Probably but if so, not by much. Seems like an attainable guy if we wanted to pursue.

Look on twitter at any announcement of a player opting out. Comments are filled with people proclaiming them as quitters. Every time, without fail. Using people in the plural sense. A $20,000 a year education when these players would command over $300,000 a year in an open market is a joke. Not to mention most of these players are encouraged to take easy classes and majors that don’t return much of an ROI at all anymore. They could pay for their education 10X over in a system where they received a fair share of the income they generate. It’s a farce. Especially when these guys are about to sign multi-million dollar rookie contracts, I don’t get how anyone can fault them for protecting the future of them and their families. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/college-football-player-value-2017-11%3famp

He’s going to the NFL and any success he achieves there will look very favorably on OK State. Mike Gundy makes millions a year because of people paying big money to watch players like Wallace while Wallace can’t get anywhere near what his true value would be in a free market system. Players like Wallace assume all of the risk, and he has already lost potentially millions on his rookie contract from where his stock was prior to his ACL tear, while the coaches don’t have to worry about losing out on their salaries. I’ll never understand peoples’ obsession with labeling these guys quitters for not playing these bowl games that the schools profit off of while the players get just a watch or something out of it, while risking hundreds of thousands of dollars by playing in (for NFL caliber guys). Plus, I think it’s a good chance for coaches to work with the guys who will be on the team next season, and multiple reports have stated that this was the plan coming into the game.

Guessing this contributed to the disconnect in PFF’s evaluation and what many on here feel. I don’t know the exact drops they’re referring to, but a few passes in the end zone I would say were equal parts on Aune and equal on the receiver, but they did have their mitts on it.

He picked up a couple today but Emmitt said he only had 5 because he wasn’t viewing the complete list.

For the record, Ollie Gordon is class of 2022. Still plenty of time to offer. Most of the time when we land guys who have P5 offers, we get them after those offers. Not by being their first offer.

‘21 RB Keith Jackson - Missouri City [SIGNED LOI]

18 carries for 118 yards and 2 scores as his team advances to round 4. -
He officially surpassed Dunbar in career scrimmage yards in their NFL careers. We haven’t had a skill player have this much success in the NFL since Ericc Pegram in the 90s, I believe. He’s representing us tremendously.

The funny thing is I thought the bowl game, without Darden, was Bean’s best passing game since MTSU. He completed 58% of his passes against a good defense despite some early misses and at least one bad drop on a deep ball to Ogunmakin. I don’t think Bean looked pedestrian at all. He wasn’t putting the team on his back by having a tremendous game by any means, but he played pretty well. 14 points each half, and Ogunmakin, Thompson, and Pirtle were the ones making the catches instead of Darden and Simpson. And like you mentioned with Shorter, we get Shorter, Simpson, Bryson Jackson, and Caleb Johnson on the field the next time one of these guys play QB. So if we can pass the ball decently without any of those guys or Darden, our passing game should be fine once we add those guys back in the mix.

I don’t disagree. I just feel like many on here who clearly only watch UNT games within CUSA were overly harsh on our QB play while lacking the perspective of seeing the week-to-week QB play across the league. Yes we should look to improve, and yes we should hope Gilmore and Drummond can beat them out, and yes if it’s Aune or Bean again we’d want better, but the play Aune and Bean gave us this year is an okay starting point at the CUSA level.

Transfers I'd Like To See Us Go After

No, I meant from a fan perspective. -
This is based on PFF’s grading on each player based on all of their snaps throughout the season. But like I said, based on stats Aune did also lead the league in QB rating. Bean was second, and I’m sure he was graded pretty well also. All conference selections are done based more on who had the most quantitative passing stats, not necessary who had the best qualitative stats. Aune and Bean both had better qualitative stats than O’Hara, who was second team, and arguably better than Wells, who was first team. Those guys just played more as the primary guys, which is why we led the league in passing yards/game, passing yards/attempt, passing TDs, QB rating, etc. Heck, they each had more passing TDs than O’Hara while having less INTs than him, and Aune averaged almost 2 more yards per attempt than O’Hara and Bean averaged 1.2 more yards/attempt than O’Hara. O’Hara was rewarded for having more passing yards. If we take a step back from our own finger pointing and trying to assign blame on this season, the QBs played pretty well for their 1st year and Bean played a good bowl game after some early misses. And if we really look at the other conference games, their quality of play is not below the norm in this bad conference. Did anyone watch Wells today or the two games prior? If that’s the guy setting the standard across the conference, we aren’t far from that (at worse).

No offense to Lifer or anyone else, but we’re definitely going to be disappointed if we’re hoping they go after specific transfers. -

He led the conference in QB pass efficiency rating. Three 300-yard games with only three starts on the season. It was honestly a really down year for QBs in the conference, but just looking at the raw results he did fine. We can improve the position, but if not he has shown ability to be a top 5 CUSA QB. If we can have a top 7 or maybe top 8 defense, we should be able to win plenty next year.

Richie James at MTSU measured at 5’10” in 2018 and ran a 4.48. All of his other combine numbers were pretty in line with his 40-time in terms of percentile. His production was pretty similar to Darden’s given number of games played. He went 6th round, but was coming off of his worst season where he was injured for most of it.

Transfers I'd Like To See Us Go After
BillySee58 replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
We’ve landed 5 P5 transfers in last 6-7 months or so. Jacob Farrell from OSU, Amani Gilmore from Kentucky, Jordan Rucker from Purdue, John Davis from Texas Tech, and Logan Wilson from Kansas State. That’s probably about the same caliber guys we should probably expect, so G5 transfers, and FCS transfers need to be given strong consideration. Especially if they are proven, since most of the P5 guys don’t have much playing experience. -

It’s becoming more common now. This guy did, but ended up committing to Duke this month. -

Definitely. Also went to the bullrush far too much and it didn’t work too well against guys 50+ pounds heavier. I remember when he committed he had some impressive comments about technique and film study so I think he’s teachable. I’m hopeful, but I would also like to see a transfer added who can legitimately push him or beat him out. Dotson and Jimmy Walker behind him haven’t given much indication that they are legitimate alternatives.

I wouldn’t give up on Mccrae so easily. I think we should definitely bring in a traditional DE who can push him and maybe beat him out, but it usually takes transfers a season to start settling in. Even Trice wasn’t a star in that first season. I think Mccrae will be better, but how much is a legitimate question because he’s got a ways to go to be considered a good CUSA level player.
