I get your point of course . But the current system still sucks. I practically grew up on the SMU campus and played a lot at old Ownby, but I’m a die hard UNT fan. The problem for me now is that the school doesn’t matter anymore . It’s just about who spends the most money. And that’s ok, it’s the American way. I miss the days of Dandy Don playing in University Park and Mean Joe kicking butt in old Fouts…and I think the hot dogs and beer were better then too ! So yeah, I get your point.

Right. It does suck for Army . QUESTION: Do the academies have portal bailouts the way the other schools do? My guess is not so much (?) due to their future career connections. Since the vast majority of players in most colleges will never make an NFL check it appears that most just want to chase a little fast cash while they still have a couple of football years left in their futures.

Ho hum third tier opponents don’t attract fans to Denton. Been that way for years. People in the Metroplex will come to see name brand opponents, it’s been proven. We don’t get them and when we get them we usually blow it.

Didn’t show up. We noticed early on that it looked like Tulsa was going to have more students in the stand than NT.

My two cents : the DJ music was tooo loud and non stop. I get the need for up tempo sound but it’s hard to stay connected to the game when the PA system blasts away continuously. The announcers for the little in-game side bar activities really don’t need to yell into their mics so hard. We can hear you. Love the Green. 2 and 0 baby.

Harry, thank you for this explanation. Although a lifelong Mean Green fan , as well as college sports in general, the NIL and revolving door portal thoroughly confuses and frustrates me. Your brief explanation of the two “collectives” gives me a better understanding of the efforts being taken to support the programs. It appears to me that the Mean Green Collective (MGC) works best for someone like me who wants to see 100% of the investment go to achieving the goal as opposed to someone skimming 20% off the top for “ administrative cost.” Thanks for the explanation.

Unfortunately this comment by the head coach at UNT is going to appear defeatist and will do nothing to motivate students, fans or players. Wish it had been some other school’s head coach. Awful publicity for UNT.

I was kind of hoping this HSO thread would help me get over the hump and renew the two season tickets I’ve had since the days of dirt at Fouts Field and the old cement urinals there.
