Ultimately, TD has to take some responsibility doesn't he? We talk about missed tackles but we never talk about the 4-3 scheme and the lack of creativity. One thing I like that Dodge can learn from Mack Brown is ( and I quote " players win games and coaches lose them.") Like Mack or hate Mack, he shoulders on the blame when things go bad. I admire that trait. He gives all credit to his coaches and players. Mack has no arrogancy in his approach. And the crazy thing about my comments is that I despise Texas.

Evan at least tries to run north and south. I agree that their must be someone that can return KO and punts, on our roster, that can do a better job than what we have seen so far.
-
Evan plays his ass off. He gives it all he's got. He would make a great nickel back or be good in dime packages but we don't run a whole lot but straight up 4-3 (base). His hair is his own deal. You take him out of the OU game and nobody would be talking about him (in a negative way). Leave my boy Evan alone, he is just not a cover 1 corner, against the OU and Arkansas of the world. Evan would be very capable in multiple scheme defenses, coming off the edge, etc. etc. TD hired Mendoza because Mendoza shut SLC down several games in HS. That is why Mendoza is on TD's staff, he gave TD hell in HS, its the truth, straight up. If you don't believe me, as Todd himself. Hell, Vito can get that info from Todd. TD made the call on getting Evan, since all of you trust in Todd, believe in Todd, etc., then maybe Evan is being played in the wrong situations. Our personnel adjustments have not been the best, you can't blame that on Evan.

We need the speed of Penson to help control the running game of ULL. If ULL plays soft, (no press coverage) Meager will have a big night. ULL gives up the short and intermediate passing game which Meager excels at. Interesting to see if Jamario gets on track. At least we'll be in our element playing a team that the running game is their main stay.

Toby is a nice kid. I feel for the young man. Instead of knocking him down, lets offer the Toby some help.
-
Not sure but I guess I'll take this as a compliment. But rather than being Austin Powers and Doctor Evil, I'd really like to be is a stud 19 year old DB who can play ball for UNT. We need help in the secondary and I could also return punts and kickoffs.

Dickey ball is rotten ball. He'll be gone this season or next.

I think newuntfan might be confused that TD is not going to have a set plan for the QB situation. Maybe TD does in fact have his plan but isn't revealing what he is going to do. Only my assumption.

Better Field Position Tops Unt To-do List
Dodge2007 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
We have played every combination of DE's, LB's, DB's and we still have not figured out any way to stop our opponent. FAU would have scored more if they would have caught the ball and if that QB would have been more consistent. I don't give a lot of credit to our scheme against FAU. Dodge needs to accept some responsibility and take on more of the rope when it comes our defensive scheme. Has he done that yet? Has he mentioned that yet? I have not heard one person on the staff take any responsibilty for our lack of defense. Our staff called it our strength, then either we are not well prepared or they lack the complete ability to judge college level talent. Maybe Dodge early on saw this collegiate level defense and compared it to what he saw in high school and said "this is going to be the strength of our team." Anyone not thinking that Dodge and Mendoza are not learning on the fly, need to have their head examined. HS football is not NCAA football. I think our staff is realizing that now. -
I read a lot of posts about body bag games. That mentality has got to change. Kids want to play in the big time stadiums, they want to be on TV, they want a shot to prove to those schools that they should have been recruited by the SEC, Big 12, etc. I believe that UNT should model its program after several schools who have the mentality that we will play anyone.......anywhere. Yeah, will get our ass handed to us for a few seasons, we'll collect some big dollars to put back into the program, and then if Dodge can coach like and have the mentality of a guy like Pat Hill, this program will take off. To get the respect of the nation, and to rid ourselves of the Sun Belt mentality that the nation has of this conference, UNT must continue to play the big boys. Now, Fresno State can't get all the big boy games anymore, no one wants to play them as much. What a great problem that would be.
-
Great Photos and bad ass facilities (thanks rick). You can see why kids go to the SEC and the Big 12. Now why would a kid (not mention any names) turn down the opportunity to compete for a starting position at that type of opportunity? If your truly bad ass, why would you turn down the opportunity to have those kind of facilities, those kind of fans, that kind of environment every game, to come to UNT?? Don't tell me it's because he wanted to play in our spread offense or in our Mendoza led defense. If your bad ass, size doesn't matter, regardless of the position you play. If someone tells you your to small to play LB or whatever position, then you prove them wrong, (Zach Thomas, Wes Welker, Drew Tate, Eric Metcalf, Dante Hall, Doug Flutie, and the lists goes on forever) I guess the purpose of this post is that those facilities are so hard to compete with. UNT has to get that stadium built to try to compete. UNT has to win games, it cannot back down from the games that Fresno State took on for many years. I hate to say it but we need more games like Arkansas every season. Then and only then will the program grow. Non conference losses don't mean a thing and after many seasons, the gap will close (if we can recruit like everyone says we will) and Dodge and Mendoza and the SLC team are as good as we think they are.

Vizza has not had the opportunity to throw the bubble screens and all the short stuff because none of it was available against OU and Arkansas. All of Vizza's throws have been throwing the ball down the field, he has not had the opportunity to throw all the high percentage passes because of the press coverage that OU and Ark. threw at us. WR's could not get any separation from the DB's regardless of 1st or 2nd teamers against either OU or Ark.
-
Sorry Fake Lonnie, Your wrong. Vizza was in with the first team against Arkansas in the 2nd Quarter and took UNT 80 yards and a score. Against OU he had two thorpe DB candidates in the game in the 3rd quarter and then played against 2nd's in the fourth quarter. Arkansas's and OU first, seconds and third's are better than any Sun Belt foe except for Troy and Ark. State. It is obvious Fake Lonnie that you must have not been at either game in person. I like DM and felt DM would get the job done as I stated all summer but the true fact is that Vizza is just more talented than Danny. He has more moxie, pocket presence, better arm, better legs, better leadership, and runs the ball like a mother. It is one thing for the fans to want him but it is completely different when the team wants him. The team wants Vizza to start so he must be doing everything right in practice and in the film room etc. It was so obvious that Vizza is better than Meager in that second quarter against Arkansas. This comment comes from me who backed Danny all the way. But any kid who can move the ball after sitting the 1st quarter and who has not taken a snap since SEPTEMBER 1, deserves his opportunity. TD is affraid to be accused of the merry go round of using QB's. I think he gave DM all the rope and now its time to see what Vizza can do from on the onset. He is a spark and does bring excitement to the fans but more importantly to the freakin team. IT is obvious if you were there at the game.
-
I wonder what the rotation will be like this game? Any thoughts. I read that Meager was good with the rotation. You can tell Vizza is chomping on the bit to get some playing time (he is very intense, even on the sidelines as others have already posted). I have come to the conclusion that if Vizza does his thing (similar to OU) that he'll start against Lafayette. If DM starts hot again, the rotation plan could get off track since Dodge stated that his plan was to use Vizza in all three games. The thing about Vizza is that he has not seen game action in 4 weeks. Its like starting all over for him. It might take this guy two or three series just to get adjusted.

Having a little bit of fun got my ass tossed off the board. I am minding my P's and Q's, well maybe some of the time. I wouldn't be D2007 if I didn't bring some points of view that differed with the board.

Ark. State is going to be tough to beat on Thursday night in November. That was one heckuva come back. I would love to see that kind of crowd for the UNT game.

Drc Blurb..which Fr Will Play This Year
Dodge2007 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Vito should know better than that. The only way Ealey red shirts is through the medical red shirt program, which I wouldn't wish on anyone (getting hurt). -
Roberson is a beast. Only problem is he is very "green" at running routes and learning the system. He is a big project that has up side, big time upside. If you have ever seen him, he runs inadequate routes and just never received any coaching at the 3A level. But boy does he have an upside.
-
That is worst than any of my posts.
-
It must be fact then. I don't see on Rivals, Scout, Espn, or anyother service, but it must be fact if an 17 year old said it. Kids never like to emblish things like that.

I'm Tired Of Hearing How Sorry Our Recruiting Is From Someone
Dodge2007 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Believe me Old timer, I hope Dodge has the crystal ball on these kids he made early offers on. Dodge does have the midas touch, at least at the high school level, so hopefully it continues on his recruiting as well. -
Since I am a sanitation engineer, it might worse than trash. But " I have a dream." Don't kill my dream so early in the thread.
-
I will be there early drinking cocktails with the Doctor B and some of the Regents. Can't wait to see her belly all painted up.
-
Any kid is gonna look at multiple offers and decide what is best for them. All I am saying is that when you make an early offer and they snag it, you can't pull it back. Early offers are for the kids, imo, that multiple schools want. Lets face it, kids that consider UNT are strongly looking at the Big 12 first, C-USA second, and then other mid america conferences. There are some exceptions, that is for sure.
-
I could go on and on about Texas Prep and Rivals. MY WHOLE POINT was that I thought we could have waited until the end of the season to see who else blossoms on the kids who have NO offers at all at this time. A lot of our 11 verbals do not have offers. That was the only case I was making. You freakin guys get all ballsy when I speak the truth and get awful defensive. Leppo, Rucker, Barrett, Tomlin, Williams, and Taylor all have ONE offer, UNT. End of story.
