biiiiiiiig pay raise and go P5. Every coach that I run into asks how we haven't been successful and mention our incredible stadium and how nice it is. It's time we wake this sleeping giant up.
