  1. I dont get why UNT has such a hard time scheduling the OOC portion of the schedule. The last few seasons UNT has been a solid Q2 team and at times even a Q1, playing a good game at UNT would benefit just about any D1 team in the NET rankings. So I dont buy the theory that schools are scared to play in Denton.
  2. Conference champions will automatically qualify for the field of 64, so its not like the WAC's champions will be out. The additional 4 teams will be those bubble team that currently miss a bid, and they will not go straight to the tournament instead they will go to a play-in. Using the NET's formula, it is very fair in determining which teams should have a shot.
  3. I dont necessarily see it like that. It's true the tournament is a massive money generator, however just about everyone has a shot at getting in with their conference tournament. And while college basketball has its blue bloods, the talk of the tournament every year are about upsets and Cinderella runs. I dont think adding 4 teams to a play-in help benefit high majors over anyone else, its going to benefit those schools that barely miss the cut under the current format.
  4. send all automatic qualifiers straight to the field of 64 Then let those last 8 schools (bubble schools) fight it out in a play in. these games would actually be fun to watch, because in theory they should be teams ranked next to each other in the NET.
  5. If they stick to the NET formula, then let the bubble teams fight it out in the play ins. Conference champions, even the small ones deserve to go straight to the field of 64.
  6. It was a good venue, but the location is terrible for the conference. I think Memphis or Nashville would be more central, and cities that are interesting to visit for a weekend. New Orleans would be cool, but the tournament would be very close to mardi gras.
  7. Baseball would make sense, baseball is still very popular in this region of the country. UNT already has a hockey team but its not NCAA, they play in TCHC, they do fill up the arenas and the games are fun to watch, it would be nice if the university supported them a little better.
  8. Its in Queens, not Manhattan! I briefly looked at SJU when looking for grad schools, its a very unique university, its not for every student and that includes athletes. I dont know if they have the easiest time recruiting, sure its NYC, but there are plenty of quality programs near NYC. They do have Pitino, but how long is he sticking around?
  9. I usually have more respect for Texas Monthly's BBQ rankings, as I am a huge BBQ fan, but some of these locations are quite a ways from their schools. I have not heard of Interstellar, and was in Austin last weekend (went to Franklin's).
  10. The Ivy league is higher on that list then the MWC, what is the MWC doing right??
  11. Its not personal its business... The players are no longer playing for an education, they are playing for money. With that mentality its almost a requirement for players to dip into the portal, this how it works in the professional world.
  12. Those top HS recruits are not planning to play college ball for 4 years, they want to be in a top program where they noticed and can go play pro ball. most of those players are coming from top HS programs, that are coached as well as some college programs. there are also a lot of talented HS players, that have not had the benefit of playing under quality coaches. those players may take some time to come around to the college game. I dont see UNT being able to attract those players right out of high school at the moment. however a lot of those players become available later down the road as transfers.
  13. Ross did well in the portal after taking over, now that he has a year of experience I think he has a better understanding of which moves to make.
  14. Very talented player, but for what ever reason the chemistry was not there. The team seemed to be lacking that one player that glued everyone together, but you will not have one of those every year.
  15. Kind of a no brainer if you ask me, he's coming off 20 wins, he knows the conference and recruiting at this level.
  16. year 2 will be interesting, players move around a lot now. I think with every class you need to find at least 1 big. UNT has also had good luck recruiting at the juco level.
  17. I didnt expect SMU to keep their coach going into the ACC, they spent a ton of money to get into that conference, why wouldnt they spend the money on a competitive coach that can recruit a new crop of players with their NIL money.
  18. I have a feeling this could turn into another Pac12 debacle... Notre Dame might decide they would rather not be left out of a super conference and join the Big10. The Big12 will emerge as the next best thing to the Super conferences, and will probably attract interest from Virginia and Georgia Tech. At which point Cal and Stanford might decide its not worth it to remain in the ACC, and try and build something out of the old Pac12 along with the MWC.
  19. true, there will be multiple suits, but once the 2 super conferences are set there will be no going back. It will not matter what they have to pay in legal fees and penalties, being in the top conference will be worth it.
  20. I think its safe to say they will both be in the SEC, and that deal would be way more lucrative then what they are earning in the ACC, and ultimately worth the exit fee. The ACC media deal becomes an option for ESPN after 2027, and with out the heavy weights, ESPN may not want to pick up that deal.
  21. Clemson and FSU have an argument, they are essentially carrying this conference. But I think the message it sends to the rest of the conference is that they can do this the easy way or the hard way. Both schools have the means to leave if they really want to, but this can get nasty and have a drastic financial impact on the remaining programs.
  22. I give this season a B- the defensive side of the ball was good. However the offensive side seemed confused more often then not with what to do. At times they were very sloppy in bounding the ball and moving the ball out of the back court under a heavy press. The did recruit well, finding a lot of good role players, but a primary ball handler never emerged that could take advantage of those players.
  23. Those 3 schools combined will not generate the revenue that FSU or Clemson bring on their own. And if those top schools leave for the Big 10 or SEC, then would the ACC still be a "power conference" worthy of 2 playoff spots?
  24. Honestly I was expecting the university to cover all costs... its not like they need to make money off this, they have busses and drivers, not to mention its good optics for the university to have large student crowd at the games.
