Not sure if our offer still stands, but he has been offered by Trinity Valley and Navarro JC. I'm not sure how this works in college but if he's struggling to qualify would we recommend that he goes to a JC we have a good relationship with? -
6"2, 200lb OLB/S. On Scout he holds a UNT offer, doesn't on 247. Holds offers from SMU, T-State, Kansas and Toledo. Not sure when this offer happened or how good the info is. http://www.scout.com/player/205750-odessa-thurman/recruiting?year=2016&s=353 http://247sports.com/Player/Odessa-Thurman-82810 http://www.hudl.com/profile/4530211/odessa-thurman

Bell is 6"3, 189 lbs. He decommitted from Navy in November. Scout.com says we offered and his interest at Medium for UNT. 247 doesn't show an offer from us. Had something crazy like 2,000 yards receiving, don't quote me on that but I remember it in my browsing. http://247sports.com/Player/Judah-Bell-81072 http://www.scout.com/player/199186-judah-bell?s=353 http://www.hudl.com/profile/3615272/judah-bell

2017: More Than Competitive At Iowa
Caw Caw replied to MeanGreenMailbox aka TFLF's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
"The NDSU Bison are the only FCS program to ever be ranked higher #34 in the AP National Football Poll. After the 2011 Championship Game, the Bison became only the third team in FCS history to receive votes in the final AP Top 25 with 2, putting them at #32 overall (FCS Record); the others being Appalachian State who receive 5 votes after their third consecutive FCS Championship in 2007 and ended at #34 and James Madison University after their 2010 upset of then #13 Virginia Tech.[4] After the 2012 season, the Bison again broke the barrier and became the first ever FCS team to breach the poll twice by receiving 1 vote and ending at #36 in the nation. Due to the overwhelming support and attention NDSU got during this run, ESPN announced that it would host its ESPN College GameDay program in downtown Fargo on September 21, 2013. The Bison ended up beating Delaware State 51–0 later that day. The Bison finished the 2013 regular season with an undefeated 11–0 record, their first perfect season since 1990. The Bison became the first FCS team to ever finish the regular season ranked on the AP Poll at #34 with 1 vote. After a perfect season (15–0) and winning their third consecutive championship game. After the 2013 season, the Bison were ranked #29 in the National Division I AP Poll, tallying a massive 17 votes, far beyond what any other FCS team had ever received. After defeating Iowa in 2016 the bison were ranked 27th in the AP Poll with 74 votes, the highest ranking of any team in FCS history. Here's the details of the original offense: http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/alabama-crimson-tide-florida-state-seminoles-deandre-johnson-dismissed-022416 Clearly Kiffin is familiar because they gave him a look under Saban. My instinct would be that Saban said no and Kiffin really liked the kid.

While it's heavily weighted because of a couple of YUGE lists. It comes out to 4.84 offer per first team conference player. 8 of 25 are single offer guys (32%). Which is high, but likely because of conference. ALSO important, C-USA is a coach driven conference selection if I'm not mistaken, so a lot of these choices could be questioned when looking at the stats/film/production of other players in the conference. The best players at North Texas and recent all-conference selections like Orr, Trice, etc held multiple FBS offers as well. I would be curious to see the math on the rest of the years as well. Another interesting data point would be 1-offer guys per team that are signed compared to 1-offer guys that make all con. Also a comparison of conferences.

The best part of this whole thing is that it's being dubbed #WakeyLeaks

2017: More Than Competitive At Iowa
Caw Caw replied to MeanGreenMailbox aka TFLF's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
North Dakota State is a division 1 team keeping itself at FCS to win championships. They are scary good, so is their recruiting (for their level of competition). Big fish little pond. Go google there list of D1 upsets over the last few years. -
'17 ATH Tyreke Davis (Denton Ryan) [LOI: NT]
Caw Caw replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I've been following this kid a lot. I really like his body of work. As it's been mentioned, if he had been any taller he would have a huge offer list. Plays both sides of the ball and does it well on a top contender this year. Has also had a couple of injury things one held him out of last years playoff game. Great get, one of my favorite commits. -
QB Avery Davis - Dual Threat (Cedar Hill), true 4 star committed to ND RB Eno Benjamin - (Celebrity of Wylie East) - One of the best 4 stars in the state is still uncommitted Travis Ettiene - (Jennings, LA) - Not too familiar with him or this offer but true 4 star WR Tyrell Shavers - (Lewisville) - 4 star committed to Bama Tylan Wallace - (South Hills) - 4 star headed to OSU Damien Miller - (John Tyler) - 4 Star Texas Commit Omar Manning - (Lancaster) - 4 Star TCU Charleston Rambo - (Cedar Hill) - 4 Star OU commit KD Nixon - (DesotoU) - 4 Star - Colorado Mannie Netherly - (Crosby) - 4 star LSU Commit Offensive Tackle Walker Little - (Episcopal) - True Blue Chip 5 Star. Kid is 6"8 305 uncommitted but likely to Stanford or UT. Grayson Reed - (Cypress Creek) - 4 Star A&M commit Edward Ingram - (DeSotoU) - 4 Star LSU commit Defensive End DJ Johnson - (Luther Burbank - Sacramento, CA) - High 4 Star committed to Miami (FL) Lagaryonn Carson - (Liberty-Eylau) - 4 star committed to Texas Defensive Tackle Marvin Wilson - (Episcopal) - 5 star nose uncommitted but projected top contenders are Ohio State and LSU. Linebacker Anthony Hines - (Plano East) - 4 star aggie commit Santino Marchiol - (IMG Academy) - 4 star aggie commit Devodrick Johnson - (Kimball) -4 star Aggie commit Defensive Back Jamyest Williams - (Loganville, GA) - 4 star aggie commit Chevin Calloway - (Bishop Dunne) - 4 star uncommitted, projected to Arkansas These are all ofthe 4 star plus guys on 247. But that's a pretty good taste. There are some 3-star guys I like just as much but snagging any of those would have been awesome. Aiming high doesn't seem to really be an issue.

Second to North Texas, Alabama is my favorite team (I was coached by George Teague in High School). I'm glad Kiffin is gone from Bama. I expect him to do well enough at FAU to hop ship. I mean he left Tennessee for USC after one season. I'm not high on his play calling either. But I think I spelled out my concerns for kiffin in another thread for someone.

Lane Kiffin started his recruiting season with a big splash signing. This is that ethical question that arises in the cost of success. Johnson was dismissed from the Seminoles for allegedly punching a woman. I will say this is a splash signing in multiple ways and an immediate impact, highly rated C-USA signing. For all of those who think we can sit back on the recruiting field, here's another example of how the competition is heating up. Again, I do think the staff is working very hard, I'm just nervous about the results SO FAR. I will be ecstatic if my doubts are proven wrong. Anyway, full story here. https://www.seccountry.com/alabama/lane-kiffin-immediately-signs-former-fsu-qb-deandre-johnson

You want to talk good coaches who value recruiting how about Nick Saben. Here are a few excerpts from a sports illustrated article about his recruiting. Not his development, not his coaching. Alabama doesn't run crazy complex schemes. Nick Saban's empire is built on the back of great recruiting classes and beating you man-to-man for all 11 positions. To quote the man himself: “I’m nothing without my players." He told the AD at 'Bama when he was hired that no one would out recruit him. He utilizes 60+ staff members to achieve this goal. Yes some coaches can do more with less, or find guys who excel in a system. But if it was all about talent development why is there a direct connection in consecutive #1 recruiting classes and national championships? “In the NFL, you only get one first-round draft pick, and that’s if it hadn’t already been traded away,” Saban once told me. “In college, I could recruit ten players with first-round talent every year.” - Though Saban has learned something about talent evaluation at each of the 13 stops in his coaching career, much of his gift for recognizing good players is innate. “He’s like someone who can identify a thoroughbred racing horse at a young age,” says Glen Mason, Saban’s fellow assistant coach at Ohio State in the early 1980s. “He can just look at a high school player and say, ‘That guy is a winner.’ ” - In 1984, when he was the defensive coordinator at Michigan State, Saban skipped his mother-in-law’s Christmas Eve party to hang out with the grandmother of a highly touted wideout named Andre Rison. Saban drank beer with her until 3 a.m. While he didn’t earn any points from his family, Saban did land Rison, who excelled for the Spartans and, later, for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. - Saban does all he can to learn absolutely everything about a recruit. “He’s out there prodding the aunt, the uncle, the mom, the coaches, the kid himself,” says Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach Derek Dooley, who was Saban’s recruiting coordinator in Baton Rouge. Saban has secretaries who keep him updated on each individual recruit, who have been known to drill down to such granular details as a recruit’s most recent score on an English test. Gary Tranquill, Saban’s offensive coordinator at Michigan State, says that Saban was so prepared for some recruiting interviews that “he literally knew what brand of chewing gum that kid preferred.” Saban was so aggressive on the recruiting trail that, in 2008, his peers had finally had enough. That’s when they successfully lobbied the NCAA to stop recruiting in the spring—when coaches were allowed to go on the road and evaluate talent—something at which Saban excelled. The new bylaw was dubbed the “Saban Rule,” which outraged its namesake. - “The other coaches sometimes come off as used-car salesmen and Baptist ministers—he’s not like that,” says a former Crimson Tide offensive coach. “A lot of these parents aren’t making a lot of money, and they see this guy come in, just off the plane, wearing a suit, a guy with a plan. They don’t see many people like that. What they saw in him was a man who was blunt, straightforward and successful.” Alabama's staff spends more hours than any other team in the country and more money on RECRUITING. We obviously don't have those luxuries but we aren't asking for hte same result yet either. Kids can outkick their projected coverage, and that comes down to spotting/evaluating talent for specific roles on your team. BUT, that's not what we want to rely on, because it's way less likely than recruiting success to translate. I agree about the rating, we do however offer a lot of five star kids, I just don't often find it worth posting with there offer sheets the way they are. All that aside, he looks really good on film to me. Obviously I don't have a full game tape, but he plays downhill but keeps his head up. He's decent in pass coverage and has the speed to keep up with skill players. Wraps up pretty well, but still likes to hit. He should strap up his helmet a little better though lol. I would be glad to have him.

Beau/Galvin stock is through the roof at this point. I could buy McNeal to UNT, but those others are a pipe dream to me. -

I will say this. Each recruit we do have so far has a fairly competitive offer sheet. I'm looking forward @BillySee58's rating system at the end of the class. He bases it on offers.

Caw Caw replied to GMG24's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
UTSA snagged three recruits today. The other two were from Palomar JC, a tight end and a corner. They didn't have other offers from what I saw. -
I think he is a solid recruiter, but I've seen more effective offenses in pick up basketball games. Looks like 5 guys all trying to create there own shot. And that's on the good days.
