  1. That's it. Mac has to go. These kinds of articles are proof that he does not fit with the tradition we have been trying to build around here.
  2. Constant level lakes is what really bubbles my skin. I mean who are they to say what the level is. And can they really keep it constant? I didn't think so.
  3. doubt he could win the job in 4 weeks. pass.
  4. I realize there was a lot more to the scrimmage than this video clip, but from the plays in the clip McNulty more than held his own. There were some really nice, crisp throws that we're right on target.
  5. Dang, Brett calling Silver out. Pistols at dawn?
  6. I guess I would consider the current scheme to be a pro-style offense as well, but most seem to think of it as having a power running identity. It was a bit surprised to see that Mac's offenses have generated more passing yards than rushing yards per game in each of his 1st 3 years, while the two periods referenced (with the implication that they were more wide open) previously all generated more rushing yards per game than passing in all but 1 season. DMac era offensive stats (note that somehow there are more passing yards than running yards per game in each of 1st 3 seasons): DT personal stats (year - yds) 2009 - 60, 2010 - 83, 2011 - 1759, 2012 - 2629, 2013 - 2896 (includes bowl) 2011 - Passing = 189.3, Rushing = 152.4 2012 - Passing = 219.1, Rushing = 173.1 2013 - Passing = 229.8, Rushing = 180.7 Hayden Frye era offensive stats: 1973 - Passing = 180.5, Rushing = 74.1 1974 - Passing = 113.0, Rushing = 153.8 1975 - Passing = 104.4, Rushing = 138.5 1976 - Passing = 135.5, Rushing = 144.1 1977 - Passing = 173.5, Rushing = 182.9 1978 - Passing = 163.7, Rushing = 212.0 Scott Hall Years: Personal (year - yds) 2000 - 937, 2001 - 1453, 2002 - 35, 2003 - 1580, 2004 - 1818 (includes bowl) Team (yds/game) 2000 - Passing = 107.3, Rushing = 134.3 2001 - Passing = 141.8, Rushing = 160.4 2002 - Passing = 102.1, Rushing = 182.5 2003 - Passing = 149.9, Rushing = 177.5 2004 - Passing = 157.6, Rushing = 186.4
  7. It sounds like a lot of posters believe we need to get a coach in here with a focus on opening up the offense and who is willing to throw the ball around. If there were only some way of knowing how things might turn out if we follow that blueprint for success. I mean it's not like there has ever been a coach who had success at North Texas who has been so naïve as to rely on a strong defense and a power running game.
  8. No need to bring race into this. Or is there?
  9. Thanks for getting up early Brett. Good stuff!
  10. Benford, the no nonsense, tough nosed, disciplinarian? His way or the highway?
  11. That is awful news about Aniefiok. I wonder if we should call pre crime to let them know.
  12. Wait... So did we sign Daniels and Jackson or not?
  13. My memory must be failing. I thought Mac brought in what was supposed to be the second coming of Manziel and then added one of the top rated QBs in the state of TX? How dare he struggle bringing in highly rated talent at QB. I need to go back and check the interwebs.
  14. Mike Jarvis was a pretty well respected former head coach of a top program, correct? Seems like it can happen anywhere. On the bright side, if Benny keeps bringing in graduates and Jucos, they don't have much time to transfer and hurt the APR.
  15. Based on what we asked of the QB position last year, I am more worried about almost every other unit more than QB. As has been pointed out D-Line is at the top of my list, then probably LB, with Trice gone and who knows what with Lee now Safety is a big concern, then return game. Then I put RB and QB at about the same level of concern. In both positions I feel like we have good options to choose from, but it might take a few games to figure out exactly who it is. I am prepared for a potential drop off because you just don't lose quality seniors like we did without a likely drop off, but I am hopeful that we pick right up where we left off. A lot would have to go right, including QB.
  16. What is kind of odd is that so many on here seem to be calling for the dual threat QB. Go back and look. McNulty has shown that he is the most dual threat of any of the QBs. It seems like most assume DW is faster than Mini Mac. I don't happen to be one of them and MM have proven that he can run, more so than DW based on game results. It's not like we are suddenly going to require a QB to throw it all over the field. We need some to make accurate 0-20 yard throws with the occasional downfield attempt, plus add some threat of running. Time will tell. Lots of time and opportunity for DW to show what he has before these types of decisions have to be made. I will admit the 2011 Tulsa game and the one attempt against Idaho are hard to un-see.
  17. If we have not just one, but two QBs that have apparently been able to pull ahead of a QB that our local experts on such things believe is the best talent to come along in some time, wouldn't that be a good thing?
  18. Me thinks the uninformed masses (myself included) focus on the 40 times and bench reps because we an process those pretty easily. I am sure there is a reason the people doing the evaluations put them through several additional drills, tests, interviews, etc...
  19. Agreed. RS Freshman doesn't mean he has reached his potential. I think about some of the top programs and how a QB may only get a year or maybe two and that is very normal. Lots of time left for someone to step up and win the job.
  20. Maybe McNulty could somehow become real accurate with a below average arm. What was the kid's name from Boise a few years ago? Seems like his name started with a K. It's not likely, but I would think that would be the best case scenario for someone with McNulty's arm strength.
  21. I agree on the flashes of brilliance. Followed by bad mistakes or negative feedback. That is what prompted the Romo comparison. If the summation is so off base what do you attribute his apparent fall from favorite to 3rd on the depth chart? Not that we know where he actually is, but that seems to be the current read.
  22. The only game action (or live practice for that matter) I have seen was the Idaho game, in which he showed nice skills in his brief appearance. From there, it seems all the feedback/reports has either been meh, or negative. It seems like the longer the coaches have had to see him in action, the less they like what they see. That is concerning if true because I assumed he was the favorite entering winter workouts to be the next starting QB. Hopefully he can turn it around and be the player so many think he is. If nothing else, it will make for a better competition. Based on the information available so far, I am not sold that he will, and that will be disappointing.
  23. Isn't a lot of the argument against Romo that he puts up flashy numbers and that he cant win because he doesn't value the ball?
  24. It seems the general consensus is that we are intent on not putting our best QB out there. Let's give DW an extreme amount of credit based on nothing at this point but hype and underperformance in actual practice and workouts. Say he somehow outperforms all current indicators and turns out to be a college version of a Tony Romo. Will you still think he is a great QB when he throws for 275yds, has three picks a game and goes 6-6? Not saying that he necessarily will, but so far he isn't doing anything to prove he won't while the other guys are taking care of business. I seem to recall Southern Miss going through a similar decision recently and started/continued a horrendous losing streak before pulling the plug. May have set their program back several years. Whoever wins out, will be the QB that gives us the best chance of winning consistently, until said QB proves he can't and the next one will step in.
  25. Oh no. If the clearly superior QB is no good, what do we do then?
