  1. I'm under the same impression that Martin will blue-shirt. I, like many, don't particularly care about stars. Don't get me wrong, i'd love to have a lot of them, but I gravitate towards @BillySee58 system. I know there's been a lot of ire about single offer guys but our last couple: Gibbs, Kameron King, and Vada King have all been multi-offer kids B or B+ guys in Billy's system (Vada was highly recruited out of high school and at least had an Arky State offer from juco). I hope others view this as improvement so far. If we keep this up the class oculd round out pretty well. I do also think there is a difference in pre-senior year solo offers and end of season senior year solo offers. These aren't desperate offers to fill the class, they are guys the staff wants. Hopefully our coaching, evaluation and development continue to improve.
  2. No one wants to risk the backlash if he were to get injured. A team doctor of the Ravens said he wasn't cleared, got some more opinions, etc. There is still a risk to Orr. Obviously he is a grown man and can make his own choice, and I wish him success and the best in whatever he does, but with the lawsuits for injury hitting the NFL broadly (Concussions, negligence, etc.) you can see why teams would be a little shy. If it's his desire to play I hope he gets picked up for a team I can stomach rooting for.
  3. http://www.meangreensports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/spencer_edwards_1023919.html Spencer Edwards was the Minor Leaguer that joined us last year. He was granted a medical redshirt. I do not see him on the 2017 roster, but maybe I missed him.
  4. "which fan base can get me to 1,400 [followers]"
  5. I watched the film, I liked him a little more as a back than I did as a receiver. He runs downhill, doesn't dance too much from what I saw. Seems pretty good as a single-cut back. Excelled at making 1 guy miss with his spin or a juke. Didn't shy from contact. Got low when contact was imminent. Crack blocks well, but didn't look to get his hands on another guy after he demolished the first. Route running could be polished, but honestly the QB wasn't hitting him in time, most of the time he was having to come back or move from the initial route to get the ball. Solid athlete.
  6. Are we taking a third QB, second scholarship QB in this class?
  7. We can't even welcome someone in agreement. Holy shite. Welcome to our dysfunctional little family. Austin's idea of cheering is swearing uncreatively at the other team all game spiced in with a little middle finger action. These old folks hate the ""mother f'n eagles" portion but it isn't going anywhere. Anyone sub-30 does it on the student side of the field. Everyone here means well, and all think we're smarter than we are. We all know it all but can't predict a season or a players success to save our lives. The real tradition this group has is to show up on Saturdays anyway. We show up in the heat, rain or snow. We're there in up seasons and down. Regardless of all of the know-it-all opinions and the guaranteed heartbreak, we show up because we love our school and our team. Almost everyone is an addict but everyone is nicer in real life. No one is quite so tough when out from behind the keyboard. We're die-hards and I'm glad i'm not the only bastard dumb enough to be one. Welcome aboard.
  8. I thought I was about to watch an episode of Bordain's no reservations lol
  9. Yeaaaah, but honestly that makes sense still. Sumlin has had great classes and not done all that well. Same with strong.
  10. This is a couple years old, but if gives a chart and spread sheet format of an average of 4 or 5 years recruiting rankings vs how they finished overall. Kansas finished the worst in the metric, averaging 48.9 spots below their recruiting on average. Navy outperformed its classes the best 57.6 slots better than their recruiting on average. The mean difference was 16.6 and the median was 14.8. So on average a 15 slot difference. But mathematically their is still correlation to recruiting success. Just thought it was interesting info. http://deadspin.com/chart-which-ncaa-football-teams-outplay-their-recruit-1640831522
  11. Solid answer. Appreciate the feedback. I think any success here is going to bring people after our coach. Same for Wilson and UTSA.
  12. But again, if he keeps his recruiting class but gets regularly to 8 wins. Does the class ranking matter any more i'm not saying we don't want both, but would you rather have winning recruiting classes or games won? This things are neither exclusive or completely attached. Recruiting outside of the top 35 classes is more of an art then a science like it is near the top. We have a ton of commitments right now. From kids who we offered early. If the staff didn't want them, they wouldn't have offered.
  13. So let's just say hypothetically Seth Continues to improve and his recruiting classes don't move the needle much more. Then what will you say?
  14. Well deserved, glad to see us reach across the fence on this one.
  15. Anything particular thing you see that says he won't be that good defensively?
  16. Again, I think this applies most to the "I can't believe we don't beat every sunbelt, cusa team every time for every recruit crowd mostly. And, until someone digs through the endless amounts of offers every school puts out we can track down, no one really knows the differences between the two analytics. We could say of based on an estimate that La Tech does way better than 50/50 against us if we just look at this year I can think of three or four kids we've offered they've scooped. Proximity is both a pro and a con, depending the kid. I don't present the data to say we're just falling short against some teams, or that we're over-performing against others. You actually just avoided my point entirely to make yours. My point was, again, we aren't handing out losses on or off the field to any team carte blanche with any consistency. I'd love for you to dig through all the offer sheets the last five or six years to come up with a win/loss ratio. And again, if we were to change the data to recently, say last 10 years, these percentage tank.
  17. I think all UTSA fan hope he stays off a lot of lists in the near future.
  18. I'm always a little taken back when I get the "we should beat that *insert team you view as crappy* for recruits". This inspired me to dig a little into the win-loss records on the field. Eventually I'll hopefully dig through the offer lists of kids we went head to head for and see if the data compares well, currently, I'm too busy for that. We are currently 49-56-3 vs our current conference mates. The only winning records are UTEP and MTSU. We currently have ties with La Tech and WKU. Several others, like USM, are decided by a game. Also, I understand that this isn't the only factor in recruiting battles. Facilities, Proximity to home, Staff, Media/NFL attention, Championship potential (conference and greater), pure salesmanship, etc. This is just some statistical information to the discussion. My argument here is really that there isn't a school we should beat, hands down, every time in a recruiting battle. Football teams are a lot like clothes to recruits, one size doesn't fit all and even if it fits they just may not be your style. Even the periods of conference dominance don't last for decades, no team in our conference, and maybe even in G5 has a dynastic period of dominance. This is a shortcoming compared to the 'Bamas of the world, but it allows for a lot greater parody throughout the G5 landscape. I've included some of our other recruiting rivals or schools i've seen us go head-to-head with a lot. C-USA WEST La Tech: 50% win rate (Dropped four of the last five. Our lead was built in the late 70s) UTSA: 25% win rate (One in four) UTEP: 63% win rate (Dropped 3 straight) Rice: 42% win rate USM: 45% win rate (we're only one loss behind after last year, it's like that with a few teams) UAB: 0% win rate (0-2 all-time vs the Blazers) C-USA East WKU - 50% win rate (all tied up) ODU: Never Played MTSU: 53% win rate (Another Sun Belt Alumn, the only active conference we have a winning record over by the way) FIU: 38% win rate (we won the last won, but dropped the previous 5) Charlotte: Never Played FAU: 40% win rate (we're streaking with 4 straight at the moment) Marshall: 33% (first win last year) Other Common Recruiting Opponents Arky St: 36% win rate ULM: 45% win rate (ULM dominated the Belt on our way out including beating us the last seven straight) Houston: 50% win rate (four game losing streak from 1980-2012 our last match up) SMU: 15% win rate (not pretty at all) Texas Tech: 50% win rate (tied at four games a piece, they won the most recent two) Tulsa: 29% win rate (We did win our last meeting, however they won the ten previous) DISCLAMER: I AM ALSO NOT SAYING THIS MEANS WE SHOULD NEVER BEAT THEM AT RECRUITING JUST A FRAME OF REFERENCE FOR SOME CONTEXT TO OUR ONGOING RECRUITING DISCUSSION. I BELIEVE THE LAST DECADE ACTUALLY MEANS MORE THAN ALL-TIME, ALMOST ALL OF THOSE MATCH-UPS LOOK WORSE FOR US WITHIN THAT SCOPE.
  19. At least one other in conference recruiting win over UTEP according to coach. Even better.
  20. Once bitten, twice shy Harry.
  21. I saw a lot of Benford practices in my time at UNT. This is not what they looked like and not how the players were coached. I'm finally starting to let a little excitement creep in about Mean Green Basketball.
  22. We should be getting one more surprise, right? Based on available scholarships?
  23. If it came off like I did, I didn't mean to have any sort of negative connotation. My grandpa was a five tour vietnam paratrooper. My dad was a 20-year air force guy. It's an entirely different life choice. The thing about playing football at a service academy is their is a whole life both during and after school your committing to. No judgement from me and glad to have him.
