  1. 7 on 7 is going on at the stadium M-Thurs after conditioning workouts? Anyone seen any of the play? My understanding is that the Junior and Seniors pair up who they want and then they go after it. For example, Meager and Tune split series on one side of the field and then Woody, Phillips and Vizza go on the other side. I have not seen any of this but that is my understanding how this is being done. Freshman get in on occasions and our learning the system. Several freshman are ahead of the game because they have been at school for 5 weeks. Love to hear anyone's comments about how they look. Last person who saw some workouts called our TEAM slow footed, not exactly what I was hoping to hear.
  2. If we were to move into a new conference, regardless of conference, how many years (best case scenario) would it take to move? Is the Stadium the biggest hurdle, the lack of following UNT attracts, or a combination of both?
  3. My opinion isn't worth anything. I know that and you know that. THIS IS a freakin message board to strike ideas and thoughts
  4. Nepotism is a tough topic. I believe your right, that QB's will hesitate to come for at least two seasons or so. Hell, we'll have five QB's again, possibly six (with the SMU transfer) during spring ball next season. I am not real sure why Riley or Todd would want that kind of scruntiny? Especially, at that position. That said, I believe Meager (outside chance that Tune) will get the nod this season. Willie and Phillips are toast and the freshman is a freshman (enough said). Riley will redshirt and either beat out Tune or Vizza in 2009 if Meager emerges and plays well in '07-'08. Maybe Coach Archie can chime in on Meager and his thoughts starting this season.
  5. Somebody might thinking that kid was Russo and it could have been someone else. Kyle Russo looked like he was in good condition at the Oil Bowl from what I have heard. Ease off the kid.
  6. I think Meager or Woody will do fine in the offense. IT is the OL that will make or break us. WE sure look lean and inexperienced, imo.
  7. It makes you wonder if UNT lost any kids?
  8. UNT's will score 10 points against OU, all in the 4th QTR. Meager gets the start but the offense will struggle against the NFL "D" of OU. Hopefully, OU starts a unproven QB and hopefully things start off sluggish, which keeps the game farily respectable.
  9. SLOW ?????? Conditioning workouts, at least to me, do not tell you a lot about team speed. You mentioned only one WR, what about the other WR's, Fitzgerald looked slow? Or was this a limited conditioning workout? I have heard they have three different times to report. I respect your observation though, don't get me wrong. I have always believed that athletes look slower in practice and during the day than they do on game nights, imo. Interested to see how the other WR's looked? Any route running going on after conditioning workouts?
  10. Hey KBJ, which recruits are you talking about? Are you talking about the 2007 class? What have you seen, just curious to yourimpression and why?
  11. I hope we can get some OL. Some big old country boys who throw around a DT or LB like feed sacks.
  12. Dodge has already done what Dickey never did.............. get off your ass and recruit. In all the years at Southlake, Dodge was never approached by coaches at UNT about kids who can play at the next level. NEVER. Dickey never had any relations with Texas high school coaches. He was too big for that. He had a policy of never extending an offer until the completion of a kid's senior season. To my knowledge, this is fact. Dodge has an arrogance to him (just being honest), their is no doubt about that...but he also backs it up with hard work, disclipline, and character. His teams play with swagger. This will be the challenge of his life. I like so many, are betting that he can pull it off. Can Dodge out coach Dickey? Who knows, but he has definitely out worked him in a very short period of time with enthusiasm and connecting with Texas High School coaches, who are the pipe line for getting and finding top notch players, who do not go to the Big 12. Bring it on TD, bring it........
  13. Now if Dodge pulls off a recruit committed to Oregon to UNT, then we all will need to bow down. Blake wants to play in a major conference.
  14. I am surprised Evan is not showing up on the roster. WE are lean and really inexperienced on the OL. NO OL no offensive production, it won't matter about the style of offense. (my bad I forgot to mention Banks in my thread)
  15. July 06, 2007 UNT offseason workouts Joe Hubbard checked in with a question today about the North Texas football team's voluntary offseason workouts. In short, he wanted to know if there were any going on. The answer is, yes. UNT's players are actively getting ready for the season. Just today, incoming freshman quarterback Giovanni Vizza was on the practice fields outside the Mean Green Athletic Center throwing passes to a group of five or six receivers. Vizza is one of several incoming freshmen who are already on campus. UNT's coaches are not allowed much in the way of contact with players in terms of offseason workouts, but there is little doubt the players are taking matters into their own hands. On most days when one walks by the athletic department there are players filtering in and out of the weight room and on and off of the practice fields. Several remained in Denton this summer to get ready for their first season playing for Todd Dodge. Posted by Brett Vito at 7:15 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0) I love to see the kids fired up and getting ready. Throwing on FRIDAY when most kids are home or partying????? Sounds like we have some hungry kids wanting to hit the field.....................
  16. What did Todd say about Meager? What is the status of the other QB's
  17. For those of you who missed it a couple weeks ago, the Todd Dodge interview on Southwest Kia Sportstalk will re-air tonight (4th of July) at 6:30pm and 11:35pm on KFWD Channel 52. The channel number varies on different cable systems, so check your listings. They're replaying it because they received a lot of emails about UNT Football since the interview originally aired, so that's aweso
  18. Can any tape the interview and post it on the site for us guys who live out of the viewing area. Is that possible???? It will be much appreciated by all the Mean Green fans who live all over the state and elsewhere!!!!!! Thanks in advance.
  19. SMUUUUUU just cannot get over that they offered both Giovanni and Riley and got zero interest. Vizza was headed to Nevada except for the late push by Dodge himself. Riley is just smart (along with Todd) that giving a verbal now creates excitement that MIGHT yield us an additional one or two kids who otherwise might have gone to a school like Tulsa, Houston, Boise, or some other WAC or Conf. USA team.
  20. Riley just was caught up in the numbers game. UT has too many QB's on scholarship.
  21. Look for Todd to pick kids with quick feet and the frame that might be a little undersized and then GROW'EM. He'll pick tackles that are used to playing in the spread as well, imo, because they do not get down in a three point stance.
  22. SMU is just sick because their QB situation sucks. They have no one behind Justin Willis. They offered Riley early and thought he might go there instead of playing for his dad, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? SMU is just hurting for QB's and could only wish they could have gotten Riley. The kid they recruited this year that they signed from Springtown throws as many int's as TD's. SMU only wishes they had Riley, Tune, and Vizza in their future. UNT is looking solid for several seasons.
  23. I nominate the above post as the "Riley Dodge Will Put Up Some Good Numbers As A D1-A College QB" post of the week! Not really sure where the very QB who was the field general for the 2006 Texas UIL 5A state football champion has been made to be all but "talent-less" from some of these wretched college message boards across our great state. It's almost laughable to read some of the non-chalant "he has no college level" QB talent concerning Riley Dodge. (Did they not see the same televised 5A state championship game some of us saw, for heaven's sake)? Great post, GEO! BTW, WELCOME TO MEAN GREEN COUNTRY, MR VIZZA! What the hell does that mean? The only people who feel like Riley can't play D-1 football are the big guys like UT, A&M, and Oklahoma. Mid level conferences would love to have the caliber of QB's we have or will get these past two seasons. I seriously doubt that Meager, Vizza, or Tune are worried about something that may or may not happen at this stage in their career. If our QB's are smart, they don't read any of this BS because that is what most of it is, instead our players should worry about what they can do and not some kid who may or may not eventually end up playing for his Dad. I am sure Meager and the Boys are NOT really worried about a kid who is not even at their University yet. All of those QB's who have any nuts are anxious to get it on NOW and next year will take care of itself.
  24. I would love to hear there comments on all the latest news and what they expect is in store. NOW THAT WOULD INTERESTING.
