  1. Fair enough, I agree, tbh, I guess technically the 70s teams were better...albeit Mac currently has a better record over three years here than Fry did. I think at the very least the 70s teams and this team are deserving of this consideration of being the "best" UNT teams.
  2. No way the 2002 defense was better than this years. Our second half defense was unbelievable. Also, the '13 team had wins against very good teams too, such as Rice, Ball State and MTSU. Works both ways. Two ten win teams. I think this was the best team ever fielded at NT. Statistically it is. Our end of the season ranking was as high as we've been since the 70s. Sorry to the DD groupies. Just the facts.
  3. And you're more mature because you run to GMG.com to prematurely rant and act immature as well? Glad I could start my day off with a good chuckle.
  4. What's even worse here is how this will affect recruiting. 3-stars heading to lower tier schools like us are not going to come here when they can get paid at a big school to ride the pine.
  5. I'd be very surprised if he's going there. But if he does, good luck to him. That's a great place to coach FCS. Then he can come back when Mac leaves. Not sure SHSU will pay him more than he makes here but that HC title has to be alluring.
  6. Look at ULL, though. Not sure that a big bowl attendance means we will magically be selling out every game.
  7. I agree with the UTSA discussion. That's why I think we should just accept the rivalry. They remind me a lot of USF. While I'm not sold on them next year because Soza was the whole team, that's a team that can move up fast and quick. Also, the support has been GOOD, but not THAT good. They traveled less than UTEP and UH, but had their band and were spread out. They love to tout their attendance numbers, but most of their big attendance games are ones that have P5 schools or Texas State. Oklahoma State brought 40% of that crowd. The usual conference game is around 25K in a dome. While I'd never trade the """"Dome"""" for Apogee, they also don't have weather issues. Like it or not, the weather killed the UTSA attendance. It's a really good combination. But when UTSA needed a big turnout for their final game, 25,000 came. That's where they're at and that's where we're at. I think we will be consistently around the same attendance next year (25K) but we do not have those big marquee opponents to inflate UTSA's average. The discussion of UTSA's fan support is only marginally better than ours--but here's the reason it seems like SA has embraced UTSA...they have excellent season ticket numbers but pitiful student turnout. We have the opposite. The people who travel and discuss college football in a more statewide fashion are not students. Hell, a good chunk of UTSA's fanbase aren't even people associated with the school at all. They just want San Antonio football. We need to be Denton's Team. Gainesville's Team. Aubrey's Team. Krum's Team. Justin's Team. Etc. We have too much competition in DFW and Denton is not centrally located like the Dome. The T-shirt fans bought TCU season tickets already and don't go considering TCU gets 40+ announced but like 20 in seats. We need to convert those T-shirt fans. I think alumni and students are ready to embrace this team, we need the cities. UTSA has that and no competition. We don't. I'm not sure we'll ever be a school selling out every game and I'm fine with that. If our turnouts are like UH, UCF or whatever that's cool. To keep UTSA from passing us, it's simple: Win and Sell Tickets. A full 30,000 seat stadium looks better than 30,000 in a 60K cavern on TV. Just my two cents. UTSA has the cards stacked in their favor. We can only take care of our business not theirs. Separate the academic prestige from the athletic department. Boise State is a terrible school too. Call it the Texas Civil War, and try to stay one step ahead UTSA. Ignore Texas State, they're irrelevant. We just need to put a better product on the field than them year in and year out and sell tickets. Like it or not, in 10 years, UTSA will be a respected program and that rivalry will look nice. I still think our goal should be to get full support from Denton and the surrounding little towns. Let's be North Texas' team. SMU can have Dallas and TCU Fort Worth. There's more potential. We are closest big time football for all the little surrounding cities.
  8. Personally, I think this is only the beginning for this team. Our breakout season locally. Now we need a national breakout. Starts with UT.
  9. Mac took a team at the bottom of the worst conference and made them bowl champions. Awoke the fanbase. Pay the man whatever he asks. I think it's fair to say he learned from his mistakes at Iowa State and won't be resting on his laurels. He is attracting coaches that P5 teams would kill for, recruiting has picked up, attendance is rising quickly, the players feel the winning culture he's trying to build...pay him whatever it takes and hope that the contract is competitive enough or that he loves NT as much as he says he does. Mac is the best coach we've ever had-for two reasons. He can do the publicity thing and can coach football. Doesn't seem like many of our other coaches could do both. We need to awake the fanbase, and Mac has done an amazing job so far. I'm 100% on the Mac bandwagon. Even if we flop next year. Which we won't.
  10. I'm never a huge fan of that kind of nickname but USF was a program to be reckoned with in the early-mid 2000s. They went from FCS to Big East in two years. Let's see how quick Mac can move us up.
  11. This team is going to be very well-coached for years to come. Love it.
  12. That's Mac's biggest flaw. I trust Chico though with QBs...not so much Mac.
  13. Rice. Felt like big name college football. Campus was buzzing, people were 100% into the game, the NORTH TEXAS chant coming back in better-than-ever fashion, student turnout, costumes, national TV...just about everything. And the damn Stand. The crowd just kept getting rowdier and rowdier each stop. Massive insanity. Couldn't believe that happened.
  14. Our recruiting is actually pretty good this year. But think we will see some improvement.
  15. I have no faith in McNulty. If he's starting then I am pretty much lacking any faith in the new season.
  16. I just hope that McNulty is not the starter. That's it. I have to trust in Mac and Chico after this year, sticking with Derek despite all the criticism and him being the star in the bowl game. I feel like they can figure it out. To be fair, Chico has done a decent job with just about every NT QB. He made Dodge look decent during the Lock the Gate run, even.
  17. Berglund was never going to play, so...not that surprised. Unfortunate. He has talent. Dajon's job to lose.
  18. What in the hell is going on here? All I see is Andrew discussing Puritanism and our NCAA Final Four run.
  19. Exactly. We're very similar schools. We really should. Really play up with Houston/DFW rivalry. Rice doesn't represent Houston like UH does. Both fanbases travel well to each other, we brought 2K, they brought about 3K. Makes too much sense though.
  20. We played FIU? Interesting. We had more solid wins than most mid majors and the Georgia win garnered us a lot of good will. I think it was well deserved. (Ball, MTSU, Rice) and won every game by double digits. When we won, we dominated.
  21. From what I can see, he bleeds green already and is friends with half the team, according to Twitter. I think he's a safe bet.
  22. Is your point that I have equal disdain for both things? Can't deny that.
