  1. Rice is a private school and checks a lot of boxes for other schools that want to be associated with it. If they were to commit to improving their athletics, something they could easily do as a private institution, they would be very attractive . When to comes to Football or Basketball, at the G5 level I think a strong basketball program can carry more weight then football. Even the top G5 football programs barely get any attention nationally, yet there are plenty of G5 Basketball programs with national attention.
  2. I doubt UNT would be able to follow any schools east. Tulane and USF are probably the next to go into what ever happens in the ACC, and I could see Rice going too. I think Memphis would love to go east, but I have a feeling those other schools might be a little snobby when it comes to Memphis, same can be said for UNT. Moving to the Pac12 would not be ideal in a region sense, however in terms of competition it would be a good fit for schools like Memphis, UNT, and maybe Wichita. What would be the alternative if the AAC falls apart?
  3. The MWC schools are locked into their conference, I dont see a way to merge with any of them. Tulane is one of those schools that is probably more interested in what happens with the ACC. Memphis is thinking basketball first, that conference wouldnt do it for them.
  4. Problem is no one has actually purposed a viable plan to address these problems, and I think thats because the schools at the top really dont want them to. Those super schools do not want to be regulated, and they are going to do what ever it takes to drag this out as long as possible.
  5. The smaller schools is what makes the Tournament good, thats is why so many people tune in that first weekend to see the upsets, more people watch the first 2 rounds then do the final. If they actually followed the NET rankings there may actually be less P4 schools.
  6. Tulane, USF, and even UTSA were mentioned to be in talks to join the PAC12. I get the feeling some schools in the AAC are waiting to see what happens with the Clemson/ FSU lawsuit with ACC, that conference could become desperate for new members.
  7. Dont worry about the old Pac12, worry about the new one. Just look at who they are adding: Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, and Gonzaga in basketball. I'm a little surprised they did not get UNLV (yet), but thats still a good athletic conference, and if they poach Memphis then why stay in the AAC?
  8. blowing out a Q3 team should not matter that much, the predicted metrics had us winning by over 10 anyway. For a top 75 school to move up 10 spots at this point in the season usually takes something significant. Usually other schools need to drop down (Dayton did), also McNeese and has been looking good lately, that could also help.
  9. I wouldn't call it dead, its not what it was. However they are building a solid G6 level conference, and if they are able to lure a school like Memphis then I think UNT would have to go too. Then Texas State could take our place.
  10. Good dominating win, honestly I expected a little more from Rice, but it was an excellent way to rebound from the Memphis loss. Also UNT went from 70 to 60 in the NET, thats a huge jump at this point in the season, and I can't figure out why a Q3 win at home cause that.
  11. I dont see the NCAA giving up control, this is their biggest cash cow, its very successful, its the greatest tournament in American sports. I think this is more of a tactic, there has been talk of expanding the tournament and other changes, I think the Power 4 want to make sure they have a big seat at the table when those discussions take place. The NCAA has a bit ore pull when it comes to basketball and the tournament, then they do with football. The NCAA has a TV deal through 2032, and I just dont see the power 4 being willing to walk away from that anytime soon.
  12. Is UTSA really a rival? They are sitting at 280 in the NET right now, and they dont really have the athletic infrastructure. UAB has probably been our better rival in recent history, had some really good games in both football and basketball.
  13. Texas State does not make sense with UTSA being so close. If they are looking to just add a school it would probably be JMU, WKU, or Liberty. That said, I still feel that not everyone in the AAC is happy to be here, and I think there could be some movement.
  14. What do the TV deals look like for each conference? Did the Pac12 ever get one? I Know MWC had a TX deal with FOX, but with all the movement is the deal still in place? The Pac12 probably came out better, but they are no longer a power conference. The MWC was a strong G5 conference, now average at best, but I do think given the circumstances they added the right schools. The winners in all this are the schools that left the Pac12 What does this mean for the AAC? The AAC could become the top G6 conference, if al the schools pull their weight.
  15. earlier in the season there were more AAC schools on that list.
  16. Will Memphis run the table in conference play and go undefeated? They have to play Wichita and UAB twice, those are probably their hardest remaining regular season games. If they do that they they are probably looking at a 5 seed in the Tournament.
  17. Great game, Memphis is a good team and this one came down to the end. However I am still baffled by UNT's inability to inbound the ball, this is a trend that has been going on for a few seasons now. There were several times today that they would inbound the ball directly into a corner trap, many of those instances resulted into a turn over.
  18. Its different now with the NIL and transfer rules, unless a team is in the playoff, the season is over when the portal opens. All of these bowl games are meaningless now (outside the playoffs), they start off each bowl game talking about how many players left, these are not even the same teams that played in the season. This is why I would rather a head coach spend December focused on recruiting players from the portal then preparing for a bowl game.
  19. Its an exhibition game, a consolation, it doesn't count for anything. I think its better to have our program and coaches spend December focused on building a team and staff for the fall rather then a meaningless bowl game.
  20. Its an algorithm based on team efficiency over value of opponents. It is not really a power ranking, its more of a fluid formula that takes the entire season to reveal itself (it makes more sense in late February then early December). It would be interesting to see a tournament bracket based on NET rankings vs one based on committee seed rankings.
  21. His first season was a throw away season, he came in late with virtually no recruiting and no help from the portal. He came in to 24 with a full year of recruiting, and had quite a few successes in the portal on the offensive side of the ball, but struggled on the defensive side. Heading into 25 things are looking promising, I think the new DC has been able to draw some players in.
  22. A bit sloppy on defense, but every time coach gets to them on a time out they do seem to respond. Better passing around the perimeter when they have the ball, but too often it seems like they settle to let one guy do all the work.
  23. The offense is concerning, at times they even look confused.
  24. I really think Hodge just got out coached, the transition defense was weak, once UNTs established their structure they were good, but high point was push the pace enough that UNT could not establish its perimeter defense. On the offensive side of the ball, UNT didnt move the ball around enough, HP used a classic triangle defense allowing anyone driving the ball in to be trapped. Also, UNT had some stupid fouls, you cant run an 8 man rotation if you cant play disciplined.
  25. I dont necessarily like it, but I dont hate it either... I like that they are going with the 3-4, but can he recruit? Drawing up the Xs and Os is one thing, but finding players that can execute the plays in another. Missed tackles has been the story of the defense the last two seasons, we need to bring in guys that can tackle.
