MGB: McCarney says there is no such thing as a "gamer"
MeanGreenD replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
BS? Really Dan? BS!? What you feed to us is BS. What we're subjected to week in and week out is BS. SMU, Rice, Southern Miss all "great teams" that is BS! -
McCarney says UNT’s sticking with McNulty
MeanGreenD replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
If only he could look in mirror and say the same things about himself: “I was really disappointed in the consistency of myself when North Texas gave me an opportunity. I do have passion, but the attention to recruiting is something I need to make major, major improvements on. If I do, then we have a chance to contend for the top spot in CUSA. If I don’t, we will get what we saw every year outside of 2013.” -
I was a little weary of this hire when it happened. I didn't know much about Chris Cosh except that Maryland fans didn't seem too fond of him, USF fans didn't seem too fond of him, K-State fans didn't seem too fond of him... Those fans were frustrated by his "bend don't break" style, which MG fans have referred to it as. They criticized corners playing 7+ yards off receivers, which MG fans have done. Doubted his ability to make in game adjustments. All according to old forum posts during his time at one place or another. In 1997, he was at Maryland, then in 1998 he is Nick Saban's DC at Michigan St. for a year then for some reason goes to South Carolina to be LB coach. After a few years there, becoming DC (interim?) in the 2003 season, he goes to K-State to become LB coach. 2006, he is back at Maryland as DC/LB coach. 3 seasons there and then he's off to K-State for a few years before going to USF for one season as DC, then Buffalo, now here. One way or another, something tells me this guy won't be here too long. I personally think KP would have been better to promote to DC from within, but what do I know

I've got another, "Mean" Joe Greene played for both teams

Yes, but if they want to give him another year of eligibility, I'm all for it!

@EagleTime I think you are misunderstanding Mr. @Quoner's post. What we just "endured" was our coach, QB, and others in AD returning home to Iowa. We got to hear all about their glory days in Iowa City and how great Iowa (of all places) is. That is the slap-assery and memories and those are who he meant by "people". Not our fans, our coach, QB and other Iowans. Now, we have another homecoming for our Athletic Director, his marketing guy, and his marketing guy's marketing guy. There's a whole branch of the organizational chart that is from USM. Those are the people he would like stories of for the slideshow. I'm sure your fans are great, I would love to be there myself to get a feel of your tailgating environment.

you must not be aware of Rick Villarreal's love of Southern Miss & Jimmy John's

Ricky V is, he wouldn't miss this one for all the Jimmy John's in the world

Official Southern Miss Score Prediction Thread

“I tell every freshman at orientation that if you cut me open, I bleed black and gold,” Villarreal said. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/unt-mean-green/20131025-unt-athletic-director-villarreal-has-personal-professional-ties-to-hattiesburg-southern-miss.ece My prediction is Rick will celebrate his victory with a "free pickle bucket with purchase of large platter" at Jimmy John's in Hattiesburg. http://www.southernmiss.com/eagle-club/eagle-club-card-businesses.html -

USM - 41 UNT - 17 If DaMarcus Smith were starting I'd go with: UNT-31 USM-30 -
But....but...he said he knew what it looked like and that's a top 25 team. But seriously, I agree with you. They might sneak in there next week IF they win in Wisconsin. I see the Badgers getting the W and Iowa getting 1 top 25 vote next week.

DRC Monday column: Time has arrived to give Smith a shot
MeanGreenD replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
It appears we may have the only coach in America that is the exception to that rule. -
That's a top 25 team right there. http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings Well, maybe next week? At least we all know where 1 of the 44 votes came from

After the first game, Mini-Mac was at the bottom. After a couple of more games, I would thought I would check-in to see where he stood. Well, he's no longer the worst statistically speaking. That belongs to a freshman QB Bo Schneider (from Dallas) at UCF who replaced an injured Justin Holman who was their starting QB. In his three games ever at the collegiate level, 2 of his 3 starts were @Stanford and @South Carolina. If it wasn't for the 93 yard TD against Rice, Bo Schneider would have a high QBR than McNulty, against 2 power 5 teams. His completion percentage is also above 50%... http://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics/player/_/stat/passing/sort/collegeQuarterbackRating/count/121

When asked about the performance of the backup QBs, Coach Mac said "Neither one was sensational" I almost threw my PC across the room! Never criticize McNulty and lay blame around all the other factors. However, Smith "wasn't sensational" on his 1 pass attempt on a 3rd & long from the shadow of his own end zone in a 62-16 game after 2 consecutive run plays were called. I'm with @emmitt01 on those conspiracy theories he laid out in another thread...

Refs also helped Iona in this one. Also, I saw numerous court violations by their bench. All of which went unnoticed by the officiating crew. They really killed our early momentum with all the whistles...IMO

Thanks for clearing that up for me, should've just hit rewind

Did Carlos Harris ask several players their favorite part about playing football and their answers were "sleep"? Serious question, I didn't hear the exact wording of the question, but I heard "sleep", "sleep", "sleep".... That's a bad look...especially when you're playing games where you look asleep at kickoff.

During the USM game, when each cheerleader was accompanied by 2 little cheerleaders, 2 of whom were handicapped. They were so cute, so spirited, and yet they cheered in front of a lifeless crowd who couldn't be bothered to chime in with a "Go Mean Green" or even applaud their efforts.

I'm drinking several beers. I'm not worried about validation. I'm worried about a pathetic crowd, it's a problem. A huge problem. A monumental problem. And it's alright, dude. -

I feel bad for this kid, he never knew wearing a Gator on his head would make him look foolish. Poor guy, hopefully he doesn't post this pic on GoGators.com
