Exactly. And a win is the reason we schedule them as well (potential win) yet when we have them it is unacceptable. Here is a team in the playoff conversation that has two of them.
-
Team dietician?
-
It seems this was brought up before and someone mentioned that the conference had not been reversing the order of the CUSA East opponents. However, that may have been due to all the conference changes. One more season and then only 1 CUSA East opponent per year (unless there are more conference changes of course).
-
Conference mates don't count. They are a P5 and hosted 2 FCS teams as part of their OOC home slate. Seems as bad or worse than our bad scheduling. Get the Fire Bubba campaign started. His scheduling has cost them a chance at the national championship.
-
So t me get this straight. They played 2 FCS teams at home as part of their OOC schedule? Not even RV has gone that far. UNC90 must be going nuts.

One of these days, with a lot of hard work, our basketball program might work its way back UP to 'not so good'.

Would you be interested in one of these?

I am still a little gunshy about having a coordinator come from the high school ranks. Although having a HS head coach as a coordinator would be a little better than trying to make the jump from HS coordinator to FBS coordinator. -
UNC Football: Coach Littrell Post Practice - 12/1
greenit replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Does UNC practice near a cemetery with walking dead milling about in the fog in the background? -
I am not exactly sure who Littrell may bring with him in terms of staff, but does anyone know our budget? It seems that most have been throwing around a number of roughly $1mm for the head coach. What about assistants? The last I number I heard was a $1.4mm pool to cover the assistant coaches. I am not sure how many assistants this covers and whether or not it includes the S&C coach and the director of operations as well as the 2 GA positions. Here are some possible numbers: OC - $250k DC - $250k Top position coaches - 4 X $125k = $500k Next position coaches - 5 X $100k = $500k Total of 9 coaches @ $1.5mm Plus cost of S&C coach ~ $110k Plus director of operations ~$90k Plus 2 GA positions (I have no idea but probably not much since they are receiving free education, maybe $50k each?) If these numbers are realistic, what type of guys can we get as coordinators? Current position coaches, or maybe coordinators/HC at a lower level? Where do position coaches come from? Not sure if you can get a good Tx HS coach at a big school to take a position coach spot for $125k. Why punish the G5 with fewer bowl opportunities?
-
Don't worry RV has got this covered. I am sure RV played Littrell's agent from IMG like a rented fiddle.
-
"Clemsoning" is a term based on years and years of history.
-
It is entirely possible that Meacham's agent, sensing Meacham was the preferred choice, tried to play hardball with the terms and UNT had to back away and never offer. Hard to say without someone on the inside. If UNT knew they were not going to be able to meet the requirements they threaten to move on to the 'other guy'. Each side throws a little smoke out in the media to force the other's hand, chaos ensues, etc... Who the F really knows?
-
Then, using corporate logic, promote him to DC. Do I have to think of everything? What happened to the guy we lost to OU that seemed like he was recruiting pretty well for us at one time?
-
Well, looks like he did give a shout out to Benford.
-
Not that I disagree, but Scott should probably choose his words a little better considering his profession.

brett vito Monday afternoon coach search update

Let's go full tin foil hat here. Consider this scenario: <scene opens> Smatresk does not like RV. He thinks he is inept, but he has to play it smart. Smatresk knows there are two very qualified final candidates. He knows RV has a favorite (Meacham). After all the guy has TCU ties. Smatresk decides Littrell is equally qualified, maybe even likes him a little more. He allows it to get out that there are two finalist and that Meacham has the last interview (knowing RV will want to offer as soon as interview is complete). Smatresk makes sure this info is allowed to get out (hello @Brett Vito). Vito has been around the block and senses what is going on. Vito makes sure to get the word out that RV's leading candidate is Meacham, but knows that Meacham is not going to get the job. Word starts spreading on the interweb. RV looks smart. Nice hire. Good choice. Then, a small hiccup. There seems to be a delay. Conflicting reports. Chaos. UNT AD looks inept. Which candidate is it? I thought RV was in charge? Who is really in charge? Finally, the trigger is pulled. It is not Meacham. It becomes very clear who is in charge. And who is not. UNT gets the guy that @UNTPrez wanted all along and he figuratively castrates his AD in the process. <fade to black> Brett Vito can be heard laughing in the background in his best Vincent Price voice... <end> That is how the big boys play politics
-
I can definitely see the argument for Meacham. Don't we play them at Apogee in a couple of years?

Smatresk seems extremely politically savvy. I think he is toying with RV. When he is done having fun, he will do what needs doing if RV hasn't already left. All he has to do is start making RV doing the things he needs to do to get things on track, all while building a file of examples of issues. RV seems smart enough that he would get the message. In the past, I don't think RV's boss ever took as much of an interest in sports as Smatresk seems to take.

MGB breaking news -- Harris officially gone
greenit replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
My money is on that engineering kid that is way too focused on academics when with a little focus could be our best scorer. Selfish. -
I guarantee you that if you asked a player or a player's parent they would think they get roasted on here. YMMV.
