  1. NIU losing, which opened up an extra at large spot, made getting a B1G team in HOD very unlikely.
  2. I think the private schools are all at risk in this new football driven D1 sports landscape. It is impossible for them to draw the amount of statewide/national following that the leagues are looking for. I would not be surprised to see them look at dropping down in football at some point and trying to focus on olympic sports. The have poured a shit ton of money down the hole chasing the glory years. They have been priveliged their whole existence. They have no idea what schools like Houston went through. Houston is similar to us, starting with basically nothing and working their way up. They were fortunate to actually make it into the club for a while before getting kicked out. They have no issue trying to work their way back up, but SMU does the only thing they know how, which is to throw money at it. Eventually theyhave to make a business decision. We just need to keep taking care of our own business. I like where we are currently at, and think there will be more options available within the next 10 years, if we can stay the course.
  3. By demanding it out of his AD, or else...
  4. It definitely appeared that there was shrinkage today with the privates.
  5. Hey, I can see Emmit.
  6. Marshall's defense is suspect at best. If Rice is going to be able to run option, and throw, Marshall will be in trouble. Rice's defense is not bad. Let's go hooters!
  7. SMU will have a huge advantage in this game over UCF because SMU is used to playing in front of this size crowd. UCF will be lucky to win.
  8. The only way I see this thing turning around is someone like Tasty offering Benford a Rick Majerus monogrammed towel. http://deadspin.com/5439875/ahole-coach-digest-special-rick-majerus-edition What say you Tasty? Will you help save UNT basketball?
  9. If Rice is smart, and they are, I have no doubt their preference is to play Navy in Ft. Worth if they happen to lose the championship game. Navy is a very attractive matchup and one which either of us would be competitive with. With the B1G likely out of the picture in the HOD, the other options are are a little more of a crapshoot. The HOD may end up with a team with less name appeal, but lots of talent, which is not as good for the oppoenent (us). Assuming the pirate is still running a wild ass circus that tortures secondaries, coupled with low interest in these parts, Wazzou is not a very desirable opponent IMO.
  10. More smoke to the Hawaii bowl chatter. http://m.hawaiinewsnow.com/#!/newsDetail/24150027
  11. Wow, it looks like Vito is taking a shot at some of our posters with the following quote: "If you don’t like Dan McCarney, there is probably something functionally wrong with you as a human being."
  12. I have seen some chatter out of the Middle Tennessee folks that their beat reporter is reporting that ESPN has been working to put together a Boise St/Notre Dame matchup in the Hawaii bowl. This could be what RV was referring to about a team trying to flex its muscles. This could be the cause of having to try and scramble and get a team in the Armed Forces (and why ESPN would try to help it happen), and would make sense why RV is 99.9% sure we will play in the DFW. Sadly, it would contradict the grassy knoll theory.
  13. About that time, if I remember correctly, he was mentioning how the loser of the championship game is normally given their choice of where to go. Could he have been talking about Rice? Possibly trying to flex muscle and say it wants to go to HOD? Maybe saying if they lose then they want HOD? Something completely different and involving another team/bowl that only has indirect/trickle down impact? He did not elaborate further so we can only speculate.
  14. I am on board with 2-3 years and if we can bump to $650k-$700K would be great. Need to show recruits that we are convinced Dan is the man.
  15. RV, note to self...people with the name Tony are not good for you.
  16. Why do you mention if we win the bowl we will get a million in revenue? Not sure it works the way you are thinking, or maybe the way I am thinking.
  17. So we are too good to schedule a series against a team like Texas State, but we should expect AQ teams to form a line to get to play us? That makes sense. Hey, I am all for a H/H series with a non top 25 AQ team like some of those mentioned if we can get it. We have a long term series with an AAC school on the books and a mid term series with Army. Add a series with an MWC school, maybe a MAC school, and fill in with a wildcard in years when we can't get the desired AQ school. The wildcard could involve other schools from AAC, MWC, MAC, or maybe SBC, or Southland/TBC school. TFLF, why were you only showing 3 OOC games in your examples, or did I misread your post?
  18. Well, after most scores anyway...
  19. Possible Q's since most of the bowl related questions probably can't be answered just yet: Obviously the landscape has changed over the last few years, but what are the biggest obstacles you face when trying to schedule home/home with schools from AQ conferences? It is easy to imagine the upper echelon will always be difficult for a non AQ to schedule at home, but the average fan assumes we can snap our fingers and schedule home/home with the other lower to mid tier AQ's. We have seen UTSA go the route of 2 for 1 agreements to get some AQ schools to play in San Antonio. What are your thoughts on 2 for 1 agreements versus a paycheck game on the road and a buy game at home? On the surface it seems like the move to CUSA is already paying dividends. In terms of football, what type of a jump in season ticket sales from 2012 to to 2013 did we see? What type of percentage increase would be a fair goal for next year? What type of number of total season tickets is a reasonable goal for next year? Based on all the factors that play into it, do you see us moving away from the paycheck game and replacing it with 4 home/home series? If so, do you feel that any AQ schools will be involved? What are your thoughts on conference realignment this offseason? Do you think there will be any activity? Do you feel like 14 is the right number for CUSA, or would you rather see a smaller (12) or larger (16) number of schools? What types of thoughts come into play when looking at scheduling another D1 Texas school to a home/home series, such as Texas St? On one hand, they compete with us for recruits, but on the other it would provide another game against regional competition that might help drive increased attendance/interest. What are the pros/cons when trying to decide on setting up a series with someone like a Texas State from another non AQ conference? We get a lot of chatter on the board about our current published OOC schedule for 2015. Other than adding a 4th opponent to the schedule, which will have to be at home to meet the 5 home game minumum required by the NCAA, do you anticipate any other changes that are likley to occur? Obligatory uniform talk, do we plan to wear one of our existing uniforms to the bowl game or are you thinking of changes? What type of numbers are we looking at for an indoor football practice facility? After the baseball stadium, is that the next major item? If so, do you have a goal of when you would like to have something in place? Have you had a chance to have a discussion with the new pres? Has he provided any insight on how he might impact athletics? i.e. facitlities/budget/etc...? RV, I know you or one of your peeps will read this. Notice that the concrete blocks chained to our feet topic was not brought up so quid pro quo, please address a couple of these topics in addition to the feel good topics that will be discussed.
  20. We won't play many teams that fundamentally sound the rest of the season. Like when we played Lehigh last year. You could just tell they were toying with us. Like I said, I liked the up tempo tonight. Given the alternative, I definitely prefer to see us go up and down the court. Just wish we could shoot a little better and the players would hustle back on D. With our players, we could definitely hold our on in all but a few of our remaining games. It wasn't the end of the world tonight.
  21. Like the up tempo, but got to commit on D. Lack of hustle getting back too many times. As a coach, you have to demonstrate you are in control. Have serious doubts in this department. Catch 22 is that the better the player/recruits you have, the stronger you have to be as a coach/leader to command respect. Lack of basic fundamentals on display everywhere. Used to beat teams like us in leagues for years. Oh well, at least it was entertaining...for a while. CJ is a trainwreck.
  22. I wonder if this style could have worked last year. Hmmm... Nah, probably didn't have the talent last year. Smoking SELA 45-40 was much more exciting. Glad this Denton guy is playing more up tempo.
  23. I saw Mac use this same strategy last weekend to wear out the other team's offense. Look for a blocked punt for touchdown soon.
  24. This game has a weird national championship feel to it. Kentucky vs Texas Western weird. BYU is funny. Funny peculiar.
  25. When I go that channel, all I see is a replay loop of what appears to be a violent sodomy of a football team with a cow head logo on the side of their helmet. Am I in the right place?
