  1. I dislike that idea on the basis that I have also really cherished UNT’s culture of accessibility and inclusiveness, and that seems to fly in the face of both. I doubt there is a huge overlap in people that would be upset that they had to sit in the wing or the away side because they aren’t MGSF, but I bet there would be some, and principle matters. The world is full of enough colleges where you have to be part of a special club to get access to stuff.
  2. That’s awesome. I’ll have to check that out. Tomorrow they’re honoring UNT’s Emergency Management Alums on the field and we all can also access the Alumni Pavillion if we didn’t already.
  3. In general, the lack of serious marching is my biggest peeve about our band. Like, watching our band come on to the field vs watching the A&M Corps of Cadets come out. Whole different experience. I love our kids, but we’re generally known as a music school, and our marching band doesn’t march.
  4. Are the home teams wrong/reversed?
  5. “A much more hostile environment in Death Valley.” That’s probably true. Death Valley is a pretty harsh place to play. But mean, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m prepared to yell all game, in a very hostile manner. 😁
  6. Yeah, I already thought about that. But good awareness on your part, sir.
  7. You guys are brattier than I remember y’all being the last time I was on this board (2014) right before I moved away. 😄 Was it Portland State? Did my years of exile in Amarillo and Kansas City spare the horror of the Portland State loss that broke everyone’s soul?
  8. I mean, I’m married, I have a good social life, I host D&D campaigns, I go to the gym every day, pretty good at my job. Not sharing this one activity you like doesn’t make me some kind of neckbeard troll lurking in my darkened computer room. Now, if any decent artists wanted to draw the above mentioned troglodyte scene, I’m definitely willing to make it my profile pic. Just sayin.
  9. Baseball: Generally boring, but can be fun enough in person with the right people. Apple Pie: Great, but no better or worse than many other good types of pie. I’m just just saying that hanging out at my house, watching other College Football or playing video games followed by leaving about an hour before kickoff (to park and walk to the stadium) seems like a much preferable Saturday to me than loitering in a parking lot with meat.
  10. I am a blast at parties. Air conditioned parties with a reasonable amount of people who know the appropriate amount of booze they should drink. Blame it on the Marines. I liked outside and people before they got their hands on me.
  11. The statue is a good idea, but I. Hate. Tailgating. Not to besmirch anyone who loves it, but I’ve never gotten the appeal. Maybe if I lived in Iowa where it’s been cool since late August I’d feel differently, but pretty high on my list of hated things is: 1. Lots of drunk people. 2. Being hot. 3. Being outside. I’ll get over all those things for “watching Football”, but I won’t for “watching Barbecue.” 🤪
  12. That’s true. I’m thinking “need a good football game” but obviously someone who isn’t super into Football might note care. Atmosphere and crowd might be more important. I don’t know who my friend feels about tailgating, but I rarely do it, and if so, it’s in the last month of Football. Tailgating is a mixture of “standing around being hot” and “being outside” which are two things I usually try to keep to a minimum. 😆
  13. Friends, I have a coworker who is a fellow UNT alum, but really isn’t into Football. Not just UNT Football, but College Football in general. Still, I think I convinced him to come to a game, hoping that with a little exposure, I can turn a not fan into, at the very least, a lukewarm fan. Which of the remaining home games do you guys recommend? Obviously, the top contenders are LaTech and FAU. FAU is my top choice, but I’d hate to bring someone I want to root for UNT to a game that ends up like our last two contests against them. Will the excitement and/or the crowd be better for one? Am I sleeping on the excitement of the other two home games? Love to hear your thoughts!
  14. Glad I’m not the only one that’s thought that.
  15. I definitely wouldn’t want #hit12. It is pretty crazy to think about how we are already halfway to #hit6. 😁
  16. Absolutely true. I think about my first year at UNT in 2008 (1-11) and all of this feels kinda hard to process. Maybe it shouldn’t, it’s been a decade, but it does. There were only 124ish teams back then, but we might have been dead last.
  17. After being super pinned in last year at Iowa, my wife isn’t too big on sitting low/close to the field. So, we’re sitting in 523. 😁
  18. Has anyone gone to a Arkansas game as a opponent’s fan before? My little sister went to their stadium as an A&M fan (obviously this was before that series went to Cowboys Stadium) and there was pretty bad harassment, including people throwing beer at them. Granted, I’m not claiming that this is a typical Arkansas experience, but I’d like to know if anyone else has had a similar story.
  19. Side Note to that Side Note: The shenanigans of the UNT student section are a source of frequent criticism by me when I’m at the games, so I’ll agree with you in that regard, and in the sense that Incarnate Word is a small school, but aren’t we a few centuries too far into the post-enlightenment period to be giving schools extra sympathy because they are “Catholic” or “religious?” I mean, come on, we’re less than a month away from the (again) reveal that there is systemic criminal acts going on within the Catholic Church, but we’re somehow supposed to act like they’re a morally superior opponent we have to be nice to? Religious schools have been flaunting their supposed moral superiority in College Football for years (Catholics vs Convicts, anyone?). I’d prefer our student section to not be such jerks, but I’m not going to require them to pay additional respect that the opponent doesn’t deserve on account of them being a religious school. I’d argue the same with the Fightin Falwells of Liberty when they show up here next year.
  20. So, I definitely said that I'd kill off my D&D character in protest if UNT lost this game. Poor Jaco. I'm open to anyone's suggestions of appropriately ridiculous ways to go, given how terrible this loss was......
  21. It's true, obviously, I personally have too much to live for, but if PSU wins this game, I'm considering intentionally killing off my Dungeons and Dragons character in protest.....
  22. What scares me the most about PSU is that if we lose, it continues the trend of my teams never being able to beat my wife's teams.
  23. I do like the running and video game ideas. That being said, I don't fire up sports games to help myself cope with my teams losing. It's more like..."Man, now I'm sad. Guess I'll go hit a dragon with a sword." Also, this feels like it makes me a bad fan, but having a certain amount of redundancy in my sports fandom helps too. I mean, yeah, I've got UNT, which doing terribly, and the Cowboys, who are disappointing me, but having degrees from multiple schools means I have Texas A&M, who is undefeated, and Angelo State, who is #6 in Division 2 Football. I mean, it doesn't make my primary teams any better, but it's nice to have something to fall back on....
  24. I live just a little too far away and had a few too many expenses to make it all the way to Denton for the game this week. Nevertheless, I'll be watching on ESPN3, and me and my friend are wearing UNT shirts to our Warhammer match earlier Saturday!
  25. Well, having degrees from both UNT and A&M, I think it's going to be fun to see both my teams play, even if the one I like more has little chance in winning. Good excuse to hang out with my Aggie little sister, too.
