DRC: UTSA LB Tauaefa says rivalry with UNT is growing
Caw Caw replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
It's a Rivalry. Same people who say it isn't are the ones who say we should beat out x,y, and z school (who has a winning record against us and who beat us 8/10 in our meetings) for every recruit. It needs a name. It needs a trophy. It needs acceptance. And the fires need to be stoked. All storied rivalries began somewhere. We hate them and they hate us (in the most fun way). Trophy should be a birdbath. -
Can We Retire #NewDenton after this Season?
Caw Caw replied to Caw Caw's topic in Mean Green Football
I love each and every one of you trolls. I'm not employed by the university to create their marketing at this point but a few off of the top of the suggestion box: #HeadhUNTers #NorthTexasCoUNTry #GaUNTlet18 #WeFromTheNorthYeahThatWay (Popular rap reference you old folks won't get) #KingsOfTheNorth #uNORTHadox -
After the first year does #NewDenton really make sense? I mean I can buy it for the remainder of the season, but after that I feel like we need a new marketing direction for the team. I'm open to suggestions I just think it's losing its accuracy. Some other ideas for Marketing hashtags.

What would the all in cost be for two club level seats with whatever the entry level donation is for the season?

North Texas Launches Young Alumni Season-Ticket Promotion
Caw Caw replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
John Williams has been fronting the donation part and getting affordable tickets to young alumni in a sweet package deal for a few years. As long as John continues his promotion (free drink at east side, bus stop, chair backs, tickets and t-shirt) I will be supporting him. -
DRC: Report shows UNT ranked 3rd in C-USA in revenue
Caw Caw replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
It's actually people on your side of the debate who point out that spending on a coach should come with increased recruiting success. I think a coach's standard is the win column on Saturdays. There are so many factors and this oversimplification feels desperate to make a point. Fly a banner about it already. There are so many reasons other teams have recruiting success over us, this however isn't really all that relevant. I've seen some stretches on the recruiting topic, but this one is Mr. Fantastic. Things that matter more: relationships with high schools and their staffs, specific spending categories like recruiting budget/travel, conference ranking, facilities, proximity to home (As both a plus and a minus), staffs likability, salesmanship, short term and long term success of each school, head-to-head success, coaching turnover, reputation, quality of education, etc. How any of that = revenue is 3rd recruiting should be 3rd is well beyond me. -
I saw more working offense in that video than every year of Benford combined. It will be nice to have a system instead of a pick-up game offense + picks. It will be nice to make substitutions instead of shuttle times. #GMG

Here Is What Recruiting Success Would Look Like
Caw Caw replied to MeanGreenMailbox aka TFLF's topic in Mean Green Football
I would buy it a little better were we not in the information age. Even UTSA has a better heads up record than us and better season every year but 2013 when they beat us to knock us out of title contention. Sure he's selling for but be sure he's selling against. If I recruited against us I'd say... "You want to be successful, right? Good North Texas Football and tell me if that's what success looks like to you. If it is, maybe you'd be a better fit there than in our program" Ever seen kids argue these days, always settled by the iphone quick-google/wiki. -
Here Is What Recruiting Success Would Look Like

Serious question I still haven't seen answered... WHY on paper should we be beating x g5 team for recruits when almost all of them having winning records vs us among a ton of other things. Conference Championships, head-to-head, average wins per season, more nfl players over the last two decades, actual drafted players, payouts, local, etc. I understand why being in 60-80 range, but what have we done to entice someone to play for us since the dickey era? We've been a bottom dwelling g5. That isn't going to change over night. And, to get ahead of the "kids don't know enough about where they go" that might have been true in the 80s, but they can access our history in 10 minutes on their phone. -
i35 signage is the marker for tstate/utsa rivalry i was informed.

"When OLine is run blocking, they're the ones taking the initiative. They know who they're going to block, they know (usually) which hole they're creating for the RB, and they're driving forward. When the OLine is pass blocking, they are in somewhat of a read and react mode, and it's more a game of instinct, agility, and thinking quickly." This is a rundown of why I disagree with you. It's someone else's words but I think it represents my opinion. We were a good running blocking team, but we choose the point of attack, we choose the lanes, there isn't time for the defense to complicate it. We ranked 109 in rushing offense in CFB. It doesn't exactly remove the sting of being second to last in pass protection... Edit: 121 of 128 in pass protection tied with UTSA to the tune of 293 yards on 48 sacks.

Hard to be good at the receiver position at UNT last few years... Terrell would have had Guyton level expectation in this system. My breakout player of the year is a healthy Chris Miles. Post recovery I think he improves our line a good bit.

DRC: Lake Ridge QB Jason Bean commits to UNT
Caw Caw replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Not sure why you egg them on in this category. They've been crushing us in recruiting since wilson got there. I'm all for picking winnable fights, not sure this is one lol. -

DRC: Looking back at the top 10 games of the last decade

I still rank Halloween vs Rice as a pure number one for me. That stand at the goal line is something i'll never forget and never witness anything like it. -
If a recruit's name is in the thread
Caw Caw replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Is it named after me? Do I get a plaque? Jk only need the satisfaction of a job well done... -
Again, not trying to ignore. I appreciate your willingness to do so. We should set up some sort of wager on the subject. Open to suggestions.

A lot of interesting stuff here. Interested in the takes of some of the others. The correlation seems to be less meaningful outside of the top 50 classes. The assumption of the author is that the amount of info on the recruits further back tends to taper off in accuracy and quantity leading to worse results.

Can we limit the "can't recruit", "no offers" to threads other than the kids individual thread? I'm not even saying don't offer criticism (step too slow in film, great athlete in space doesn't take on the block well, good upper body mechanics needs work on foot work, etc). But we already know there's a group of people who object to the current level/method of recruiting and talent identification here. But at this point, it just bogs down the threads of kids who are happy to get an offer from us and be here. Again, there can be a place for this, but it's not constructive at this point and these players are coming here and excited to be here. It's turning into the boards new version of every thread being about RV.

Anyone interested in 2 Iowa transfers from DFW HS?
Caw Caw replied to GMG24's topic in Mean Green Football
Jerminic Smith is Darnell Smith's little brother I'm pretty sure. -
Interesting. They held his ratings in the class as long as absolutely possible. I don't know the outcome of the case, but I assume if they could have found a way to take him they would have. Just like Kiffin's first pick ups are baby briles and a Joe Mixon Style FSU transfer. These guys in the college football bigs are willing to go further and cross the line in ways Litrell doesn't seem to be. That doesn't mean we should lose them all, but we're coming to that point, with the coaches who are in the conference that people are going to go further over the line then we are. I'm comfortable with losing on those terms, but maybe some aren't.
