Let's Rehash the Recruiting Conversation
Caw Caw replied to Caw Caw's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
While I do understand your outlook and philosophy, and do find it to be a sound goal, do you not think some coaching staffs and systems can do more with less? Obviously the apex is to have both, I would love to see some of the better recruiting battles be won at LB, DE, Nose and O-line, but those are the toughest to recruit across the G5 landscape all the way around. -
Let's Rehash the Recruiting Conversation

I've said for a long time. In g5 ball, development can overtake recruiting challenges. Sub-4 star, there is no magical formula, guys don't get as many scouts or writers looking at them every game and watching their every move. A lot of that means 3 star and down it's about evaluation, system and development. -
I was watching the highlights (the CUSA version that shows both teams), Jordan Murray was doing well enough against Davenport that they flipped him to hte other side fairly early. He had more success against Mayfield. Jordan Murray, and the left side in general, had a pretty good game. And, on the final drive, with huge blitzes our line did enough. It wasn't perfect or pretty but they aren't getting much credit.

They stayed professional, but you can tell this win was special. Watch them try and hide those grins from time to time as they come up. Also wanted to point out that from left to right it's like the three type of players to interview: Guyton - Loves it, Fine - Part of my job, Bussey - When's this thing over. It's like a sliding scale and got a good kick out of it.

Does the outcome and development of single offer/lowly recruited guys and their contributions under Litrell change your attitudes about the recruiting job they are doing? 2016: Khairi MUhammad - No other offers Mason Fine - No other offers Eji Ejiya - Single FBS Offer Dee Baulkman - No Other Offers Josh Wheeler - No Other Offers Michael Lawrence - Walk-On 2017: Evan Johnson - No Other Offers Kemon Hall - No Other Offers Saia Mose - No Other offers - Let me get this out of the way first, I would LOVE to win more recruiting battles. Now, I've only covered guys who made it to campus and are already contributors. I've long advocated that Seth & Co recruit culture and system as well as talent. For that very reason, I don't think we take Antonio Gage even if he did climb back on board. We're at the point where the staff is offering guys early, some of them have been committed before getting any more offers. Some have blown up and been snatched by P5, and of course we've lost some to competitors. That being said, our development and coaching staff seem to be able to get the most out of players. Do you trust this staff on the recruiting side to get guys that work for them, or is it still an utter disappointment for you? I'll also mention, this 2017 Class has a lot of red-shirting going on, and Litrell is already on record that several of the Class' lineman could have contributed this year, but they thought the redshirt year was more important. I don't think Litrell's freshman class can be understated in value to this point. Anyway, just wanted to see if any minds had changed as the season had progressed.

When do we start pulling all the "fine isn't the answer" quotes out of people's post history and laying them out to bare?

Incentive for Stef cobb? Would be a fun package deal. Edit: Just saw 2019, still a good move.

Thoughts from the fightin' 2-pieces and a biscuit
Caw Caw replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
They throw out a ton of troll accusations, do they not recognize their own fan base? I for one only serve crow to those who've earned it. Everyone else I try and thank for coming out and hope to see them next time. Why is it always the fan bases that dish it out that can't take it? Can't take a joke, but they can sure take that L and hold it for awhile. -
Yeah, I enjoy a little trash talk, and I think people were hesitant to engage in it as much this year because for once the game has big implications lol.
-
What's the measurables on that Mora kid? I like the way he plays. His position is identical to our H. Blocks with effort and has a second gear for his size.
-
From my understanding, team leadership council gets to pick their own combo. Take it up with them.
-
Clemson's offense has been garbage without Watson. It's like when Auburn lost Cam Newton. Didn't think they'd lose to the Orangemen, but i thought they'd lose.
-
Didn't we have an avi switch contest with them a few years ago? Any of them have the stones for it this year?
-
Can you imagine if we would have landed McNeal AND Guyton... sheesh.
-
I think most of the scores are composite. There is a chance someone/some site hadn't ranked him previously before got added and lowered the average.

If we play Army 4 times in 2 years, i'll probably skip it.

'18 QB Jason Bean (Mansfield Lake Ridge)
Caw Caw replied to GMG24's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I'm just going to say that I trust the evaluation of these coaches at QB more than previous staffs. -
If you haven’t read this thread, please do...
Caw Caw replied to cdizzle86's topic in Mean Green Football
I rarely make predictions or talk **** pre-game because I know the inconsistent nature of G5 football. But if you were arrogant and obnoxious, I'm going to serve you your crow in the post game. -
I feel like this should really be a "where the Mason Fine haters at now" thread.
-
Law and Kelvin Smith too fam. Wilson catches passes too btw.
-
We should be facing some new coaches at two Texas schools next year, maybe three if Wilson's season goes as well as people seem to think.

Wonder? I think, as I always have, you have to assume. A lot of the sports writer on twitter have expressed the sporting company sponsored 7 on 7 is where a lot of this type of thing happens in football. Bagmen and money to high school players is a real and integral part of the college recruiting process. The surprise to me here, and it shouldn't have been, is how corporate the whole thing is.
