I think you are kidding, but in the event that you aren't, Manziel is in a completely different league than guys who are in a completely different league than Teagarden. However, a game like this really shows how a true dual-threat quarterback can open up a playbook and make an offense extremely tough to contain. Berglund can provide this wrinkle to our offense, Thompson can't and Teagarden should be left being a special teams stud and an improving receiver.

I said this before and I'll say it again, Skyline is a program that we need to recruit the heck out of. Look at our De Soto pipeline. There is no way we get a 4-star transfer like Darius Terrell if we hadn't reeled in their "lower-rated" prospects in Zach Orr and Jimmerson. My point is, players at these big time programs are able to compete usually from day 1 after having to earn spots from other D-1 players, even if they weren't 5, 4, or even 3 stars. Also, they can sway their higher-rated high school buddies over here if things don't workout at x school and they want to come back home. We unfortunately don't have this advantage with Johnson.

I was thinking this might happen, and couldn't help but hope that he might come to UNT. Hey, maybe he was just home sick, I don't know. Either way we'd take him in a heart beat. UNT is a really good option for players who want to be close to home, yet be out of their parents shadows enough. I hope he is able to take care of what might've caused that incident to happen, but I really hope his talent doesn't go to waste.

Absolutely. Watching him play makes me nervous. I'm glad we landed a kid from Guyer, hopefully Shilleci won't be the last one we land, but I look at a guy like Kenny buyers who was first-team all district as a junior and senior for LD Bell yet walked on for us and contributed as a true freshman. He hasn't even finished high school so he has plenty of time to improve, but I see him headed for a redshirt season.

I feel like he and our defense are holding us back. The worst part about his season was that he made no improvement at all as the season progressed. That's admirable to be defensive of your team's players, but we need to make and take any upgrade to our team that we can, especially at the most important position in football. I understand your point, but after the last two years a lot of us want to see someone at qb with more physical capabilities like Berglund.

Oh come on, he missed one full game that year. We opened the playbook up for him this year (mainly by necessity) and as a result he made more mistakes and threw more interceptions. His numbers really weren't that different other than an increase in overall attempts, which increased touchdowns, yards, and interceptions. Average-based stats stayed relatively the same, such as completion percentage, qb rating, and yards per attempt (actually went up a noticeable amount). Please, as a relatively new member to this fanbase, don't subject yourself to this mediocrity. I'm sure he's a good guy and he gets good grades and all, but DT is not what a starting division 1 quarterback should look like. I know he's a step up production wise from what we've had since Scott Hall, but I feel like because of that some of our expectations have been lowered.

I just don't really see how you're justifying that his numbers were down. He was nothing special the year before, we just handed the ball off more and he threw less interceptions. There's a reason his production isn't good, and that's because he lacks a lot of tools. Very weak arm, slow release, and not very athletic. People are scared that Berglund will be a bust or whatever, but there is no way he can be worse than Thompson IMO. Also he's athletic, so even if he isn't throwing great he can at least present a threat with his legs. Hopefully DT can be a serviceable backup, as long as he can just keep from turning the ball over if he ever has to go in. Like I've said before, the important thing for Berglund is that he improves, as Thompson was never able to. He has three years of eligibility so as long as he improves and we mold the team around him we will have a good chance to be successful in the upcoming years.

Our club baseball team won our fall tournament in houston with 15 other teams in the bracket. Season starts in late January, get behind us haha

Also, one more point regarding the question of why we are bringing in another offensive tackle. Please note that tackles must be taller, athletic players with long arms to fend off the pass rush, so you can't just stick any good lineman at tackle. You rarely see Division-1 tackles shorter than 6'4". Manu's film shows that he has a strong upper body to go along with long, strong arms, although he could use some help in footwork and keeping his head out and prevent from lunging at the incoming pass rusher (things you can easily coach up). Good given long arms, strength, and not to mention the guy looks nasty on film, so I think he is a solid addition. Right now we may only have 3 true scholarship tackles on our roster in 6'5" Junior Antonio Johnson (2-year returning starter), 6'4" Senior LaChris Anyiam (returning co-starter), and 6'5" RS Freshman Connor Trussell. I'm not sure about 6'5" tackle Grant Shaw since he wasn't on the spring weight-chart that we saw released before the semester ended, but there's a possibility that he may not be on the team anymore. Also, heading into spring Justin Manu will fill out our two-deep at tackle with legitimate scholarship players. Then in the fall, once our 3 freshman offensive lineman arrive, we will be able to pick and choose which of them will be better suited for tackle and not have to rush any of them into action. The good news is they are all listed at either 6'4" or 6'5" so they have the potential to be versatile and help out at different spots along the line.

We actually redshirted three scholly lineman this year in Tackle Connor Trussell, Guard Ryan Rentfroe, and Center Boone Feldt. Not to mention walk-on Center Kaydon Kirby who I believe will start at center next year. We definitely have depth on the line and these new guys won't hurt.

He has never been listed as a commit on rivals. His coaches haven't updated it and we don't have anyone actively running our rivals page. Don't worry, he's still with us.

Yes, he is high school class of 2010, which would mean this is his third year of college. One redshirt year and two years of playing JUCO ball, so he should be a two years to play two season guy.

Exactly. Like you've said before, our walk-on program is one thing that we have going for us and should continue to have going for us with our reasonable tuition compared to the other DFW Division 1 schools in TCU and SMU. And yes, Monkey's right. I was talking about the JUCO DT that OU got. Also OU just recently flipped former A&M commit 4-star DT Kerrick Huggins of Dallas Skyline.

Kaydon Kirby has at least an equal shot at the starting center spot than Feldt at this point. If Mckinney wants to compete at that spot he is going to have to lose weight, because even though he has a lot of good weight it still slows him down. As far as Charles Walker, I find it odd that they would accept a commitment from a juco dt soon after offering Walker if they weren't willing to take both. Either way I hope we still get him, since he would play right away here but would probably be looking at a redshirt at OU.

Good! I missed the second half but glad they turned it around. Yeah his ability to rebound and steal the ball was impressive. He just looked a little over-amped when he tried his put backs early on. Happens with a kid playing on ESPN from time to time.

The thing about coach Mac's recruiting is that it seems he is going after the guys he wants, they just happen to not have very many other offers. I don't know how often situations like you referenced happen to him though, where players decline his official visit offers. As for Brady, I read that he played more defense his freshman year on the freshman team behind some dude who quit for the basketball team the next year.

Slow your roll chief, don't get too butt hurt. My point was that outrecruiting players from other teams who want that player also helps in the long run. Look at our current committments' offer list and you'll see that a lot of them just have us. I agree with you to a point about the star system that recruiting sites use. It does have a lot to do with politics, such as a 3-star committing to Texas then getting bumped to 4 even though he has the same film. The more important measuring bar is what other college coaches and programs have offered that player. If we're stuck getting the players that nobody else wanted, then we can only be so good. Exceptions come around at too low percentages to have to count on them panning out. As for Brady, he didn't start playing quarterback until his sophomore year of high school, so he had a long way to go as far as college readiness. That's a major reason why his production in college was not too impressive, thus causing him to get picked low in the draft.

Eh, I don't. Hamilton really was not as big an asset to us these past two years as people think. Napoli will be a bigger loss but even he didn't have a great year. Good production for a catcher though. And Michael Young had one of the worst offensive seasons of any everyday position player in the AL last year. Giving him at bats just because he was Michael Young was getting really old to me. We'll be fine. Yu is starting to establish himself as one of the best pitchers in baseball. He misses more bats than almost any other pitcher. Profar could be a ROY candidate and Beltre was by far our best offensive player last year, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Sometimes you run that risk with guys playing against weak competition. Hopefully they pan out.
