  1. This.
  2. This. The biggest drop off from 2013 to last season was LB. Trice and Lee would have looked similar if they had played with the LBs from last season. From an athletic standpoint, gray and mcclain are probably better. Now just get some NFL quality LBs in front of them...well not even NFL quality. I'm being greedy. Just some solid D1 starters for now.
  3. I think the #32 he was referring to was Fred Scott.
  4. thanks for the details. I know there's a possibility 34DT may not play, but we cant have two 34s on defense. I see we have a Schilleci sighting...Maybe he's coming for that nickel spot. Was 19 at nickel? If not, who was? I thought we would hear more about 81 Khan...
  5. Props to Vito for trying to help a player get some exposure and fulfill a dream. I don't know the whole history of Vito and UNT. I have some issues with some of his stuff, but the AD and coaches just doesn't give him much to work with and it is obvious. Cant be a good beat writer without cooperation.
  6. It seems as if this coaching staff is looking at the talent and identifying the leaders on the team...even before the pads have come on and a down of football has been played. Bryce English has been very vocal and was immediately identified as a leader. Morris came in a started working with the first team, so Smith left. Some will say this can be a bad thing, and in a way, it can if the player cannot perform. But this coaching staff look like it approaches things differently. If you have talent, it's up to us as a coaching staff to develop what you have. The whole "Tee it up" thing has already put Goree out there as a leader. He has the physical skills. Litrell and Co has a lot more confidence in their ability to coach players up. Ekeler even made a comment about recruiting being overrated or something. I like the confidence. We will see...
  7. Goree's statement says a lot. He just didn't come out and say a generic statement that Morris was a leader, he did a comparison. He pretty much said Morris showed more leadership than the QBs from last year. He didn't have to mention last years QBs, but he did.
  8. Thanks silver. I look forward to what your assessment. There's too many opinions on here based on what happened at UNT years ago, or what happened with the last coaching staff. Lots of opinions based on irrelevant things instead of actually watching the player. There's no guarantee we will be good, but if you are going to come on here and predict failure, can it be based on something physical and football related. A physical flaw that will prevent this player from being able to perform. Just because you have never seen a player play does not mean he cannot play. Several on here says we have no talent for next year. How do you know? Have you been to practices? Have you seen footage? What is this based on? Cause they didn't play for Mac and Chico? Cause they didn't perform well in a lame defense? I haven't seen a lot of these guys, but from what I have seen from goree, wilson, and ivery, they definetly have talent. I think some on here mean to say they lack EXPERIENCE. I'm not going to do the opposite and assume these guys will be good either. This is a totally new situation, and it's a wait and see approach for me. This coaching staff is doing things almost the exact opposite of Mac and Co, so basing anything on what they did is not relevant in a lot of cases.
  9. Thinking about this question with no bias is hard. I know UNT wouldn't be at the top if I were an up and coming young coach. Too much competition for recruits in Texas and the other schools have bigger followings, more money committed to athletics, and are in better conferences. Before the financial issues in louisiana, I would have said La Tech. Access to top athletes and not much comp in the state once you LSU decides who they want. From a recruiting standpoint, the Florida schools would probably be high on the list also.
  10. Good stuff. Very informative. I also checked out the periscope videos and noticed a lot of things. Looks like the 10 yard cushion for dbs is a thing of the past. I'm consistently seeing 5 yards or less. Also saw them working on pass rush and heard the coach specifically talking about blitzing. Now we get to see if this team has "talent" or not. I think the defense is going to be a pleasant surprise. with blitzing and tight man coverage, I still expect them to give up big plays, but with more aggression, I expect them to make more big, game changing plays too. We played a safe, bend don't break defense over the last 4 years, and still wound up giving up big plays anyway.
  11. Opening with a bye week is worse. If we had a normal circumstance where you play a tune up opponent like an idaho, and then play SMU the following week, it could have resulted into 2 wins and a little momentum...flip side of that is if we won a few more games, Mac and Co would still be coaching, so I guess it may work out in the end.
  12. My sleeper picks are Syd Moore on defense since patrick is gone, and Kidsy on offense since it seems like he still has a shot to play.
  13. At least there's some trying to actually discuss FOOTBALL on this forum.
  14. I also think finney should shine. Had a fumble recovery against iowa, almost had a pick 6 vs tennessee, and would have most likely been player of the game against UTEP, if the game wasn't just given away by the coaching staff. He forced two fumbles and returned one for a TD. He has shown glimpses that he can play. Needs to come in 2016 in better shape too.
  15. Does Dillman even want to play QB? Maybe he's bought into TE.
  16. So 2 totally different coaching staffs had issues with DSmith and his preparation and dedication...he just doesn't have it.
  17. I guess I have to wait an hour to respond to this...
  18. Finney made some big plays in the UTEP game. Forced a fumble early, and recovered one and ran it in. Also recovered a fumble vs iowa...almost had a pick 6 against Tennessee...he showed some flashes. I didn't realize he played enough to get 42 tackles. Hopefully he shows up in better shape for his senior year. He can probably gain a step if he gets rid of that gut. If Fred Scott can just concentrate on stopping the run, he could finish with a nice senior season. He is strong, but just don't put him in coverage or in too much space. The JUCO LB William johnson was mentioned in Athlons JUCO player to watch. Not to 25, but listed in others to watch...but he won't be here in the Spring...
  19. What's your point? What are you adding to the forum/convo? Are they wasting their time? Are they stupid for trying? We saw that the rule was in place. Obviously there is also an appeal process in place. We know, because English said on a video that they were trying to get him to play in 2016. I would assume the NCAA didn't respond that there was a rule in place for that situation so get lost, because he would have known about the rejection immediately. There wouldn't be any waiting or consideration. For some reason, an appeal was sent and is being considered. Thats all we know. It's not a yes. It's not a no.
  20. If he graduates, he can transfer. He's been at UNT 4 years, so he could have enough hours.
  21. Thought we went through this...maybe you should reach out to Litrell and English and tell them to give up. There's some people that give up, and some that try and have to be told no.
  22. I agree...could also be a reason wallace left? Like someone posted...why would a potential starter quit? Wallace has been around long enough to graduate, but still...new coaching, opportunity to start...
  23. I wouldnt count him out either...I'm hearing Its looking like he will play, but the source is kinda weak at times. he also indicated on twitter that he is ready for the spring game. Doesn't confirm that he will play this season, but it sounds like someone that is preparing to play.
  24. So Miss has been referenced several times on this board as if that's the only way we can turn this thing around in one season. There's several examples over the years where one of the worst teams in the league made the jump to 6 wins or more. Is not impossible like some are claiming...And this is only G5. 2013: UNLV 2 wins to 6...Tulane 2 wins to 7...S alabama 2 wins to 6... 2014: Temple 2 wins to 6...UTEP 2 wins to 7...W Michigan 1 win to 8...memphis 3 wins to 10 2015: Tulsa 2 to 6...UCONN 2 to 6...ga state 1 to 6 So based on this trend over the last 3 seasons, 3 G5 teams will make the jump from being bottom of the NCAA to bowl eligible. Whether Littrell and staff can coach and get UNT to be one of those teams is the question.
