I don't think it's a lucky flash, but I wouldn't read too much into it. Football is played one week at a time. Definitely surprised me though.

UTSA played pretty well but lost with some seriously costly turnovers. Good opening for CUSA. What do you think can be seen from our conference-mates in these games? Close game with a top 25 is a pretty good start for a loss.

Also consider John Williams bought SMU tickets and included them in his young alumni, Eastside Social Club ticket package. That could honestly account for the large allotment purchased at once. My second year buying my tickets that way and it's a better deal than anything UNT has ever offered. They should honestly hire him to do their marketing. He sells out fast.

Would be crazy to see both undrafted lineman make it on the same roster. I would be thoroughly surprised. Akkune has had a good camp. Orr is a staple on special teams and working his way to the defense.

Jdennis, I think you have an interesting point. If you look at it from a profit/risk ratio. As success rises so does the appetite for risk. You're hedging your bets really. I agree UNT image is boyscout-ish (especially under McCarney). It's great to not have to worry about your teams athletics or off the field habits. We have an institution that prides itself on developing people, not just their talents. I'm grateful to be a part of that, but I, like Tyler find myself interested in big program kids with more minor offenses from the Dallas area who are getting sent back home. The prospect of 4-5 star talent is awesome, almost mythical to our program. I'd be lying if I i'm not at least curious. And of course I'm not jumping the gun saying throwing our morality out the window will all the sudden sky-rocket us to the top five. It was just a bench mark to compare programs. It's less vague than, would you trade trouble for success.

We all envy the rise of teams like TCU, Baylor and A&M. I for one would be glad to be presented on anywhere near the same footing as them. I am not disillusioned enough to think that we are. With that being said, do you think that success comes at the cost of turning a blnder eye as far as grades and criminal activity goes? All of those schools have seen a fairly large increase in serious criminal issues, and a history of looking the other way to let players do so. Is it just me or do the two seem to come together? I am aware that we have had Joseph Randle level bookings recently, but A&M had 7 in 2014, including an assault charge, Baylor has had it's knowing recruitment of a sexual predator who repeated the offenses he was booted from Boise for, and the TCU coke ring among other smaller activities. Is success tied to a cover-up mentality? Does allowing these things give you better recruiting options? How far would you want UNT to go to achieve success? Would a Baylor level scandal be worth a top 5 CFB spot to you?

I wish I still had the recording... I covered men's basketball his first season here for the NT Daily. There was a quote in there from my first interview with him ever telling me about how he wanted to get tougher non-con schedules, like the one we had that year, so that we'd get noticed more on the national level. What a great sound bite that would be right now. -
While I appreciate the spirited dialect, this game we all love called college football is about one thing: THE MIGHTY DOLLAR. While i really do appreciate the enthusiasm and the lashing out at the only other die-hards our small, but fiercely loyal, fan base has until any of you are willing to take your hard earned dollars to a value i'm going to assume most here don't make, then we won't be some college powerhouse buying out coaching contracts early or ousting a complacent AD. We all buy tickets to the games and we all love to watch and speculate this game and our team. You're not better fan because you get more butt hurt and yell louder. Want more? Buy more. Athletic Department Money goes into one thing at North Texas at the moment and that's facilities. From athletic to academic, that's what this administration is focused on spending and developing. new stadium, new union, new Business Building, new dorms. At some point you have to realize magic wishing and spouting off about complacency aren't catalyst for change, unless you're willing to back those big f'n mouths of yours with equally big checkbooks. And as we know by our donation numbers, ya aint.

http://basketball.latinbasket.com/team/Puerto-Rico/Atleticos_de_San_German/1957?Page=3 PPG: 10 RPG: 7.1 Shooting %: 57% on the floor, 34% from three. He's at about... 27 minutes per game. And tack on 2.0 blocks per game and 1.5 assists. His team is 16-16, good for middle of the pack in this particular Puerto Rican league. One of the other guys he is on the team with played with Middle Tennessee. The starting point guard raymond citron.

MGB: UNT women add yet another transfer
Caw Caw replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
The immediate thoughts for me in a football comparison are Trice, Anthony Wallace, Reggie Pegram situations. Highly rated contributors from P5 schools people were/are thrilled to have. They are better gambles on average then JUCO A or JUCO B. I would say the rate of success in filling a need is higher, no? I understand the HUGE numerical discrepancy, but it's the philosophical piece that needs some work in all of our sports. -

I don't know how anyone has any complaints. She's taking P5 Talent FROM THE AREA and bringing them back home. If this was happening in football people would be spouting out the ass how happy they are. We'll see what she can do with the little she has. Why wouldn't you invest in the future? At least she has learned that it's a building process and that it's about long-term success not pleasing everybody and doing it now. -
MGB: UNT women add another transfer Terriell Bradley
Caw Caw replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I don't think anyone is expecting great things out the gate, but there is clearly a new excitement an energy around the program. If you want results next year you're probably still expecting them to pay out the rest of Benford's contract. And i do think there will be growing pains and dealing with a "bare cupboard". But i would gladly take delayed success over continued stagnation in any UNT sport. Edit: GrandGreen didn't want you to think this was directed directly at you, just wanted to continue the dialogue. -

Yeah, I honestly think this is the coaching direction as well. Young, up-and-coming talent who have their best days ahead of them. We are already gambling on the "seasoned" coaches we are willing to pay for anyway, why not try and bring some new blood and energy? They are hungry and have something to prove for them to move to bigger things. This is not the case with a lot of seasoned coaches on the tail end of their careers they seem complacent. Of course the energy is there at first but once they realize the talent North Texas presents they are just trying to pass the bar of job security. -

I feel like Jaley is doing what every coach should be in finding talent... Have these gets not seemed really big to anyone else? -
Honestly, guys like Akunne, Orr, Lemon and maybe even Chancellor shouldn't be getting combine snubbed. There are guys from much smaller schools with worse stats and similar measurable. I really wish there was some consistency to the system of invitation.
