After 4 games, how do we feel about Coach Morris?
BillySee58 replied to 3_n_out's topic in Mean Green Football
A+. A little concern on Saturday that the second half would be a snooze fest but it was a good, competitive back and forth with true freshman Evan Jackson making a big play late. Also have 4 🧩 commits who have yet to announce. Potential there for some real game changers.- 37 replies

Are you sure about Brown and Davis? Definitely seemed like they were not playing much compared to normal. Brown had 2 assisted tackles and that’s it, and Davis didn’t record a single stat. Seemed like a lot more Loronzo Thompson at corner during the game.

So is this on top of the two puzzle pieces we got before who never announced? -
Eric Morris visits The San Antonio QB Club - Part 1

At some point someone is going to have to justify why they were paying 6 figures for some bench player of a team that goes like 5-7 or something similar. Does not seem like a sustainable endeavor for guys with that much money who want to track their ROI. -
You get it

I agree. We need him here for a long time. It’s clear he’s building something special here just like he did before at UIW. The only guys the offense is set to lose are Burns and Moreka, and should be able to shore up the defense in the portal. I think we win 7 or so this year then push for double digits next year.

Yup! We don’t ask for much, or aspire for much. UNT fans are like the 2010 Drake song “Show Me A Good Time.” Back when you used to long board in Denton. Show us a good time. That’s all we’re looking for. Success is secondary and that’s okay.

Not sure where you are getting this stat. It has been much more frequent than 9.5 years for every carry by our opponents. Usually more than 30 times a game, 12+ times a year.

Probably. Last week’s game was great stuff as well. This is a very promising trend of exciting football by this squad.

Which Port are we referring to? Arthur? Aransas? Morris, being a native Texan, is most likely aware of both.

What more can you ask for?! Win or lose that one, I was at the edge of my seat. And we won! What a start to the season! Also have to commend Morris’ ability to get some studs out of the transfer portal. Portal additions Rogers and Rauschenberg both coming up huge in the clutch.

Ah yes, Jennifer Lawrence. Whose breakout role was Katniss Everdeen. Wait a second, Katniss. Sort of like the famous softball pitcher Cat Osterman. Who played in college for…… wait a second. I see your coded Longhorn messaging here. Starting to wonder if the “we’re back” and “bring on the SEC” may have flooded your timeline because you put it there!

Really? Mine isn’t. Sounds like one of us chose to add a bunch of Longhorn folks to our timeline. Almost like it was purposeful.

I’m not sugarcoating things. I’m just saying I was entertained.

Swing and a miss. This is not what SpongeBob says here. He says “imagination”.

At the end of the day, I think we’d all agree we’d rather see our team lose in an incredibly entertaining game than win in boring fashion. It’s sports. Just entertainment that has no bearing on our actual lives. When we sit down to watch sports we want entertainment value and all the lead changes provided just that.

Is that a mistake or just an unfortunate by product of a coaching hire? When you start a new coaching regime, you don’t hire the DC who will best fit the roster you’re inheriting.
-
A lot of lead changes and man did Rogers look great. Am I the only one who enjoyed the football game outside of the result? La Tech game should be similarly competitive. I’m thinking we rattle off the next 4.

Something To Keep In Mind With Transfers

I agree with this. Give me these type of dudes over P5 guys who don’t even show up on their two deep. -

We had a coaching change. I don’t understand how this continually gets overlooked. Guys are going to transfer when the coach who signed them gets fired. If this deficit exists because of Morris’ signees leaving then the concern will be valid. As for losing the majority of HS recruits that become good players, the players who have left have almost all been guys who left during the coaching change or guys who played 4 seasons here then took that extra season because of COVID elsewhere. Again, if we see guys who were actually signed by Morris leaving, I’d be concerned but that wasn’t happening under Littrell. Guys he signed were playing 4 years for him, and only were really leaving for that extra COVID season. -

This is an odd interpretation. The post isn’t even about the Cal loss. It’s simply a reality check for impatient fans who are hoping portal additions are going to come in and save the day on day one next season. The guys we get in the portal this upcoming offseason are more likely to make a difference in 2025 after going through some growing pains in 2024, based on our operating information.
