It would be kind of odd for McCarney to tell Vito he could not comment if it was an injury.
-
Just supposition at this point. No confirmation. Unfortunately, when highly rated players do not sign, history shows us that qualifying turns out to be the most common reason. I hope whatever issue is holding this up works its way out soon and we see Mr. Chumley wearing green very soon.
-
You can't sign a non qualifier. This certainly has the feel of us taking a chance on him qualifying and holding a scholly for him. If so,best of luck to him (and us).
-
Is it possible there was a qualifying issue? I guess I hope it is the foot injury that was mentioned previously, but I have not previously seen any reference to a problem with his foot. Something just feels 'off' about the way this has gone down.

So are we pretty certain that our total for this class is currently at 23? If so, I am trying to think of the reasons why. So far I have come up with the following: 1. Saving a couple of 'ships to offer to walk on after Spring practice. 2. Use on a late qualifier or player that slipped through the cracks. 3. Use on a mid term (January 2015) and push the ship back into 2014. Any other reasons for not filling up the class today?

I would like to know the story behind Antonio Johnson's name missing from offseason workout list.

First day on the job, UNT president Dr. Neal Smatresk talks with Izzy

I was very disappointed with Izzy's interview. Was not her best effort. -
Pretty big shoes to fill.

New Names on Offseason Workout Logs

Antonio Johnson also seems to be missing from the workout list. Not sure what would keep him off the list. -

Geez Kram. Comparing Coach B's substitution pattern to that of a couple of Div II coaches? That's pretty harsh.

Do we have dibs on Apogee?
-
If we have someone 230-240 carrying the ball I would hope to see him at 6-2, not 5-10 although height isn't an end all be all. That dude a couple seasons ago from Coog High and the dude last year from what comes from a Chinaman's arse were both a load to bring down.

Breaking news -- UNT lands QB Caleb Chumley
greenit replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
BDT, any idea what the scoop is on Chumley? -
I think the term you may be looking for is 'bi-curious' Ok, I kid. It was a nice assist. You did most of the setup work. Again, just kicking you and CBL in the nuts to break it up.

The last thing X will remember is going into coach Mac's office and hearing him say "you are getting very sleepy.." -

The Iron Claw (or was it CAW?) was the shizzle back in the day. -
It is unfortunate that we had to wait 1 1/2 years and destroy the interest in the program to get to this point, but it does seem like we are finally playing an up tempo game and shooting when the opportunity first presents itself instead of running around until the end of the shot clock and throwing up a low percentage shot. At least on nights when we are shooting well, we seem to now have a chance. Plus, we are actually getting some buckets in transition. Defense still needs some work, but it has been serviceable of late. A small spark of interest has started to regrow. Our recent ability to go up and down the floor and actually resemble a D1 basketball team and be competitive with decent teams is a marked departure from what we have witnessed for the first 18 months of the Benford experiment. Unfortunately, complete apathy had sat in to the point that I would rather clean the garage than drive an hour for a game. I am hoping to make the MTSU game.

Updated UNT FB 2014 Recruiting Commitment Listing
greenit replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Technically Fortenberry was not official until the first day of spring classes, right? Until he officially received his financial aid documents, he was not officially on scholarship. -
At least the team seems to be starting to get into a bit more of a flow on offense. They seem more willing to push the tempo and take shots when they are available rather than act like a middle school team that is so focused on mechanically running a patterned offense that they forget the point of trying to get an open look. The missed put back layup and the horrible CJ turnover were huge negative plays late in the game. Cannot make those mistakes in close games on the road. Gut wrenching loss, but encouraging to see that we have the ability to hang with a decent team. Hope we can continue the trend and actually start building some momentum going into the conference tourney.

We discussed this kid when he was a senior. If he is motivated, his high school powerlifting numbers were amazing. I believe 400 bench/650 squat. I doubt we have more than a couple of players on our team with those numbers, if that. He could be a hole plugging interior DL that is sorely needed. And in the evenings it sounds like he could build some software to help the AD keep track of season ticket sales. Win/Win.

Keep in mind the coat to cover a scholarship for an out of state player costs us more than in state. -

Don't let the donks ruffle your feathers. They are losing money on every transaction and trying to stay ahead by throwing money at it. That can't last forever. The donks should stick with basketball and soccer. That way when their 3,000 strong fan base shows up, it is not a total embarrassment.

Alll the pregame festivities are over. Benford now has to play the teams he has no control over. We have 16 games in conference. Anything less than 6 wins would be a huge disappointment.
