  1. I'd have to disagree with you on that. Omar is by far the best QB in the state, JP just gets more hype because he plays for Alabama. You put Omar on the Crimson Tide roster and he is all over sports center and sports illustrated. Omar has throw for almost 2000 yards already this season, he is on his way to 3000 easy before the end of the year.
  2. Good win for the Blue Raiders, but they just don't have enough talent. I personally am looking forward to their trip down to Troy. After all the smack they have been talking on our boards it will be nice to show them why TROY is the best team in the Belt, and once again why WE own the Palladium trophy! GO TROJANS!
  3. While he may not win the trophy, a good showing in the fan vote could definitely do a lot for the 'Belt. That is why I initially came here and asked for your votes, if the SBC schools pull together we can achieve a lot. The biggest problem facing us is the fact we aren't as you pointed out a BCS conference, and thus do not get the publicity. IMO, if Omar were at lets say Michigan he would be on the cover of Sport Illustrated. The best way for belt schools to get their players names out there is for all the belt fans to help one another out..you scratch my back i'll scratch yours. If the fans would put aside rivalries and actually adhere to this game plan we could all have a player or two in the spotlight each year. So I go back to my original request, please vote for Omar. I'd like him to pass ASU's Corey Leonard, who is obviously not as deserving of the award as Omar. He is only where he is because his fans are voting fanatics. Two Belt QBs in the running would say something about the quality of quarterbacks in our league. GO BELT!
  4. PHSCoach, I'm sorry but I am going to have to disagree with you. FAU does have the speed to match up on us, but they DO NOT have the better secondary. Troy's Leodis McKelvin is an All-American candidate leading the nation in punt return yardage and touchdowns, and is a lock down corner. He held Calvin Johnson to 2 catches for 9 yards last season and kept Jarrett Dillard out of the offensive production for Rice in the N.O. Bowl. He has had a great year this year and looks to continue the trend of outstanding play. Elbert Mack anchors the opposite side, a speedy athletic defender not afraid to hit. If it weren't for McKelvin, Mack would be the number one 'back, he has all the intangibles to play at the next level so he choose. Best of luck to any receivers who have to play against these two, no one in the Belt has been able to do much against them in the past two seasons.
  5. I would like to thank all of the Mean Green faithful who made the trip to Troy. Despite the lop-sided score, I hope you all had an enjoyable trip to Dixie. I was very disappointed in the student section fire drill at half-time, mostly because of the misconception I knew visitors would take away from the game. We, the students, do not normally clear out like that and I was very embarrassed at the showing. Once again, thank you all very much for visiting us and I look forward to returning the gesture next year when I make my way to Denton. Now that you have seen Omar, do you think he is worthy of the Davey O'Brien? Ignore the interceptions...if you can, lol. He did not play his best game, but I think just seeing his speed and abilities with the football might persuade you he is a high quality QB. For those of you who have been voting for him in the O'Brien thank you very much, for those who haven't been I encourage you to do so. I feel Omar is much more deserving than ASU's Corey Leonard. Thank guys, and Go 'Belt!
  6. Man it sure is weird to hear people refer to us as "the class" of the Sun Belt. When I got here in 2003 Troy was nothing spectacular in football...although we did beat and then very good Marshall program. That was our signature win to date, of course beating #17 Missouri quickly replaced it. Anyways, I was just going to tell you all a little bit more about this weekend's atmosphere. If you get in town friday, the Troy soccer team is hosting "The biggest soccer tailgate in America" at 1 pm. There will be music, food, activities, and of course our ladies will be hosting FIU. Please come by if your in town, game starts at 3. The soccer stadium is over by the football stadium and the on campus gold course. The theme of our homecoming is Trojans Never Die, and is a James Bond rip-off. The game day shirts are pretty funny. They have Hector holding an eagle upside down over a pot. Says, "Eat Your Greens." It's funny, and if you want one for some reason they are $10 at the game. I look forward to seeing you all, please feel free to roam the quad and say hey to the Delta Chi's...thats where I will be.
  7. No, I am not planning on posting on their board. I have no idea how they put up so many votes, but their QB is definitely not as worthy of the award as Omar is. Regardless, having TWO Belt quarterbacks ranked that high would be that much better. Good luck this weekend guys, and I hope all of you who visit enjoy your time in Troy. Here's to a game with no injuries and good sportsmanship!
  8. Hello all, first of all thank you very much for taking the time to read this. As I'm sure you all are already aware, Troy QB Omar Haugabook is up for the Davey O'Brien Award for this year. I think this is a very important step, not only for Troy, but for the Sun Belt Conference as a whole. The SBC has been putting quality players in the NFL for a while now, and people are taking notice. Omar's consideration for this award is another brick in the path the Sun Belt has began to build to greatness. I am here to ask you, the Mean Green faithful, to consider helping the Trojan nation get Omar into the top three of the fan vote category of the award. The top three on this list are automatically added to the semi-finalist list at the end of the season. Haugabook is currently 9th on the list out of 119, and with our combined efforts he could quickly move up the list. I understand that you have a freshman QB who is looking very promising, perhaps we could work something out when it is his time to shine. I'm sure that if UNT fans showed support for our candidate this year, Troy fans would return the favor when the Mean Green had someone in a similar position. Thank you very much for reading, and I hope our two fan bases can work together now and in the future to ensure Sun Belt players have the opportunity to flourish in the national spotlight. Greg P.S. If you do decide to vote, please remember to do so as often as possible. Each registered email can vote once every 24 hours. http://www.daveyobrien.com/FAN/FanRegisterationAT.aspx
  9. Hey, you should feel lucky you didn't go to Florida. Their fans are very rude and several of my friends were treated very badly because they were wearing cardinal and black. Only place that is worse is LSU.
  10. The area your map shows as UNT tailgating looks like it will be competing with our Alumni tailgating area near the National Guard Armory. Might want to check on that because I think that area will be swarming with old fogies in cardinal and black.
  11. Hey guys, just wanted to drop in and tell you all a little about what to expect from the Troy game day atmosphere. Troy students always tailgate on Shackelford Quad (the residential quad near the baseball stadium). Greek organizations will have tents set up and will be grilling and drinking out there before kick off. Other tailgaters line University Avenue and the whole campus is one big outdoor party. A couple hours before kick off the Sound of the South marches down University and fans line the street to watch the performance as they make their way to the stadium. 2 hours prior to kick off we have Trojan Walk, as the players make their way to the stadium. Tailgating at Troy is a big deal, partially because it's a small town and there's nothing else to do, but mostly because football is EVERYTHING at Troy and we love getting out there and getting ready, lol. Watch out for the visibly drunk kids, they might be rude (probably the same way at UNT). Just ignore them, it's isolated and NOT what Troy is about. If your looking for a good place to eat in town I recommend Buffalo Jack's, its a sports bar with good wings, a full bar (sorry no draft in Pike County though), and plasma screens at every table. The Double Branch is the best bar in town, it's right on 231 (the main road through town). Three different bars within, usually 2 bands playing at the same time and has an outdoor bar in the back. It has a green sign that says DB in white, can't miss it. If you need tailgating supplies Wal-Mart is just down 231 headed towards Dothan. Please feel free to come and experience all that Troy has to offer, we love sharing our traditions with our fellow Sun Belt brethren. Expect to see plenty of construction going on on campus. The baseball stadium is undergoing upgrades that will include artificial turf, ESPN quality lighting, a green monster in right field that will house an HD replay board, new two story home dugout complex, and party decks for students in left field. Also, we are building a new state of the art Education building right across from Shack Quad. If you get a chance please tour the campus and look around, we are very proud of the grounds and I'd love for you all to see the place that has meant so much to me during my college career. Thanks for reading and I hope your trip to Troy is an enjoyable one that you will want to revisit over and over. Go Troy!
