Sounds like right where we want em 😎

Good game or bad game, he should not be handling the ball up there

6-0 run for Purdue with 2:30 left in the half. First big gut check time

Really like the film. Has a smooth jump shot from a high release. Hard to see why he didn’t have more offers, but I like the confidence in the evaluation. Wish I could see his stats, but film looks really good.

DRC: Rubin Jones to miss Purdue game
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
If he was a game time decision scratch I would feel like he has a shot at playing a second round game. Being scratched two days out seems to indicate what you are saying. -
That’s for fall sports. Basketball is considered a winter sport.

In our 4 non-conference losses to power conference/ranked teams, Jones hit 6 of the 17 three-pointers we made in those games. We are going to need to shoot well, and Jones could’ve really helped there.

We have not offered anyone in a couple months or so. This is similar to the last two seasons as well. Seems like once conference play starts we buckle down on the guys we have offered and focus on them, and the season of course. There are a lot of variables at play right now. For example, everyone is eligible to come back but if they all did, plus our two signees, we would be at 14 scholarships. The limit is historically 13. The NCAA allowed for seniors to not count towards the 85-scholarship limit for the 2021 football season. I have not seen a similar announcement for basketball rosters to allow for more than 13 scholarship players next season as long as no more than 13 are freshmen-juniors. So between whether the NCAA allows for more than 13, and figuring out which players will be back next season, my guess is there is still some uncertainty to sort out before we start seeing us chase more players. But hopefully our run has made us very appealing to transfers.

What would winning an NCAA game mean for NT?
BillySee58 replied to Tom McKrackin's topic in Mean Green Basketball
It needs to lead to improved recruiting, especially at the high school level. Rubin Jones, Abou Ousmane, Mykell Robinson, and incoming Matthew Stone are all really solid recruits, but things could be better overall. The last time we were in the tournament we followed that season up with signing: - Tony Mitchell: program’s one and only 5-star - Jordan Williams: 109th ranked player in the nation, offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia, K-State, Marquette, OK State, Oregon, Texas Tech among others - Chris Jones: offers from Colorado, New Mexico, Houston, SMU, TCU among others - Forrest Robinson: offers from Arkansas, Houston, Iowa State, OK State, SMU, Texas Tech, USC, and Utah among others The truth is our depth is lacking because a lot of the high school recruits we signed in the first 2-3 classes either are no longer here or can’t get on the court consistently. We have to capitalize on this success by raising our profile in recruiting and putting together a more complete roster. JUCO recruiting has been good, let’s take it to the next step in HS recruiting and also with D1 transfers, now that we have showed them this is a good place to showcase your skills and play meaningful games in March. -
Were we actually considering him or was that just the guy Tasty wanted?
-
We’ll see, but my guess is the demand has to actually be there. Maybe if the team continues to reach new heights like we are now the attendance will warrant it, post COVID. For every Texas Tech 2010, or CBI Finals game there are 10+ non-conference and early conference games where the actual butt in seat attendance struggles to break 1,500.
-
I believe any future sporting venues constructed will all be on the Apogee side of the highway going forward.
-
It was about 6,800 iirc. Smaller, more intimate venue with less empty seats.

I think the key to stopping Simmons is making him catch the ball outside the paint. He is a really good passer out of double teams so doubling him can be a bad decision. His struggles have come when he starts his back downs from outside the paint and has to dribble more than 2 or 3 times. He has had the ball stolen from him a lot this year, and also traveled a good bit in these situations. He and the team did a good job avoiding these situations in the CUSA tournament, but they had been ailing us throughout the regular season. There is no plan B. Our 6th man, freshman Rubin Jones, is our only other player really capable of creating shots for other players and he was injured and missed the CUSA tournament. The guard, 5’11” former walkon JJ Murray, who stepped into the 6th man role scored 1 point in 74 minutes of time on the court in our last 3 wins of the CUSA tournament. Our only other guard off our bench has scored 42 points in his two seasons with the team, and he has been available for basically every game of his career. It’s all on Hamlet unless Rubin Jones can go.

He has been off the roster for a while. Had just assumed he was going to graduate and hang up the cleats.

This is heading into Saturday, from the currently top rated bracketologist (yes, that’s a thing) in terms of accuracy. March 13 | 1-68 1. Gonzaga 2. Baylor 3. Michigan 4. Illinois 5. Iowa 6. Alabama 7. Ohio State 8. Oklahoma State 9. Arkansas 10. Houston 11. Texas 12. Kansas 13. West Virginia 14. Purdue 15. Florida State 16. Virginia 17. Tennessee 18. Creighton 19. Villanova 20. Colorado 21. Texas Tech 22. USC 23. Oregon 24. LSU 25. Missouri 26. Wisconsin 27. Oklahoma 28. North Carolina 29. Florida 30. BYU 31. San Diego St 32. Clemson 33. Virginia Tech 34. Rutgers 35. Connecticut 36. St. Bonaventure 37. VCU 38. Georgia Tech 39. Maryland 40. Michigan State 41. Loyola-Chi 42. Wichita State 43. Louisville 44. UCLA 45. Syracuse 46. Drake 47. Utah State 48. Saint Louis 49. W. Kentucky 50. Winthrop 51. Liberty 52. UCSB 53. Buffalo 54. UNCG 55. Colgate 56. Morehead St 57. Grand Canyon 58. E. Washington 59. Drexel 60. Oral Roberts 61. Cleveland St 62. Hartford 63. Nicholls 64. Iona 65. Prairie View 66. Mt. St. Mary’s 67. App State 68. Norfolk State On the 12-seed line(s), 45-48 is for the last four at-large teams in, then 49-50 is the two AQ 12-seeds. He has WKU and 23-1 Winthrop as the two AQ 12-seeds. Of the four 13-seeds, we have a higher NET than all three except for UCSB, and Buffalo was knocked out by Ohio who has a much lower NET than us. With WKU vacating one of those 12-seeds, the top contenders for that AQ 12-seed would probably be Liberty (NET 84), UCSB (NET 55), and us. We beat a higher ranked team than UCSB did in their conference championship game, but they probably stay ahead of us (NET 62). Liberty notched a couple SEC wins in Non-Con, including the Mississippi State team we lost to, so they probably hold the résumé advantage. The teams on the 14-seed line all have NETs in the 100s, except for Colgate Toothpaste (NET 8), a team that has only played conference games. Their conference championship game is tomorrow, so I suppose you could say we’re rooting for them to lose but I doubt they have the resume to hop us. All this to say, we are in the hunt for a 12-seed, but 13 does feel most likely. Only way we fall to a 14-seed is if multiple teams with significantly lower NET rankings get placed ahead of us.

DRC breaking news -- Rubin Jones to miss C-USA tournament
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Mccasland mentioned it as being day-to-day heading into the CUSA tourney. Then the news broke the next day, and day of our first game, that he would be out for the entirety of the tournament. Not sure how much of a difference 5-6 more days will make, but if it truly is a day-to-day injury then there is a chance. -
Bump. What a tournament performance from the man we really needed more out of. Gave us that boost and then some.
