La Salle Transfer Forward Jared Kimbrough
BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Yeah, given Kimbrough’s lack of shooting, I would think he would play the 5 here so that seems likely to be a Simmons replacement. A duo of Ousmane and Kimbrough at the 5 would be a good combo in that we’d have a more athletic big in Kimbrough and a back-to-the-basket scoring big who is more grounded in Ousmane. Kind of like a speed/power running back combo. Even if it’s not Kimbrough, that would be the type of big I want complementing Simmons or Ousmane. In the case of both, but especially Abou, you give up some quickness and athleticism at the 5. Especially against the better teams on the schedule. -
La Salle Transfer Forward Jared Kimbrough

Has NOT committed but sounds like we are recruiting him and he will be coming to a decision soon. Not a full-time starter but rotation player for La Salle the last three seasons. Kind of seems like a big man in the Deng Geu mold. Tall, slender, athletic big man, not much of a shooting threat. Junior, would have two seasons of eligibility left. Free story from Brune. https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/Article/Transfer-forward-Jared-Kimbrough-discusses-recruitment-options-163116388/Amp/?__twitter_impression=true

If those type of schools offer, there is likely no raise we could offer that would make a difference there. Raises aren’t enough to put us in the same ballpark of pay. -

NCAA changed their rules in December to allow players a one-time sit-out free transfer from D1 to D1, or FBS to FBS in football. -
McCarney made some pretty grandiose proclamations while recruiting a couple of my friends who ended up going to Oregon. “Why not North Texas?” When things started going south here he was very quick to bring up the shortcomings and obstacles of achieving success here. I don’t have ire towards McCarney overall, but I would prefer not to hear that level of BS coming out of any of our coaches mouths again.

Here’s a perspective I’d like to touch on. Does James Reese, or any future departing senior leaving, think NT has gone as far as it ever will in basketball? I don’t think so but I do think it’s fair to imagine they don’t think there is much of a clear path to replicate the success next year. Especially if they have knowledge that Hamlet is gone, which seems likely. In other words, maybe they don’t think this is as far as NT will ever go, but they may think it is as far as NT will ever go while they still have eligibility. -

He made it in his interview with Shan and RJ on the 105.3 The Fan morning show. Contextually, seemed like more of a passing statement about the school’s standing among the current college sports landscape iyam. https://www.radio.com/podcasts/shan-and-rj-734/north-texas-head-coach-grant-mccasland-359983853 -
He was being extremely truthful. He was even talking about how it took time to wrap himself around really believing they could actually beat Purdue at first. Being truthful and getting results sure beats the alternative of a coach spewing BS you know he doesn’t really believe and not getting results, making it look even sillier.

Some potential Hamlet replacements, in the event that he is gone. I really like Green and Stewart, but I also really like guys like Reynolds who were High Major players who played but never really had the chance to be the guy. I feel like guys like that saw Hamlet play for us and thought they could do something similar if given that role.

I feel like Hamlet is more likely the beginning domino in this situation. Reese and Hamlet came here as a package deal. Hamlet said so in an interview with Brune, that he and Reese had been talking before their recruiting picked up that they were going to go to the same D1 school together so they could team up again, then that ended up being here. -

It’s funny seeing freak outs over losing guys who this was supposed to be their last year here anyways. Side note, I hope we either keep or bring in some seniors so we have spots available for the 2022 high school class. This is as much recruiting momentum as we have had in a decade and you have to think the caliber of HS recruits we will be able to sign would be potentially game changing. Need some spots available though.- 82 replies

Good info. UAB has lost quite a few so looks like they’re using the portal to fill those spots. Also picked up KJ Buffen from Ole Miss.

Hoping we can use this thread as a catch to keep up with players transferring, declaring, or transferring to the other teams in CUSA. Marshall off to a bit of a rough start. If Kinsey leaves for the draft that’s 3 of their top 4 scorers gone, and Kinsey is being projected as a first round pick.

I took that as a coach at a school like Texas Tech or TCU might feel about those schools outlooks towards basketball too. UTEP, for example, may not be the best program going right now and certainly is behind us and the other two I mentioned presently, but that’s a basketball school. And yeah, definitely what you said about being there when it’s bandwagon season but not when we’re playing Maine in November. Never seems to be a situation where excuses can’t be made for why people don’t want to show.

That team is definitely among the contenders for best teams in school history, but to say they consistently beat a second-round NCAA tournament by 15-20 when they only had 4 wins by that margin for the season seems a bit hyperbolic. Same for them going undefeated in CUSA. That 75-76 team lost some games to some less-than-spectacular teams and most of their games were pretty close. 4-pt win against a 12-15 Bowling Green team, 1-pt win against 9-18 Oklahoma City, 2-pt win against 7-19 Louisiana Lafayette, and an 8-pt win against 3-23 Samford. But they beat an NCAA second round team consistently by 15-20? Also, I know that was a good team that season but were we really the premier team in Texas from a recruiting standpoint like you’re alluding to with us having no lightly recruited kids? I know that team was good, but they had not been over .500 in 6 seasons so was that our recruiting standing among the state at the time?

Yup. To quote his own statement
