It would be nice if we could grow placekickers in Denton
-
We might be for now. I think what's more likely is if Friar or Casimiro don't pan out you could maybe see Benford take away those offers in favor of the better recruit. Casimiro has sold no UNT fans on his scholarship so if he doesn't produce this year it's possible as many bigs as we have committed. As Harry has stated, the best possible scenario to happen for us is for Tony Mitchell to have a great year, lead us to our best year in school history, declare for the 2013 draft, and get selected early.

This excites me greatly.

From what I hear he is having a great offseason. Hopefully he can effectively play the 3, since he is only 6'5"

This year (even if TJ Taylor is eligible at any point in the season) PG - Chris Jones SG - Alzee Williams SF - Jordan Williams PF - TM C - Keith Coleman 2014 PG - Chris Jones or PJ Hardwick (if Jones declares) SG - Alzee Williams SF - Jordan Williams PF - Anthony Norris/Greg Wesley/Tony Nunn in that order of likeliness (I think we go with Norris at least to start the year because of experience and versatility unless someone new arrives which is unlikely but not impossible because it is way too early) C - Keith Coleman We have 5 seniors on this team but there is a good chance none of them start. Our starting lineup should remain almost completely intact except for TM who will likely declare. The change from 2012-2013 to 2013-2014 will be our bench minutes, but that is a long way from now.

Awesome! Glad he's getting a lot of preseason pub, because God knows he deserves it. Just wish for once they could leave off the Missouri story, but I digress.

It's a shame that Majerus won't be on the court at the Super Pit if we do get a return game. He won't coach at all this year due a heart issue. I'm not sure how good they'll be without him, because he really brought that program about as high up as you could possibly ask heading into this season.

This league only started about 3 years ago

That's correct

His shot looks actually pretty smooth. I think that is the most important thing to improving range and also the hardest to fix the older you get. Similar to throwing a football or baseball, shooting a basketball is a motion that can only change so much around the time an athlete enters high school. Luckily Wesley's form looks pretty good on his shot, he just doesn't look like he needs it much against his current competition. He also hands the ball pretty well. Before he steps on the court for us he is going to need to work on his range and perimeter defense. He definitely has the tools to become special and the pure athleticism to contribute immediately. Don't kill me on this comparison but his game reminds me of a young Josh Howard. Howard started off playing more down low and even through his senior year at Wake Forest a lot of his minutes came at the 4. Howard had a good release coming into college and really improved his three-point shooting percentage before he graduated, in addition to his perimeter defense and ball-handling. If Wesley can be anywhere close to Howard's production level we will all be very happy with this pickup, but I think he definitely has the potential.

Not very many shots, would like to see him develop an outside shot for him to play the 3
-
Combination of speculation, dire need, and what would his eligibility situation be like if he came. But speculation to answer your question.

Zach Orr was pretty highly rated out of high school he just got overlooked by some major schools because of height, not speed, mass, or strength. I know what you're getting at but I wouldn't use Orr as an example in this particular argument.

Third LB commit of 2013. We are young and experienced at this position so it looks like these players will have time to develop. Linebacker, Offensive Line, and Running Back look to be our deepest positions from top to bottom heading into next year.

Red-zone offense needs improvement as well. Thompson really struggled here (4th down pass out the back of the end zone anyone?) and has for most of the year, save for a couple passes to Chancellor where BC made it happen after the catch. Troy stacked the box most of the game but especially in the red-zone.

DRC Monday column: Lack of playmakers hurting UNT
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
The only ones I could think of would be receiver Nick Schrapps and running back Jamarcus Jarvis. Jarvis may be a running back but he has the weapon of speed so maybe they try him at receiver or something. The only other redshirt out of scholarship skill players that he could burn would be Mcnulty, which I doubt. -
I think he has proved he is head and shoulders above Byrd. Byrd has no explosion and as a result he is only averaging 3.7 yards per carry. Jimmerson has almost three yards more per carry at 6.5, and four games in that proves a big difference and not just a good or bad game. I want to see 70/20/10 percent of the carries between Jimmerson, Chancellor, and Byrd. If we are up in the fourth then Brown can get the ball.

Good! I'm glad you're sticking to your guns instead of hiding behind the veil of the internet. I respect your belief and your confidence but I have had enough of DT. I honestly can't stand watching him play. That K State game was nothing impressive, mainly a lot of 5 yard hitches but he was very accurate. If we are going to stick with him as a team we might as well keep calling those type of plays.

I really want to but it's a once a week class. Ah, we'll see

Let's not forget how young this defense is. We will only lose 3 contributors from this years defense in Defensive Tackle Tevin Cantly, Defensive end KC Obi, and Linebacker Jeremy Phillips. Phillips should be replaced easy with Stock back to go along with Orr and company, and the other two are decent players but far from irreplaceable.
-
Darn it! I have class from 6:30-9:20.

And Billy haha! Just kidding, but I beat you to it Mr. Trussell! Check out the recruiting thread.

Kicker Ben Grogan, Arlington Martin
BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Right, I have no doubt Grogan will find a place. As for our kicker you speak of, I haven't seen him play (all though I may have since I played Horn when he was a sophomore just don't remember him) but if he is that good I expect him to be given a shot this week. He's a kicker, it's not like he has to learn a new offense or anything. If he can knock them through he deserves a shot
