I guess we weren't watching the same game. Yeah, where were you. Coleman got hammered all night. On one of his turnovers, he went high for the ball and got a forearm across the back, knocked him forward and the ball went off his finger tips. No call. The refs don't call enough fouls. FIU grabbed Jordan on a long rebound to stop a breakaway. No call. Jay Bilas did a piece on ESPN's sat morning pregame show on how the rough play is ruining the game. College bb is on apace to have the lowest scoring season since 1952. This is the biggest change in bb since i have been watching (1950s). It doesn't look like the same game. The artistry is gone; it's muscle and banging.

Going to the game today. I will see a group of talented athletes, good students play their hearts out in a game that matters in the west division. FIU has a winning record, the leading scorer in the SB, and we barely beat them 70-68 at their place. I am expecting a good game, fun to watch. Then I will stay for the men's game. I think they have a chance for a win. I know they will play hard. I wouldn't miss it because then i would be missing one game of their career at NT, and i want to remember them.

The you refer to is "the snake pit" correct? Correct. The opposing coaches and players named it the pit. Our administration took the name and modified it to the super pit. The magic just couldn't be transferred. We drew good crowds for the first few years, but they fell off pretty quickly after some bad years. The all-time top for attendance was set in Blakeley's first year, about 5500. The old pit seated 4500. We haven't averaged 4000 until last year. I say our building is not the pit and it is not super.
-
The attendance was about 3500 in the box score, looked more like 2000-2500 to me. There seems to be fewer an fewer students at games, maybe 500 at WKU. When i was in school (60s) we filled the pit, even with bad teams. One year we won 3 games. The games started at 8:00 then, my friends and i would get there before 7 for a good seat in the lower level. It would fill by 7:15-7:30. They don't come now and they didn't come when Johnny was here. We put 2500 in 10,000 seat arena and there is no excitement. We never filled Fouts, can't fill Apogee. That hurts recruiting in football and BB. We get what we deserve.

Know how to stop underage drinking? Lower the drinking age to 18 like it was in the 70s and 80s. Name one other thing where the legal age is 21. You can sign contracts, you can get a home loan, you can get a credit card, you can get married, you can serve in the armed forces, you can die for your country. Are they adults or children when they are over 18 but under 21? Society needs to make up its mind.

Alexis Hyder Wins SB Player of the Week
Eagle61 replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Alexis is a great example of this program. Good kids, good coach, entertaining team, competing for the west division title. Everything we want UNT sports to be. Twelve of the 15 on the team made a 3.0 GPA or better. Great job Mike Petersen and Rick. And we have only 3 posts. Nothing to bitch about here. -
Jacob Holmen and Justin Patton say goodbye
Eagle61 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
These two are examples of the reason I buy season tickets and belong to the MGC. It doesn't matter who sits in the coach's seat, I am going to be there. To miss a game would be to miss some of their career. To them: Thanks for the memories, and success in life. You didn't waste any of my time. The "let it go" bit is promoting adoption. You don't have to be perfect to be an adoptive parent. -
North Texas All-Century Football Team
Eagle61 replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
WR- Shanklin RB- Bobby Smith (played for Buffalo mid sixties) I had forgot about Bernard Jackson. The Denton police never solved his murder, no arrests made. I think he was leading the NCAA in rushing at the time. He was shot outside a club just south of the campus (where Chase bank, Subway are now) -
Iowa state had the same situation against no. 1 Kansas- same result. A loss. I will take the ball out with a 1 point lead and 3-4 sec left.

I was screaming "foul, foul" damm damm.

We are the Washington Generals

The game is on the MG premium internet. So far, the quality of these transmissions has been horrible, sound out of sync with the pic, loud humm on another, hurky- jerky motion. I won't be getting it next year.

During Shanice Stevens's last year, I sat behind Jasimine Godboldt's family at the games. I talked to them several times about the train wreck on the court. I think her dad went to Rick, because he told me at Hot Springs that Stevens would not be back. Jasimine was a soph all-conference player and looked upon as the future of the team. Results: Ashton was good, Petersen may be better. Maybe something like that will happen on the men's side.

Where the top players in the Dallas area are coming from
Eagle61 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
UNT was not mentioned as a choice of any of the top 100 area recruits as compiled by the DMN. I scan this list every year; sometimes we get consideration from 1, usually 0. I think kids wanting to get away from home is a factor. Maybe we would do better concentrating on Houston area recruits. But really, I think we have to develop talent or find the hidden gem. -
Lsu beats no. 17 Missouri. Wonder how Jon Burkett feels about the game.

The dancers are a real treasure, but they do too many "strip club" moves (a friend told me what a strip club move was) especially the "titty shake". They need to lose that and the bump and grind. They are too good for that. They do get my attention.

2012 still had mainly Dodge's personnel footprint
Eagle61 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
You are all wrong. It is Bush's fault. So is the basketball program, and the campus parking, and the tuition problem, and the bad food around campus. -
I am driving in from Little Rock for the game tomorrow
Eagle61 replied to Insideualr's topic in Mean Green Basketball
You are probably right. It has been about three years since i was there and i live only a mile away. -
I am driving in from Little Rock for the game tomorrow
Eagle61 replied to Insideualr's topic in Mean Green Basketball
When you take north texas boulevard to the pit, take a right at the ihop, there is a strip center at the end of this street, 2 short blocks. There are several places to eat that are not "standard" places. There is aplace that specializes in burritos, hooyah. Panchos mexican buffet is on the right end. I think it is pretty good, mexican is hard to screw up, subway and a chicken place also. There is a chinese place also, another across the street. None of these are "fern bar" types. You aren't paying for atmosphere and you don't get it. Enjoy. Hope you make it in time for the women's game. A ticket to the men's game gets you in both. The pit seats 10,000, there will be about 800 - 1000 for the women's game, maybe 3500 at men's. Sit anywhere. You might have to move if a season ticket holder comes in, but you can usually move a few seats away with no problem. Sections 106, 107, 108, 109 have some seats in the first 3-4 rows if you want close. 107 is mid court -
Outside The Box: His YouTube Expansion Ideas For Apogee!

You will have to dome the whole thing. Global warming will have taken afternoon temperatures to 130 degrees. At 90,000, will the cowboys be the other occupant? Or would that be a Denton NFL team? I am assuming this will happen about 2075. -
C-USA Unveils Basketball 2013-14=No Divisions

I hope i can avoid being kidnaped or other violence in El Paso. Too near Mexico, the Somilia of the west I suppose the food will be good I am going to miss HS. -
Irony -- yes, I misspelled misspell. I wasn't sure so I thought I would cover both bases. Actually a typo, I noticed it as soon as I hit post. On the global warming thing, I am not a denier at all, but one fact is that 5000 years ago all the glaciers in North America melted; 4000 years ago they re-froze. So we had some real warming starting about 5000 years ago, followed by the current climate (approx.) 1000 years later. What caused the warming then? I saw this on "Geologic Journey" on the Discovery channel. It was in an interview with a couple of guys from the USGS. They offered no explanation. We are currently ending a 25,000 year cycle of ice ages, due to start another soon, from a geologic time standpoint. So the warming gasses we put in the atmosphere may save our butts when the factors for an ice age line up. It could be another 1000 years, but it is coming. The earth won't support 6-8 billion people if the ice cap extends to Kansas. Ice ages are caused by three things that we know: The tilt or wobble of the earth, orbit around the sun, and the output of the sun. A 1000 years might be enough to get our congress to do something.

I have enjoyed the jokes on this topic; after all religion is one big joke. I have gained a new respect for this site; some very thoughtful people on here. Now if we could just stop the sniping at each other. And I misspelled "surprising" on my earlier post. Which is surprising to me because I have taken a swipe at people for their mispellings here. But, that said, if you examine any religion closely, you will see that they are all hoaxes. You will come closer to getting water to run uphill, or someone to walk on water, or part the Red Sea, or a flood to cover the earth and so on and so on.

I came to NTSU as a baptist and left an atheist. My degree is in Chemistry and I don't see how any good scientist can believe in any religion. I have many Christian friends and they know how I feel, but we just don't talk about it. I wonder why they don't ever analyze the things that you have to believe to believe in the bible. I thought then that by the time I was this old (70) most of the nation would be atheist because of the rising education level and that the population would become smarter, but just the opposite has happened. There was a recent article in the DRC about an exchange student from Belguim. She was asked what the most suprising thing she had found about the US; she said how everyone talked about god so much. When I was in high school, we NEVER talked about religion. Some Mormons came by my apt when I was in my first year of grad school and I realized that religion was a hoax. See Julia Sweeney's "Letting go of God" on youtube. It is a similar experience and a very good video, originally on HBO.
