And if the buyout does somehow impact a future decision then that goes back to the person that made the extension. If he cleaned up his own mess and it doesn't hurt the program, then that is what he is supposed to do. Not realistic to expect no mistakes. Just clean up your mistakes without impacting everything else. Happens at other programs as well. Benford is a prime example. It seemed like a good enough hire at the time. He was able to retain TM. Then it became obvious it was a mistake yet it went unfixed. If the Mac buyout somehow impacts decision making on Benford, then again, a problem.

It didn't cost you or I an extra dime. Impossible to say whether that money would have been available otherwise. The 17 took care of it. Thank you. Now, if they were just as critical in other areas.

Coach Canales 1st UNT Press Conference (Periscope)

"Will we open it up? Sure, we got nothing to lose." -
The McNatt money was new. The other two donations were from last year (Golf Center and Super Pit/practice facility).

I may get obliterated on this question...
greenit replied to Tyler Maryak's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't see how you can recruit well if you are working on a 1 year contract. I guess it is possible to publicly give a guy a 5 year contract, but privately only guarantee a shorter term, but I doubt any coach would go for that. I would say that if anyone was in a position to take something like this it would be the interim guy. -
I don't see how the extension hurt us at all. The only way it would have hurt is if we did not make this move and left ourselves handcuffed for the next three years. It does not appear that the extension prevented us from making the tough call. I hope that decision signifies true change around here.

Are you being a little optimistic?

OK first list was too young -- how about these?

What about Mike Norvell at AZ State? Probably out of our price range though. -
Not sure how connected Pete is. This figure sounds a lot like his base salary times 3 years to get to the $1.8 number. Not counting the rest of this year, or his incentive money. Would actually be pretty good news if that was all that is owed.

UNT donors have really stepped it up; we must as well
greenit replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
And one of the ways he tried to accomplish that goal was through a $25 Spiriki level. No telling how much money we could save by cutting his salary. -
@flyonthewall had mentioned a few weeks back that they were already seeing things implode. I think there was more going on behind the scenes than we know. The kids had been half way quitting for a couple of games and the defense straight up quit from the opening whistle yesterday. I just hope it was a Mac problem and not a Cosh problem. Otherwise, Cosh needs to go as well. It is hard to say on offense. I guess we will see if a lot of this all to do with protest to AM at QB.

'16 OL Chris Hughes (Harker Heights)
greenit replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Man recruiting could be especially ugly this year. Surely Mac knew he was leaving after the season or trying to get fired and was simply mailing in recruiting. Seems like grounds for breach of contract to me. Certainly not normal behavior. -
McCarney Buyout to Delay Baseball Yet Again?
greenit replied to Greenrex's topic in Mean Green Football
Lovelace is the major donor behind baseball. He and possibly a couple of others have committed enough supposedly to get us to the point we can get financing. I have not seen anything that the buyout will affect baseball, but I could easily see it delaying things, which would suck. -
Highlights from McCarney's Final Game at NT
greenit replied to UNT 90 Grad's topic in Mean Green Football
I guess they did not think they could get away with showing the TD play a 4th time. I am amazed they were able to find 2 1/2 minutes of footage. -

greenit replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The lower and middle tier of donors is essentially the MGC. We have a senior staffer who is supposed to be running/growing that program as well as I think season tickets. His name is John Nittardy. WTF does he do? I think MGC membership and season tickets have actually dropped since he joined. Time to get rid of some dead weight around here. He is essentially in a sales position. It is not to hard to see if he is hitting his sales goals. -
Does anyone have a friend in facilities?

MGB: Sounds like Smith is going to get his shot
greenit replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
We should have some chances on offense. Defense is going to be scary. -

He should have had at least 3 quarters of play on Saturday. In the end, this is all most of us were wanting. Let's see him for a few games and see if he has anything. -
Lots of talk about needing a spread offense in order to recruit. I have also seen Willie Fritz's name come up multiple times. We would basically eliminate ourselves from any QB recruiting. Do we really want to run the option? Maybe it would be the gimmick we need. No other team in the conference or state runs it. I am a little hesitant, but I could probably be convinced. I think I would rather have an up and coming spread disciple, but then again we tried that recently.

Definitely. First step is lock the gate.

From afar, it seems like a lot of local coaches get mad when UNT doesn't continue to beg them for scraps when the local kids continually shun UNT and the coaches clearly are not steering kids our way over other G5 opportunities. When a salesperson continually gets the cold shoulder from a customer they eventually stop calling on them. It is a two way street.

I am hopeful that the new President and the new AD will help in the intangible area.

Since most coaching contract restrict direct contact by athletic departments with coaches under contract, don't the recruiters/consultants allow communication to occur while still under contract? Essentially, the consultants allow schools to get around the no contact clauses by conducting their search without requiring direct contact until later in the process when they know both sides are interested. Essentially they give the candidates a virtual piece of paper with a 'check here if you like UNT'. Once they have a short list, they can provide that info to the employer.

That's why they call it a coaching tree. Unfortunately, as we saw first hand, not all branches bear fruit no matter how strong the trunk.
