Awesome! Thanks 03! It seems safe to say that he is the headliner of our recruiting class right now.
-
Yeah I definitely agree he should get some minutes. I just don't think as many of them will come at small forward.
-
I'd say Alzee at 2 and J-Will at 3. Roger lost weight and worked on his game but he is still a 4 trapped in a 3's body. He just isn't at the point to start at the 3 imo at least. Maybe he will become better at the 3 with experience but he just isn't a perimeter player to me.

If McDermott is playing the three I sure wish we had Justin Patton. If he truly is our best defender as Coach Benford says then we could really use him against one of the nations best inside-outside scorers. Everyone is talking about the T-Mitch vs McDermott showdown but I wouldn't be surprised to see more of a J-Will vs McDermott matchup all night. J-Will has pretty impressive quickness and athleticism, the two skills that are keeping McDermott from being a lottery pick right now. I definitely can't wait for this game. Football is going to have to hold me over until then. -
UNT Lands WR Darvin Kidsey from Houston Elkins
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I wouldn't be surprised to see him play next year rather than redshirt. He is not a burner as much as he is quick and elusive. From his tape looks like one of those guys that you would think is covered in butter the way the defense can't hold onto him and get a good solid lick to bring him down. I like what he will add to our receiving corps, regardless of who our qb is next year.- 18 replies

You got it. Hopefully he'll be good to go for the Creighton game but yeah, much better this than let him miss classes and study hall and come out with uneligible for next semester -
This. Mac is in too deep at this point.
-
Second coming of Dallas Clark?
-
No, he's coming here to play qb, make no mistake about it.
-
Sorry, meant to say an operating website. The most recent story is about Mini Mac's impending recruiting visit.
-
UNT doesn't have a rivals website so rivals is sometimes a little slow on our commits. Devante Davis and Mark Lewis had been committed for months but didn't show up on rivals until national signing day.
-
Exactly. Coach Wintrich will get this kid in the weight room and in Victory's dining hall. Another reason he could really benefit from a redshirt year.

Are you implying that he's a gamer?

Cody Nelson rated 3* by 247sports

Yeah, that's the thankless job of being a true fullback. Scott is well under 6' tall so that's why I think a position switch could be a possibility, and the fact that we are stacked at linebacker. He will be given a shot at linebacker first, I just wouldn't be surprised to see him get moved and it is something to keep an eye on at the very least. -
No he can't because he has already started grad school here at UNT. He can't say another school has his grad program and UNT doesn't.

First of all, there is no such thing as a 5th string Left Tackle. Second, you're right about the evaluation process but it only works to a certain degree. Coaches try to simulate game like situations as best they can. One thing I've noticed about sports is that the longer a player has been on the team, the more comfortable they are in practice and the better they are able to handle the pressures of practice, much like how a 3-year starter is better able to handle the pressures of a game than a sophomore getting his first start. I don't know how DT does in practice and I'm not saying Osborn is nervous every practice, but DT is in his fourth year on campus so he is able to handle practices pretty well, presumably. But I, and most people, have no idea what he has done in practice to warrant an endless string before being pulled or what Osborn has done to be never given a chance. It sure as heck hasn't been has performance on the field over the past two years or his natural ability, because he has not improved in games, when it matters, and frankly has a slow release and a weak arm. DT seems like a great guy and pretty smart. No one is bashing him as a person or student. We just there is a chance that Osborn could do more for us if given the opportunities that DT has been given in games. We could be wrong and Osborn could be worse, as he is apparently in practice, but the risk seems worth running at this point in the season.

OJ Mayo, if he can stay on the court and out of trouble, is the best shooting guard we have had since Michael Finley in 04-05. We haven't been able to really fill that hole since he left even though we won a championship. Our starting shooting guard in the 06 Finals was Adrian Griffin and it was Barea and Stevenson in 11. Collison is better than the shell of Jason Kidd we have had for the past few years. I love Kidd and will forever be grateful that he helped get us the only professional title in my life as a sports fan, but he needs to hang it up. Not really worth what he got in NY. Kaman is the best scoring center we have had in the Dirk years. He is no where near as good as Chandler overall or defensively, but he is a better scorer. Excited to see him play soon because we may not have him long. We have some decent pieces on this team, so it will be interesting to see how everybody plays together. Or we could suck and get TM. Either way the team is going to look very different again a year from now. -
Very interesting. Hard to see it as a typo if Y'Barbo is at center AND Feeley is at left guard. Guess we'll see, but hopefully Fort is good to go.

This. The current Sun Belt is pretty comparable to the teams that will be in next year's CUSA.
-
Well, putting things in perspective, it is most important in the long run that he was able to get his degree. Now we have to give him a shot right? Hopefully we can at least get a big lead in the South Alabama game, but as slow as we have been starting I wouldn't expect it. A lot of us, myself included, complain about DT's football playing ability but in all honesty this season has had to have been extremely tough on Osborn. Seeing the guy in front of you struggle and show no signs of improvement for 2 years while never being given the chance to show what you can do is extremely tough. I think he'll find a place next year and hopefully he'll get a shot.

Since we all know about our team and all of our talented players I thought I'd give you one to watch for East Central. They have a 6'4" guard/forward in Braxton Reeves who was district MVP last year in 4-5A for North Crowley. I was surprised that he ended up there but he didn't do much until his senior year at that basketball powerhouse so I guess that's why. Anyways, he's a good player to look out for as one of their 15 newcomers. -
Good stuff. Will be interesting to see if this happens.

Exactly. They pretty much can't help it, unless they take a knee the entire fourth quarter.
