How many wins triggers Seth extension?
MrAlien replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Football
I dont think its a question of wins, I believe it depends on if there is a better coaching option available. Would only winning 4-5 games warrant the AD sending this program into a complete rebuild with a new coach, especially heading into a new conference? -
If they are going to make a coaching change then they need to be interviewing coaches now, players are already entering the portal, and UNT needs to take full advantage of recruiting. Personally I do not see a realistic better coaching option out there at this time, and I do not think the school is in a position to wait until spring to see who becomes available.

would he still be eligible for the season?

what makes the Super Pit outdated? I have always like the design, its simple, easy to get in and out of, and not a bad seat in the arena. Its also steps away from many of the dorms.
-
This is why when it comes to joining the AAC I am way more excited about basketball. I just hope we can get a decent OOC home schedule next year.
-
Next season with AAC teams visiting the Super PIt, I think 5500 might be possible.

North Texas finishes the year with a winning record

We can not assume that the next coach will be any better, until we hear the AD come out and state that the university will seek out and hire an established coach that can improve the program.- 40 replies

Littrell might not be a great coach but hes not terrible either... I do not understand why so many people are ready to fire him with out knowing who the next coach will be, or even what direction the AD would like to pursue in the search for one.- 40 replies

The team along with the coach are good enough to finish in the top half of the AAC. I also expect playing in the AAC will help with recruiting and transfers.

Minimum number of wins for consideration
MrAlien replied to Green Otaku's topic in Mean Green Football
No need to fire him mid season, but you can let him know that he is not coming back, and begin looking for a replacement. The foundation needs to be in place for next season the day after the current season is over, because thats when transfers and recruits really start paying attention. -

Everyone seems ready to fire this guy with out knowing who's next... do y'all really want roll the dice on another first time head coach, one with out any college recruiting experience? How many current players would you expect to stick around for that? not to mention the fact that they would probably wait until spring to put a coaching staff together leaving them way behind in recruiting and transfers. -

if he is 3-3 on Sunday, then I think he gets an extension. Thats the midway point of the season, the 3 losses would have been to schools that were expected to beat UNT. I dont think you can wait until the end of the season to determine that you need a new head coach for next season.- 88 replies

What makes you think the university will actually go out and established head coach? I am all for a coaching change if its for a better coach, but not if its just another first time head coach trying to prove himself.
-
Any reputable coach is going to want to bring in his own staff of assistant coaches, so you have to commit to spending some serious cash. Lets be honest, UNT is not high on anyone's list of coaching jobs, so I would expect them to have to overpay to lure an established coaching staff here.
-
I am not in favor of firing him, because I do not believe there is a realistic better option out there for a head coach. The university will not commit to spending the necessary funds to bring in a good coach. more then likely they would hire a coach just like SL, and probably will not be any cheaper. I dont hate the play calling, it might be a little more aggressive then some of the players can manage at times, but fortune favors the bold.

What would everyone like to see Wern do? There is no indication that the University is prepared to spend what it takes to bring in a better coaching staff.
-
Is there actually a better coaching option out there for UNT? SL might not be great, but he is not terrible either, the program could do worse.
-
I predicted 3 wins before the season, now I am thinking 4-5
-
whats the alternative? I want to know that Wern will bring in a legitimate coach, someone who will have this team fighting for a conference championship, and can convince high level recruits to come to UNT. I do not want another "prove it" coach I want to see them bring in someone who has established himself in this profession.
-
I dont think UNT is willing to commit what it takes to lure a coach like Patterson.
-
Fire SL, then what??? Whats the alternative? Is the university willing to spend what it will take to bring in a new coaching staff, one that will turn this program around, and compete for a conference championship? Doubt it... The reality is the school will hire another mediocre coach, the team will be somewhere around .500, still loose to smu, and we will all be right back here demanding they fire the coach.
-
Is the university really willing to pay what it will take to get some of these coaches? not to mention most of these guys will want to bring in their own staffs, and they are not cheap either.

Game Day Experiences - Lack of details and Ownership
MrAlien replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
its been the same issues for many years now... Parking, tickets, gift shop, concessions, and even the alumni pavilion its all poorly planned and executed. These are the continuing issues that prevent many of the DFW alumni from attending games.
