  1. If Rick can get the stadium started and started NOW, I will call him KING Rick !!!!!
  2. I have never hear that Villereal was in it for the glory so that is why I questioned the comments by that post.
  3. Is Villereal a glory hog?
  4. This big kid looks like a project for at least a season or two. I sure like his size but he is slow footed and you have to be able to move your feet against the lineman of today who are speedsters.
  5. The Vizza kid has some serious balls. He took the gamble knowing fully that Riley would come. Evidentially, he took the gamble instead of going to Rice or Nevada, and has the confidence to take on Riley. This kid does not back down. Alamo Heights dudes say this kid will run through a truck to lead his teamates on the field. They say he has a linebacker mentality, so bringing on Riley probably just fires up the Italian Stallion even more. We will get the best player on the field. Riley and Giovanni are gamers, I am glad that I am not Todd and having to make a decision. My guess is Vizza plays in 2007 with this weak offensive line, new WR set, and if he can move the ball now, then watch out. It is a shame that we will not have an O-line with big time senior leadership giving Vizza a chance to make some plays from standing up rather on his back. You noticed in spring ball that our offense only moved the ball when our defense played straight up and did not bring the heat. Our defense could have dominated all spring, that is a big concern for whoever the hell the QB is going to be.
  6. Two DE's are the ticket.
  7. I just joined the board but it couldn't have been this much news and development...........this much excitement. Whoever thought that Denton would get two caliber kids that can play lights out.
  8. YOU guys are right about waiting after the 2007 season BUT it sures makes good conversation.
  9. We do not need Tre Newton, we now need Offensive Lineman and some guys on Defense.
  10. Hopefully, all this coverage will ride the program to its way overdue new stadium and practice bubble. IT is NOW or Never.
  11. Nepotism vs. the Mafia Talent vs. Talent Champion vs. Champion Connection vs. being Connected Dodge Hemi vs. Ferrari Made in America vs. Made in Italy SLC vs. Alamo Heights (suburbia vs. suburbia) Does anyone really think that Riley won't be hand the keys to the Mean Green machine in one year or two? The Italian Stallion will have to beat all odds to win this job. If he can, we'll have something very speical.
  12. I guess when you really think about it, Vizza had to know that Riley was coming. There was no way the Dodge football family was going to seperate on game days, just no way. It would have killed Todd not to see Riley play. With that said, you just had to know that Vizza knew it was going to happen. Vizza has big italian meatballs to look in the mirror every day and know that you have to beat the Head Coaches son, that takes big balls. You have to respect a kid like that. I give him credit for coming to UNT and not going to Rice or Nevada knowing that strong possiblity. The Riley Dodge story is great for our program. It will really be something when he gets on campus in 2008.
  13. I have many friends who have seen him play. Great leader, fierce competitor, and a kid who just now is beginning to mature body wise. He took a threw for over 742 yards in the final two games of the season, almost 500 total yards in th STATE FINAL.....Look at the video, the kid can play.........my friends in San Antonio tell me he has a tremendous work ethic and backs down from no one. Everyone knows what Riley can do. Riley has all the intangibles. This will make the program bettter to have the two battle for it. The cream always rises to the top. Both kids could have gone to many different schools but chose UNT because of Todd Dodge. You have to feel for the Vizza kid. But at the same time, you knew it was inevitable that Riley was headed here to play, so did Vizza, he had to have known that this was most probable. We have two high quality athletes that bring a lot to the table. Vizza has one season to do it (this year) or he might transfer like Sneed did at Texas. Unfortunately, that is the life of D-1 football. Vizza either wins the job for four seasons or he is gone after this year. Riley will Red shirt or immediately play his true freshman season, it will depend on the 2007 season. Todd will give the ball to Riley............... if the Meager-Vizza project does not work out. Riley's comments are "I expect to play early on." Enough said..............He wouldn't say that without TD's approval.
  14. Exactly, more upside. Again, just my opinion and seeing how the QB's played last season, I think Dodge might go with Vizza if all other things are equal.
  15. Having Riley switch is really no surprise. He wants to play QB and his body is built to play QB. AT UT he was just going to be another guy and here at UNT he will compete for the position early on. Having given this some thought, Riley will red shirt his Freshman season. He is 5 Ft. 9" maybe on a good day 5 ft. 10" and will hit the weightroom hard to get up to 180 lbs. UNT weighed in Vizza and he weighs over 200 lbs. (look at their weight boards in the trainers room). Vizza now will definitely NOT redshirt. Vizza will play some but not sure if he'll play himself into the starting role. Again, per my previous post, if Vizza is close to Meager, I believe he starts and gets the playing time. Coach Dodge will then no what to do with Riley the following season, imo. We now have two winners at QB, two state champions who can throw the ball and our spread offense QB's. Riley Dodge knows the system bettter than any of them, and that gives him an edge. Riley has been in this system since middle school. Great problem to have, VIZZA vs. DODGE. Competition will be unreal. Riley's decision only affects Vizza and Tune. Meager is not affected by Riley. Meager, being a junior, will not be affected by this signing. We will not sign a quality QB after Riley for several seasons, that might be a problem. Nobody will want to sit on the bench (who is a quality player) behind Riley for 3 or 4 seasons so that is something that will be interesting to study in the future. Bottom line, Riley brings us a top tier player, more exposure for the Mean Green and more possible players who just might switch their verbal commitments to UNT with this signing.
  16. This is and will continue to be the great debate.................now.................and then again............when whoever is selected does poorly against OU and SMU. It is possible that the Freshman kid wins the job. He wasn't recruited by Army, Air Force, Rice, and Nevada and whoever else came in late for nothing. But when you start a freshman, you really have to have patience, big time patience. Just ask Matt Stafford???
  17. Man, I just hope the Dodge momentum can last. Hopefully, it will last and he'll stick around awhile to get UNT over the hump. We need the stadium and the indoor practice facility to be more competitive. WE NEED TO CONTINUE THE DODGE DREAM! To be the team of the Metro Plex.
  18. So if Woody is the man, why did he come out of spring and play the least during the spring game? Woody is an athlete first, their is a big difference between an athlete who can run and a true spread QB. I cannot disagree with your opinion above, so Dodge might just go with the Freshman. If the Freshman is anywhere close to Meager, he'll get the start. We'll take our lumps against OU with him (but that is true with any of the QB's) and then hopefully the kid will feel like he is back playing high school seniors when he goes up against the ponies. Our freshman QB might be the best QB recruit in a long time, but we will have to have some patience. If Meager wins the job, I expect Vizza still to play or Tune. The second teamer will take about 20% of the snaps, imo, and the team will have no doubts about who its starter will be. Dodge will not play ring around the rosies with our QB's.
  19. Some of you are getting my comments confused with what is being said by TD and what was shown at the spring game. Meager is and was the leader coming out spring ball, he was called that early in spring ball. Why?..... because he has the best mechanics and fits the mold of what Dodge is looking for in a QB. That doesn't mean I am a Meager believer, I just believe that Meager is #1 right now and nothing is going to change that until fall practice. Tune is #2 because he is a freshman, a RSF. Woody was fourth team during spring ball, he missed many practices or came in late because of his class schedule. Woody fits the mobility that Dodge is looking for but does not have the consistent accuracy, any one who saw him practice, during the spring, could see that. Unfortunately, as nice a kid as Phillips is, he might get caught up (most likely will) in the numbers game. Only 3 QB's travel on away games. That leaves Tune, Phillips, and Vizza competing for the other two travel spots and possibly the starting position. I believe it will boil down to Meager, Tune and Vizza during August. Players tell me that it will be Meager vs. Vizza but I do not count out Tune because he is raw. Vizza is a spread QB, has been a spread QB, and won a STATE championship in a spread offense................that cannot be overlooked. Any QB who had about 500 yards in total offense against a Stud team and program like Copperas Cove (with D-1's all over the field) in the biggest game of is life, cannot be overlooked. But Tune has some size advantages and is still learning the spread. Tune might sneak in there and give'em hell. All I am saying is what Dodge says, Meager is the leader but August will decide it. Daniel Meager is being coached for the first time at the collegiate level. That might make the difference. I believe Vizza's competiveness and work ethic (as being told by some of the WR's) will give Dodge a tough decision. Best of luck to all four QB's who will compete for the RIGHT TO FACE OU, that is a tough way to start the Dodge era. ( I hope I am wrong !!!!) Ask Tech how hard it is to throw the ball against the boys from Norman.
  20. Hopefully, that leads to more attendance in the grand scheme of things. We have to get the folks from Denton to get their ass to the games.
  21. I doubt the Prince kid was on scholarship. He walked on and never got in the mix. UNT went with three different QB's last season and kept Tune on the sideline for redshirt purposes (but Nathan to his credit walked on and earned a scholarship from DD). This season one QB will move to another position and that person looks like Woody. Woody is an athlete but not an accurate QB that Dodge DEMANDS. Woody would have served himself and the team better to workout this spring at DB or WR. Heck, we only had three WR's on scholarship in the spring. Unfortunately, if this summer, Woody is not working out at another position, he possibly not might contribute much this season. Any one know if Woody is working out with the WR's or DB's this summer? The QB is a three man race, Meager is the front runner, Tune is second, and the freshman is third, imo. Whoever comes out of that competition will be tough minded, a leader, a QB who reads well, and most importantly, Dodge stresses accuracy. Dodge wants an accurate QB that can make a few plays with his feet. If their is anyone who can improve our QB play, it is TD and Coach Ford. Meager might flourish in that enviroment but then again Vizza came out of the spread enviroment. Tune is adapting from his Celina days and is a big kid. This will be the story of two a days.
  22. Fox Sports and UNT beating OU would be a dream for Dodge and the program. I just want the Mean Green to play respectable and be in the game in the second half, that would be quite an accomplishment and set the tone for the rest of the season. If Dodge can get some early success in Norman, it might be a fun game to watch. If not, it could be a long day. Dodge opening up with a loss with be something awfully new for him. He will be ready for the pony ride, the following week.
  23. One thing to remember is that Giovanni Vizza is from a highly successful spread offense. He will need to adjust to the speed of the college game. That is where Meager has a huge advantage that he will use; Experience, being three years older and more mature, going through spring ball and being with Dodge. Feeling Giovanni's presence, Meager will feed off that and win some games? That is what my mind is telling me. However, I have heard that the Freshman is already making his presence known and supposedly quite the competitor. Daniel will just rise to another level and ultimately make Dodge ball a hit.
  24. Rick V. can only go in so many directions. I believe that the Football Stadium is the high priority right now. However, I see an indoor football practice facility in less than two years, Hopefully less. Rick knows if the bread is to be buttered (in the grand scheme of all athletics), it will be the result of the success of the Dodge era. I believe it is now or never for UNT to go to the next level and it always starts with football. I just hope that Dodge's contract has a 7 figure buyout to keep at least some of the schools away.
  25. RIGHT NOW MUTS don't know Todd Dodge if he walked right up there on their practice fields. But they damn sure will get to know him in a hurry when TD lays about 50 on them.
