Why Do We Struggle With Recruiting?
Caw Caw replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Would be nervous that offer wouldn't be good come post-season if it came. No idea who's going to be there. Makes me nervous all of these SEC openings. -
Why Do We Struggle With Recruiting?
Caw Caw replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
This is over simplification. Gage decommitted before the season really even started and damn near right after he committed. Vada King has gotten... half a dozen or more offers since committing, and taken a visit to Ol' Miss. Just because we have one winning season, doesn't make us a winner. We have a long tradition lacking in stable, consistent success. Yes we've had a turnaround season but that still doesn't make us P5, or hell, that still doesn't make us Boise. Got to trust the staff has a plan and is going to do their job. They have so far. Rome wasn't built in a day and it certainly wasn't rebuilt in a day after being burned to the ground by Portland St. -
https://m.hudl.com/profile/5339107/quindarrius-whitley It looks like when his teammate Vada King de-committed this offer went out. I think he would have two years to play. 6'"2, 210 Holds offers from Cincinnati and Northwestern that i've found so far. Finished on his all-conference 2nd team. Vada finished as an honorable mention. NO. UNT Freshman Redshirt list best as I can tell
Caw Caw replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
To me, I think the plan when Bryce got hurt was to get Tony K. some time and keep Novil's shirt. When we took another couple injuries to the D-line, including Tony K, I'm not sure they had a choice. Isn't there some sort of "you only played x minutes" so you're still allowed to red shirt? -
Commits: Week 12 Playoffs First Round

Yeah and the kid spouts green on his social media. Spoon had a similar thing last year. I expect it to stick. -

I know it required surgery, crutches etc. Somewhere between meniscus and acl... gut says ACL but no confirmation. -

Jordan Redfearn's season is over as well as he had a season ending knee injury a few weeks ago. -
I've heard from some good people that the younger Mose and Brammer are going to be monsters. The fact that we've kept their RS is an incredible statement about the development capabilities of this staff.

I've been watching a lot of the highlights and replays of games this season and two guys I think have been huge for the offense but don't get very much credit are O'keeron Rutherford and Kelvin Smith. Rutherford doesn't show up too much on the stat sheet because of the bounty of talented receivers we, but he is in on quite a few snaps to block. He's a big bodied receiver and he really lays it out there on the snaps I see him on. If you watch a lot of big run highlights you'll see him out there. The same with Kelvin Smith. Kelvin Smith may be one of the most complete tight ends in this league. I wish we'd use him more in the pass, but I think Darden replaces him in certain sets. If you follow his motions and his blocks he's incredibly powerful and incredibly consistent in picking up his assignments. You can often find him down field picking up a couple of extra blocks too. His role has been so important to our success on the ground. Anyway, just thought i'd mention a couple guys who aren't our limelight guys, but take out a lot of trash in the offense.

There's a chance this staff takes two again...

I have no dog in this fight. I just think it's funny the old folk call the younger folk snowflakes. Seems like #OldDenton is the sensitive ones and can't take a joke. If it was an honest mistake, the ignorance is funny. If it was to poke at George it's still funny. Who cares?

I wonder if he's getting any other looks. I watched his film, and honestly don't think it matters. He has real speed. He doesn't dance and gets up field. Even with that, he's pretty patient and has good vision. Would love to see the mismatch he could create with a linebacker on a wheel route.

Austin Ogunmakin talks about committing to UNT
Caw Caw replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I feel good about LeBlanc's kid and Vada King. (Worried about keeping King for sure). -

My guess is this that this is the commitment coming this week that someone was talking about. -
No? If you aren't a top 50 programs you will almost always struggle with attendance. The sports market is so saturated by teams, some of which people grew up on. G5 times have big boosts when ranked or at least consistent contenders for conference championships. And even then, it isn't going to be sell out crowds. Just look at Sunbelt, MWC, MAC and CUSA attendance. It ain't just us. In fact, even in that, we're upper middle class at the moment.

Under Seth Littrell, UNT is now 6-1 in one score games

I agree, but 80 Schollies at UNT doesn't mean 80 guys you want on the field for more than a couple snaps. -

I've said it a million times. This teams weakness is depth. We have the players but not enough that we can trust so our guys don't get so burnt out. -
Being that I have zero offers, can I be considered a sleeper?

'18 Safety Reggie Williams, Grand Prairie

Please note the ? in my post. -
The problem in inconsistency and mid-game struggles are almost certainly due to a lack of depth in my opinion. This team has performed very well and played at a high-level, then the fatigue sets in, especially in positions we lack star power and depth overall, like at linebacker and on the O-line. Defensive line is suffering from missing some guys, but if healthy, are pretty deep. I don't think it's a play problem as much as a depth problem. Obviously still young team-type of mistakes. Which is fine, as i've mentioned some other places, I think long term, keeping as many red-shirts on as possible is the path to this program taking the next step. As Mason alluded to, we've been better than the teams we've played in our close wins, and we've learned to win ugly. The next logical step is to learn to put these games to bed. Having a competitive team beyond the two-deep isn't something Litrell inherited and are working to create. If our twos/threes were better than they are currently, we would have beaten Iowa.
