I would love to go. I was stationed at Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana from '89-93 & love Virginia Beach, not too far from Hampton Roads area. Would recommend it to anyone going to the game. Great vacation area, good views of fighter jets from Oceana.

AGREED. I live in the Austin area. TX State is a big school that offers an opportunity for local players that don't get recruited by big schools to play D-1 ball & for a good coach that's turning the program around. I would love to see more Central & South TX players play for UNT. That would be a good indication of our program's rising status. I live near where Dajon Wiliams played H.S., so I'm looking forward to seeing how he does.

Pedestrian Bridge - PAINT THE RUST GREEN!
UNT Alumni Lifer replied to greenblooded_gal's topic in Mean Green Football
Green would look fantastic. It's true - you do see certian areas along interstates where the overpasses are painted certain colors, but it's usually the concrete that's painted, not the steel. I understand their long-term need for the anti-corrosion steel, but green would look great. That IS a great pic (avatar)! -
UTSA Board: "UNT thinks they can beat the Sith Empire"
UNT Alumni Lifer replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
AGREED. I'm not much of a trash talker, especially when I don't actually play in the game - the players do. Trash talk looks pretty bad in hindsight if you lose. The "Sith Empire" is pretty funny though. I would love to beat UT, especially since I live in the Austin area, but I'm not counting on it considering both teams' history. Stranger things have happened, but I won't get excited until I see it.- 40 replies

I completely agree. Is it only me that thinks this team has a serious identity problem? I've mentioned this before regarding all the black. Here's the deal - Someone that's not that familiar with UNT tunes in to the bowl game. They see a team called the Mean Green, but they're wearing all black & have an eagle on their helmet. From an outsider's view, this has to look strange. We all like it because we know UNT, but these combos just don't fit. This was pretty obvious on other fans' boards making these comments. I think putting Mean Green out there as our official name was a bad choice. Should have stuck with the Eagles (since our logo is an eagle) & left Mean Green as a nickname. Like everyone else, I love the nickname, but I think it should have stayed as that. I believe that from a business/marketing standpoint all this does is confuse people. No consistency.

Can we raise money for a Scrappy redo?
UNT Alumni Lifer replied to shutter's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree - the new one is terrible! Brink back the old Scrappy! -
That was good. I have an idea for the negative Nancies - if you don't like the uniform threads, don't read them & don't comment. It really is that easy to do.

Agree here, but I think black should be thrown in as an accent since it is one of our colors, and since all other UNT sports teams use it in their unis. I also think the black looks killer with our color green. I think these problems can all boil down to our branding issue of "Mean Green" instead of our actual mascot, the Eagle. We have the SOW, our fight song says we're the Eagles, so why Mean Green? Hey, it's a great nickname & I love it, but when you call yourselves the Mean Green, you better be Mean (because it sounds stupid if you're not), & you better be Green.

I have to agree. Although I love the special occasion black uniforms, I think it looks stupid wearing all black when our team name says we are green. It doesn't make sense. I'm all for having black as a trim color, and it would make our uniforms look so much better than just plain green & white. I don't think we have the kind of winning tradition to pull in good recruits with such a boring looking uniform, like some other schools can do. Of course, winning can solve that issue, but why not throw a little extra pizzaz in our look to make more recruits want to come play here. Get rid of the rediculous "North Texas" on the helmets, put the SOW on it with maybe NT with the SOW, add some black accent to the unis, and we're done. Not sure why this is so difficult for the decision makers to realize we need this change.

Interesting, I didn't know the black & white were already colored & not painted. Either way, it looks odd not having any black in the uniforms to match the field. It's in our practice uniforms, and I believe every other UNT sports team uses black as a color. UNT even sells merchandise with black as a color. It would be nice to have some consistency with the rest of the sports teams. The end zones would look great in kelly green surrounding the black (in an attempt to actually match our uniform or school color).

TCU vs Tech..."Freshmen QB's Are Better Prepared"

Hilarious - My thought exactly! Unfortunately, I live in the Austin area & cannot drive up for the game, but would if I could. I consider any UNT alum that lives in the Denton & DFW very lucky to be close enough to attend regular games.

Those calls are hilarious! Kind of reminds me of Leslie Nielsen's umpiring in The Naked Gun. I'm not sure I've ever seen a more obvious "home field" call than that touchdown call.

ESPN Bowl Projections Week 2
UNT Alumni Lifer replied to UNT Mean Green's topic in Mean Green Football
Roger that. I guess I've heard that before & forgot about it. Hard to believe we would be in that bowl game unless we had a stellar season, but it would be KILLER & I'm all for it! -
ESPN Bowl Projections Week 2
UNT Alumni Lifer replied to UNT Mean Green's topic in Mean Green Football
Could this be a misprint? It says the game is for Big 10 vs Big 12. -
Bingo. College football is full of players that were stars in high school & duds at the next level. College football is a lot different game.

Just because he looks like #1 now & posssibly when the season starts, doesn't mean he'll necessarily stay that way.

We should probably acknowledge the Dunbar Fumble
UNT Alumni Lifer replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Hi everyone - new to the board. I'll try to post as often as I can, but 2 little kids at home keep me pretty occupied! Dunbar really showed his speed on that run. I just can't help but think this guy is gonna be a star.
