Littrel is getting a lot of hype because of how bad the team looked last year. I don't think Mac even got that much hype even after the 9 win season. Many were saying pump the brakes on the extention, while littrel is getting A's and B's? Mac's biggest downfall was QB. Other areas he brought on talent and coached players up. Littrel was brought in to improve the offense. So far, that is a bust. Ok, give him some time...I was really figuring a Littrell hire would translate to at least a 3 star QB prospect. If we had a 3 star QB this class, it would be so hype and enthusiastic around here. Even if he was a bust, at least it would look like we were on our way up. As of right now, Litrell looks like 6 to 7 wins is the ceiling until he can bring in a top QB. He could go to a bowl every other year and hang on to the job for about 6 years...maybe even longer...

Can you provide some examples for me. I know some have the same opinion, but other than QB, I can't seem to find any improvement in other areas. I'm really asking and not trying to be funny or sarcastic. Yes, I know we won more, but there's other things that can easily contribute to winning more games the following year such as younger players just being a year older, injuries to the other team, more favorable matchups, easier schedule. One example of on the field improvement I saw that led to the 9 win season was the upgrade at both corners with Buyers and James Jones. Another upgrade that year came in hiring Tommy Perry and almost all areas of special trams contributed. I didn't see anything like that last season. I saw better QB play than McNulty and the defense was not a bend don't break defense. That still does not equate to finding diamonds in the rough and coaching up talent. It just means they didn't suck as bad as mcnulty, chico, mac, and cosh.

Would have been a great selling point had it been at the main campus. Probably can't play sports and attend Frisco.

I'm old now, so I'm just throwing this out there. I would figure if UNT offered some sort of degree plan that caters to what these kids do, that could turn into a big selling point. I know UNT is big on Arts and Music, and I'm sure there's something similar, but if there was a major or minor that was really focused on today's rap music, video production, beat making, etc it could become a huge selling point. I know Rice had a class religion and hip hop taught by a local houston rapper. I'm talking about something even bigger. Yes, it will be a lot of kids wanting that degree and there's a huge risk they could come out and have to hustle for a job...but there's also other majors that fit that same category. I also know many athletes follow sports and majors like broadcasting should be marketed. Not just offered. MARKETED TO THE ATHLETES. TCU offers a sports broadcasting degree. UNT offers sports journalism. I would hope the coaches are selling that to kids who are undecided on majors. I would sound good to me. Another thing that TCU does is allow their football players to run track. UH also had success in the past with dual sports too. Some schools say they are good with it, but are really not once the kid gets on campus. UNT should really go after these kids that love both football and track and be serious about allowing the athlete to participate in both. At least we would know the high school track coach would be the recruits ear. I'm just throwing stuff out there, cause the coaching staff needs a whole lot more than what UNT is giving them to sell.

I was referring to me being the scrub selling the Alamodome...but I guess the same can be said for selling Apogee. I'm not discounting Apogee as a selling point, it's the UNT fans (and AD) that are sleeping on other schools selling points though. And let's just say since we both prefer Apogee over the Alamodome, do we like it enough to ignore the other aspects? Most CUSA schools are selling playing time to 3 star recruits. Most CUSA schools are selling that up and coming speech. UNT has a location advantage over UTEP and a conference advantage over TX State. Thats the only clear advantages out there for UNT. So we send Litrell out there with Apogee and the Denton, TX location and that's about it. It's not enough. Not even close.

Tulane, UNLV, Hawaii...man, we are talking about 17-19 year olds in the state of Texas. You really think a teenager is caring about reports of how Denton is a nice place to live? You are still thinking like a grown person and recruiting is a totally different mindset. You may be right. UTSA probably would prefer a stadium on campus. But a good salesman can still sell the Alamodome to recruits. Alamodome has some history and still holds events for the State playoffs. Didn't Notre Dame play Army there this year? Don't they have a bowl played there? Playing in the Alamodome, the weather is not an issue. It can mean nothing to you, but that can be a selling point. Especially if I were recruiting a QB. It gets real cold up there in North Texas...you like playing on 100+ degree football field? My point is Apogee isn't some huge advantage over the Alamodome like some are making it out to be. The right salesman can actually make it an advantage, and if some regular scrub on a message board can bring up good points about it, I know a good recruiter/salesman can.

UNT does not lose the facility battle in YOUR eyes. In MY eyes...in UNT FANS eyes. Too bad the recruiting game involves teenage kids. I even know a few UNT football players that were excited about playing in that thing. I also think selling San Antonio TO A 17-18 YEAR OLD is much easier than selling Denton. San Antonio is not high on the list of US destination cities...but it's on the list though...it's a selling point. Denton is not. I'm sorry. If the athletic department follows the same thought process of many fans (and it sure seems like it does) and they think Denton and Apogee is some huge advantage, they will continue to lose battles and continue to keep sending their coaches out there to recruit with a disadvantage. I do agree that Wilson would have done a better job than this current staff...his look is a recruiting advantage...NOT THE ONLY REASON, but an advantage...I won't go any further on that point...

I want to agree, but UTSA has some intangibles that many UNT fans dismiss. San Antonio is a well known city compared to Denton. No matter what sone on here personally think about San Antonio, it has more to sell than Denton. Many on here also think that Apogee is a great advantage. Yes, apogee is a nice stadium...Once you visit...that's the key. You have to get kids to visit to even capitalize on how nice it is. UTSA has the Alamodome. I was not impressed with it since I have been in several NFL domed stadiums. But to a 17 year old kid who hasn't been to many places, that ragedy sradium could look awesome. The Alamo dome is a help in recruiting and if marketed right, like playing indoors, can become a big plus. UTSA has a great schedule. UH, Texas State, Arizona, Baylor...

The future schedule is a big part of the recruiting presentation.

So you want me to give him credit for actually coaching. All that you described is part of the job description. It's managing talent and working with what you have. At any given time a team has to adjust in a sport like football. A player can go down at any time and adjusts have to be quick and sometimes in the middle of a game. Seems like we became so used to seeing the same ole thing over and over, that we are giving extra credit for someone finally doing some thing different from time to time and actually coaching.

Littrel took 5 win talent and got 5 wins out of it. That deserves a C+ to a B-. Yeah we only win 1 game last year, but it was still 5 win talent and that is why the coaches are gone. He should not be any higher just because the previous staff was real bad. Stop comparing UNT to UNT. We keep comparing UNT poor coaches to previous poor coaches instead of the rest of college football. We won the games we were supposed to. In my opinion, the most impressive win was at Army. As far as improvement in play, the only major improvement I saw was at QB. Everything else seem to be the same. I'm not seeing the littrel got more out of the same players thing some are seeing with the exception at QB.

I have watched this team for 5 years. Two of those years they went bowling without a great QB. In 2013 the defense was dominant and this year they were good enough to beat teams they were supposed to. It would be great to land a great QB and have a solid team top to bottom, but it seems more realistic to predict and expect something that has already worked with this team in the past. Get the defense right. Stop the run and we will at least be competitive. To compete for CUSA titles we will still need to recruit a top QB eventually.

I feel English (or some DL out of nowhere) has to be the key that get this team to the next level. We could also use a major upgrade at LB, but this defense needs to sure up the middle and be able to stop the run without the help of the whole secondary pitching in. We do a lot of questionable coverages with our secondary, and many times they get beat and are out of position. This is due to the fact that they have to watch the run and pass so much. If this secondary was allowed to concentrate on stopping the pass more, it could be a shutdown secondary. Too many times we need both safeties and even the nickel to watch what is coming out of the backfield on RUNS and passes. If English could be a dominant force in the middle, it would make the defense a whole lot better. And a good defense is going to have you in every game.

Or maybe they like 100 yard KOS and 75 yard punt returns for TDs. You try to act like you are some sort of analyst, but you have underlying hate.

I won't go into details, but UNT has to step up identifying injuries, preventing injuries with a staff that can stretch these guys out, and better rehab. It seems as if the bigger programs have more resources and more staff.

If we are including scheme and playcalling I agree, but we still had issues from a unit/group standpoint with our linebackers. Safety also could have played better. McClain was steady, but Gray did not improve and probably took a step back. I also know we had injuries at safety and linebacker but it seemed that some of the backups actually should have played more.

Agreed. The post was who did the best job "with his unit" Harrell's playcalling should not factor in. I actually saw 2 different QBs improve from game to game. Compared to the previous coach, huge difference.

I assume you went with Nate Brown mailbox since that was the first one choosen. Wonder what the logic was behind that choice. The increased interceptions must be the main reason. He would have been my absolute last choice due to technique issues with the corners. They all had issues looking back for the ball and that should have been corrected by the position coach. Was there really much improvement from this year to last with the corners? The overall scheme was better and there was more experience. My choice may be criticized though...I know his play calling was suspect, but I picked Harrell as far as position coach. He had to deal with the least experience and had to work with two different styles. Compared to what we had last year, I think he did a good job. Probably the biggest area of upgrade from last year.

Overall, I liked the way the game was coached, but there were still some things they could have done a lot better. It has been mentioned earlier this season, but the inability to get 1 or 2 yards lining up under center. Trying to get a yard or 2 in the shotgun will continue to haunt this team in the future, if they continue this. And morris is a big QB that can QB sneak. Should have at least been added for him. Didn't like the defense. They were able to get stops in the second half, but that was only due to army being predictable. We should have brought 1 saftey up occasionally to help out, or even added an extra guy on the line. Don't just sit there and watch this predictable offense continue to get 4 or 5 yards on 1st down. Do something.

Scott will have to get a lot faster. He's strong, but he is going to have to show a lot more speed and quickness in the drills than he has in games.
