MGB: Breaking news -- Calvin Minor arrested
GMG24 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Usually depends on the players. It's suppose to be random but when I had a friend playing it was "randomly" the walk on players the coaches knew weren't smoking -
No doubt, however Littrell and company will win and I think they'll win quickly. Yes the program is in a terrible position, yes people say whatever about the coaching staffs. I was here for the McCarney hiring and I wasn't a huge fan. I enjoyed the bowl run but didn't really believe in what we were doing offensively or defensively. Littrell and company are something like 12-14 scholarship players short because of the previous regimes Mis-management of the roster. I disagree. TCU has kept Patterson around for ages, and that job was previously seen in the same light if I'm not mistaken. Patterson took over before a bowl game in 2000 and never looked back. Granted they had some success just prior to Patterson taking over but they were not some power to be reckoned with.

Yikes... Not a good situation there Mr. Withers! Bad move!

MGB: Kirby taking leave of absence, UNT trying Buyers at WR
GMG24 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I think this has more to do with how many WR they want to be able to contribute vs what they have. Buyers is athletic enough to make a catch put some wiggle on and get 5-6 yards after the catch. Everything I have heard he is the most football savy guy on the team. They want 8-10 WR who will play on game days, in this system and the amount of running they'll do they will need some depth. -
You'll see pressure from every side. It will be gap sound but pressure will be coming. I know this staff will get it turned around. Just hope we can hold onto them long enough $ wise to keep them here for an extended period of time.

MGB: NCAA shuts down satellite camps, thoughts on impact for UNT
GMG24 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
It may be bad for kid, but it will be good for us IMO. Perry is relentless in East Texas and it will give us a chance at least until the rule is modified to dominate out there. -

No invite huh? Lol I wish I could go to scrimmage. I've got a golf tournament though.

This. SMU has had close to 500 kids each camp they've hosted on campus. We will be just fine. -
I have coached a few kids who just can't run 40's for whatever reason, but when they get between those lines and the lights come on they look like they run a 4.4. Truly an amazing thing to see.

Regarding threads for players we aren't recruiting
GMG24 replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Keep that boy way from Waco... Hopefully the UNT offers start pouring out in droves for the DL prospects. Lord knows we need em. -
Duncanville he tried to transfer from Desoto to Duncanville this past school year. He was ruled ineligible by the DEC for transferring for athletic purposes. He will be playing this year at Duncanville. Those highlights are from 2014.

Was offered yesterday by us. Currently holds offers from North Texas, Texas State, and shows a Tech offer but I would assume thats as a Corner or Slot. S SPARQ verified 5'9" 200 lbs Runs a 4.72 40 yard dash http://247sports.com/Player/Jaylin-Nelson-36016 http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3890202/jaylin-nelson

Jareid Combs isn't far off. Also Calvin Minor in the OLB roll at 6'3" 213 is a really nice size for that roll. Could he use another 10-15 lbs? Sure, but when I watch that nickel/ bandit player go through drills he ALWAYS stands out as the most explosive. Looks like he, Preston, schilleci, and a few others are working out there.
-
Good points, however I was merely speaking to his coaching ability not necessarily the other. I do see your points, I just think if he proves he can win big time again that someone may take a chance on him.
-
if Gillespie has another successful season he won't be coming to UNT.
-
I think our new OL coach is to thank for that. He really gives it to Murray in practice making each step be perfect before moving to the next rep. They know how huge he will be for the program.

Also an excellent program that produces big $ donors if they come back. -

Being a Teacher/Coach I do think continuing to target that group of our student population is important however, I think there are better ways to improve overall vision of the university. Promoting the business school seems to be most logical choice, but I don't know much about that school. -
We have had 9 or so name changes in school history, but you would think our higher ups would do everything they could to get that ntsu deal squashed and promote our actual name.

We were first. Kid will probably end up with 12-20 offers. -
DRC: UNT looking for return men heading into scrimmage
GMG24 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Wedge is now illegal and can only have a 2 man team that can not link up to form a "wedge" however, I would be willing to be anyone who has any wiggle at all along with break away speed will be given a long look by the new staff. I really think Littrell doesn't care how big they are as long as they can make plays. Edit: I think he was getting reps with 2's during a Periscope video I saw unless I am mistaken. -
Hollis decided to re-classify and go to API this upcoming school year.
