You've gone full UNT90 now. My apologies, I was under the impression you actually wanted to have a normal discussion.
-
I'm not saying your improvements didn't help your cause. I'm saying they were minimal compared to how much DFW did. You think you wouldve been considered that first time without the market? You think CUSA wouldve been impressed enough by your facilities to invite you this time if you where in the middle of nowhere? Facilities can be built (which UTSA and other new members are doing), markets can't.
-
The rest of you answer me this: What do all the new members have in common? Facilities for all the new schools ranged from nonexistent to very good. Age of the programs ranged from 2-100+ years. There's one thing that we all share and it's what drives this thing.
-
Feel free to enlighten me then. I've answered it. We piggybacked on the SA market just like you piggybacked on the DFW market.
-
That had more to do with C-USA deeming SMU the better option for the DFW area. You know that but obviously your AD couldnt say it so the blame had to be put on something else. Like I said your shiny facilities couldnt have hurt your cause but they wouldnt have made a lick of a difference if you were located in the middle of nowhere. First and foremost you got in because of DFW. Once SMU moved to the AAC you were up next to represent that market. You can be delusional and think Apogee/The Super Pit got you in if you want though.
-
I'm sure those other things were part of the presentation and couldn't have hurt your cause but look at all the schools that came into C-USA: UTSA-San Antonio UNT-DFW FAU/FIU-Miami MTSU-Nashville ODU-Norfolk Charlotte-Charlotte Markets drive this thing. Sure we piggybacked on the San Antonio market, but that can be said for pretty much every new member.
-
I think markets dictate reallignment. DFW helped UNT out, San Antonio helped us out. You also had facilities to pitch, but they play a minimal role in reallignment compared to market size imo otherwise why would we get an invite without any facilities in place. You guys had what, close to ten consecutive losing seasons heading into this one? So you didn't earn it on the field.
-
Sorry buddy but I don't feel the need to justify myself to people that have hatred as unhealthy as yours.
-
That's a new insult. Not sure why you would think I mind being told I'm a worse troll than, CK.

Exactly. Especially as a start-up still trying to build the fanbase/donors/facilities using the Dome temporarily makes too much sense. We're the primary tenant too. Facilities are being built. The team was practicing in a local high school complex owned by Northwest ISD in San Antonio for the first two years but got a new on-campus practice field at the start of this season. The plan is to give those fields to the recreation center and eventually have new practice fields at the Park West Athletics Complex though, which recently completed Phase I (soccer stadium and track stadium) and should be moving on to Phase II shortly (if it hasnt begun already). Weight room recently received an upgrade as well. We the fans may have had an easy road to get to enjoy FBS football but our players certainly didn't enjoy all the luxuries of an FBS athlete. Some pics of the new facilities/plans: https://www.utsa.edu/masterplan/pdfs/MP_Athletics.pdf

I'll be in Denton on the 23rd. Looking forward to the trip.

Actually it had more to do with the fact they wanted an actual basketball arena, not a football stadium. The Dome wasn't built for basketball. Have yall been to the Dome? It's a 23 year old facility that was built for the NFL. It's no longer up to NFL standards but it's still more than just a big indoor stadium. It's still in very good shape, no complaints from me about it. Now of course if given the choice I'd take a nice on-campus stadium over it but because of the gameday experience that comes with it not because I would think it would be nicer or be worth anywhere near what the Alamodome is. That's why I said I'll concede location (on-campus) and the fact that UNT actually owns it but if we're simply comparing the stadiums alone the Dome wins. It attracts bowls/events Apogee can't.

Should've taken us 30 years to earn a seat at the table? You wish it was 70? We should travel well, from my understanding UTSA has already sold out it's allotment. RowdyTalk already bought out section 204 on the home side as well. Should be plenty of alumni in DFW too. And I'll take original, dark meat, please. Fair enough. The game itself, I think UNT should and likely will be favored but I wouldn't expect it to be lopsided one way or the other. You beat Rice and feel like you should've beat Tulane. We beat Tulane and feel like we should've beat Rice. Turnover could be the key...we struggled to force them early in the season (only 2 in the first seven games) but have forced 10 in the past three games. Soza has also done a better job of limiting TOs, had 9 INTs through the first seven games and none since. I know your defense is pretty tough though so we'll see if he can keep it going. Defensively we're pretty stout against the run but can struggle against the pass. Hoping Thompson can revert back to the form he showed his first three years, atleast for this game haha. I've explained in the past that I was talking strictly about the product we put out on the field. You have more tradition, accomplishments, facilities, alumni, etc by the simple fact that you've been doing this longer than we have. Why would I even argue any of that? My actual point is that none of that separates you from UTSA out on the field at this level since you're new to it too (C-USA). It has the potential to, since it affects recruiting, but over the past two years UTSA has recruited as good if not better than UNT so I don't really think that applies here. We're 4-2 in conference, you're 5-1...I'm not seeing the UNT superiority.
-
Agree with most of your post but still not seeing the superiority thing. You seem like a pretty reasonable guy so I'm asking in a respectful way--elaborate on how exactly UNT is clearly superior? Especially if UTSA wins on 11/23. The way I see it is, we are in the same conference and recruit the same level of players. You have more history and tradition no doubt, but you're still in the same place as us. The fact that you took longer to reach this point shouldn't and doesn't make you the better program imo. You won't find a single post of mine that claims UTSA is on another level than UNT. Most of us know what we are and where we stand in the college football landscape. I do think we are both in a better conference than the Sunbelt though (despite recent down years from C-USA) which is why I don't think those Belt titles are all that. They're something to be proud of and enjoy sure, but not something that matters in this conference or puts you above conference mates.
-
You have a lot more tradition and a lot more history at lower levels/Sunbelt than us, no argument here. I respect that and have no problem with a UNT fan being proud about those accomplishments. He didnt use those accomplishments as a reason for why he's proud of the UNT program like you just did though, he tried to use them as a way to claim superiority over UTSA.
-
Feel free to explain how being older automatically makes you better.
-
You have more history by the simple fact that you've been around longer, so does New Mexico State or Idaho .All your little Sunbelt/FCS conference titles earned you is a seat at the same table as UTSA. So yes as far as the product both schools put out on the field you are on the same level. Older does not make you better. UCF football has proven to be better than tons of older programs, including UNT--not that we're at UCF's level but just using them to prove a point.
-
We were up on Rice getting the ball back and muffed a punt inside our own 10. Also had two missed FGs. Believe we had more yds, first downs and dominated TOP. They're a good team but transitive property is never a good way to predict outcomes. We beat Tulane and yall didn't afterall. UNT is good, so is UTSA--should be a good game.
-
What is the guy supposed to say, that it's not a nice stadium? It's an $80 million stadium, very nice but nothing out of this world.
-
Are yall really getting upset cause he said Apogee shouldnt be compared to the Taj Mahal? lol yall are way too sensitive
-
lol
-
The post was about attendance. You guys are way too sensitive when it comes to your little Taj Mahal.
-
Lol at having a d-ck measuring contest with a 3 year old. "Hey look, we have 58 wins against teams with winning records to your 1, who cares if we've played more." The UNT fanbase is a sad sad group tbh.
-
In your little mind, maybe. I'll give you location (on-campus) and the fact that it's UNT's...but if you're simply comparing the stadium then no sorry the Dome trumps your Taj Mahal.
