Maybe we just need Scott Bakula under center

Don't forget all the free private lessons he gave him years before he ever stepped foot on campus.

Because Berglund has good arm strength and speed to where, if he were in, Chico would be able to open the playbook for him. There is a reason why so many big schools offered this kid a scholly. Look at Western Kentucky. Their roster is filled with players that other (even bigger) schools wanted and they out-recruited them for and we have A LOT of players who we were the only school to offer. I know sometimes players don't pan out so I don't want to see examples of players who weren't offered by anybody and went on to the nfl, or players who everybody wanted out of high school becoming a bust either. My point is, Berglund has some tools that DT doesn't which could make our offense harder to stop.

Funny guy. All I'm saying is with what we have left on our schedule, it won't be easy to get to 6-6 with the way things are going, especially if our defense is having trouble, because the other schools we have left to play can put up numbers on O just like Houston. Putting in the back-up qb has been known to work at times in football, and it has failed. I thought after Osborn went six for seven with two tds and no picks at Tulsa last year that he might get a chance as bad as DT had been up to that point but he wasn't, although DT did play well later in the year. That performance showed me that he has a chance to be a gamer, but I don't know if we'll see it anytime soon or after it's too late. Hope they can pull something together this year. Or we sit in a cocoon until basketball season starts.
-
To those who say DT hasn't been given a shot I realize you don't mean playing-time wise but rather play-calling wise. He has proven to be below-average at throwing the deep ball and intermediate passes, so this greatly constricts the playbook. Chico isn't gonna call plays that DT can't handle, which is quite a bit, so our offense is pretty predictable and boring. Also, our situation at receiver doesn't help much. As for the argument that Mcnulty and Osborn should have beaten out DT in practice by now, I stated that earlier that Osborn could be a gamer and DT has proven not to be, even though DT might have outperformed Osborn enough in practice to warrant having no pressure to be pulled (apparently). Maybe Osborn goes in there and lights it up, maybe he doesn't but it seems like at this point it would be worth a try.

I've also heard that they are the real deal as well. These guys, along with Berglund, have been doing work on the first team offense for scout team. Apparently these players have been making the defense coaches very agitated during scout team. We shouldn't have to compare Terrell to Stratford, but rather contrast at how differently they panned out for us. Pegram is a well put together runner at 5'9" 215 lbs with solid speed, so expect him to be in the mix next year as well.
-
I've heard Berglund has performed very well in practice while playing for the scout offensive against the first team defense. People like to doubt Berglund's ability to single-handedly turn around this team, but he is a good football player which is why there is so much pub surrounding him. A stud qb can make a decent team good, a bad qb can make a good team bad, etc. It is the most important position on the field and having a good one can take us to new heights. It doesn't look like DT is capable of that honestly, but he is a captain so we'll see how much that and him being the incumbent senior starter come into play with Mac's decision going into next season. I'd say 50-50 as well, at least to start the season since DT will be a two-year starter already.
-
A gamer. This word is a very real thing in sports and many people don't acknowledge it. Maybe DT looks better in practice but he has not proven himself to be a gamer. Osborn did well in the Tulsa game last year when he went in, albeit against the second team defense. Six out of seven for 69 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Osborn may very well be a gamer but we will never know unless he goes in. Alternatively, Osborn could be worse and turn the ball over which, like Harry said, DT doesn't do much of.

I understand, but with all due respect to you, Taylor should be getting the best medical treatment possible along with daily treatment and rehab by professional trainers. I'm not saying it's not a serious injury, I'm just saying I would think it would be a possibility to get that shoulder healed over these next three months and have him ready by January. That may not be possible, but my point is if this is a possibility I would think it might be worth it for him to only play January, February, and March rather than sit out the whole year and retain an extra year of eligibility. This is the year that we have to put all our eggs in the basket so to speak and Taylor could be just the difference maker we might need come March.

It's not time to throw in the towel.....

Although it would be nice to see some freshman who are good enough to contribute anyways, despite depth. We have a few but hopefully we see some more emerge this year or at least next year. -

As much as we like to bash Dodge, one thing he did leave us with was a solid 2010 high school class. Zach Orr, Y'Barbo, Antonio Johnson, Chancellor, Bellazin, Will Wright, Teagarden, Olen, etc. That class didn't feature very many high school recruits, but the ones it did leave us with are valuable contributors. They, along with the 2011 class that was mainly Mac and some Dodge, are providing us the bulk of the depth to redshirt the 2012 freshman along with a few 2009 holdovers and walk-ons. -
This. Americans love football, and ESPN is one of the first places channel flippers go. No competition is huge and we could get a lot of people, potential high school recruits as well, who would not otherwise watch us to see a UNT football game. Last week was big, but this one might be bigger for other reasons.
-
I guess. Maybe I'm just thinking that because Vito didn't make it sound too serious.
-
Well I'm trying to emphasize that it's closer to two inches. He looks like a legitimate 6'10", not a 6'8" guy listed two inches taller. Every inch counts IN BASKETBALL. I used all caps to deter that's what she said jokes, but if you must then you must.
-
I saw him and Tony Mitchell walk into the union together. Tony measured at 6' 8.5" with shoes at the Lebron James skills academy. Keith was noticeably taller, either an inch and a half or two inches taller than TM. Keith is for sure 6'10" with shoes on, maybe without.
-
Man, I don't think I've ever heard of a shoulder injury knocking a guy out for 6 months. I am not TJ nor do I know anything about the situation so I am no position to speak about his situation. I just think that if he can come back in early January or so it would be worth it. This is the last year we will have Tony Mitchell so we need to make it count, which means having everyone. Maybe we don't need TJ to win the Sun Belt or make it to the dance, but we want more than that this year and he is can be that difference maker for us in march.
-
Yeah he should be back. It is a slight assumption, but not a big one at all.
-
I will be surprised if we don't get one as a a team saturday
-
Exactly. The good thing is it looks like Benford is building up this roster very well for life after TM.
-
While it would be great to see him stay for 4 years, it might not be the best thing in the long run. If he leaves he can get started on his NBA career at 21 rather than 23 (if he stayed all four years). He can show to future recruits that you can go to UNT, have a successful college career, and still be drafted in the lottery picks.

Club baseball tourney in Houston, me plus the rest of the team!
-
I think it might be possible that our roster, with CJ and J Will back plus the additions of Coleman, Hardwick, and TJ Taylor (as long as he's eligible), might be the best in the conference even if we didn't have Tony Mitchell. TM will take us that much farther but I think we have surrounded him with the best roster this conference has to offer.
-
Maybe, but at least Tony deserves it and has said all the right things when interviewed.
-
Yup. It should be awesome to see what they can do together with some time.
