I like the way we have played on the road under Mac and I think this will be the year we break through with W's to show for it. The only conference road game that looks particularly tough is Tulsa and I have a good feeling those guys will underestimate us this year. I hope we make them pay for it.

Which rookie are you looking forward to the most?
BillySee58 replied to greenminer's topic in Mean Green Football
I know he has been identified as a probable cornerback, but if he plays receiver could you see Jermaine Antoine playing early as a true freshman or Darvin Kidsy for that matter? We lacked some athleticism at receiver last year and these guys have plenty of it. -
I too think the attendance record is very realistic. It will be interesting to see how our non-conference opponents' fans show up since Muncie, Indiana and Moscow, Idaho are both flights. Texas Southern fans showed up last year, I was pretty impressed. I predict that we will score a big road conference upset this year and win three conference road games.

ESPN's Damon Sayles on Kahlee Woods UNT visit
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Anyiam was not. Cam Montgomery was a 4-star according to scout.com coming out of juco. Don't think we've had one on espn or rivals since they've been around.- 14 replies

UNT's Devante Davis transfers to Southeastern La.

Exactly. It works both ways in college football. Hope he does good, I liked watching him play. -

Berglund on offense and Jarrian Roberts on defense. Also, look out for Connor Trussell. I'm a little biased since he was my high school teammate, but he was the definition of a late bloomer and is really starting to look solid. Coach Mac gave him some praise in practice last year and he looks like he might be 6'6" at this point. -
Wed. night FB notes (Jimmerson, Warner, big fall plans)
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree that Byrd is not garbage, I just think that Jimmerson actually gets us points. Jimmerson scored 5 rushing touchdowns in the redzone against FBS opponents and Byrd had 0, even though Byrd had almost 100 more carries. He broke off a few long runs at the end of the year but they were blocked up perfectly, although I will say Byrd showed good speed. I also think Byrd ran better out of the shotgun than he did under center. I thought Byrd got tackled too easily. It usually only took one player to bring him down and he rarely made it up to the safeties. You can't just tell me that he is a power back, I have to see it first. I saw Jimmerson drag LSU defenders for a first down and I can't remember Byrd ever putting up much of a struggle to go down. -

Spot on. Byrd should be our third string back if Pegram is as good as he was reported to be in practice. I'm glad some one else observed that Byrd isn't actually a power back, he just goes for short gains and gets tackled way too easily. There is a reason Jimmerson scored almost all of our touchdowns and Byrd only had a couple or so against FBS opponents -

Yeah, this doesn't explain the extra scholly for the 2013 recruiting class. Well, never like to see players who showed promise as a true freshman leave, but defensive back is turning out to be one of our deepest positions on this team. Let's see if Xavier Kelly and/or David Busby take care of this opportunity in spring. -

Good! I think Jimmerson will be our star this year, at least on offense. -
Breaking news — UNT lands Jermaine Antoine
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I know. My point was that I don't think that Washington State wouldn't take his commitment even if he wanted to commit to them at this point, thus he essentially has no other true scholarship offers other than us. -

I don't think that Washington state offer is still committable at this point. I also don't see why he would want to play for Leach anyways. -

At least Jermaine Antoine is still 3 stars.... for now

For the record, Austin is his cousin and is expected to be just as highly recruited as Jermaine, if not more.

Antoine was a class 2A first team all-state selection this year. http://247sports.com/Player/Jermaine-Antoine-16624/TimelineEvents Nice to get players like this. Should be able to compete from day 1. -
Good point. I just see similarities in the sense that all the stars seem to be aligning. In my opinion, with the skills that Berglund adds to our offense I think we should be in every game this year save for Georgia and maybe another road game or two (I.e. Tulsa, Ohio, or La Tech) It's definitely nice having stability at the helm.

Breaking news — UNT lands Jermaine Antoine
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
After watching him play I want him only for the reason of developing a pipeline to Guyer. We don't have a lot of prep players in this class so I'm not sure who exactly would grayshirt. -
Did you guys not learn your lesson from Basketball season? I just can't wait to watch Jimmerson run the ball behind our line, hopefully we get to see that which I think we will. There are plenty of other players that I can't wait to watch play, but I'll save my optimistic predictions for after we win a few games. That being said I really like the way out team is stacking up.

No problem. It's a relatively new rule that I am familiarizing myself with also

This explains it better. http://www.themidnightyell.com/2012/06/breaking-down-numbers-in-class-of-2013.html?m=1#! The player has to enroll before the fall in which they start playing in order to back count.

Breaking news — UNT lands Jermaine Antoine
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I think Warner moves to safety personally, but it looks like we have a logjam at defensive back. Hopefully he gets his act together. Regardless of Warner's status, we return both cornerbacks (one of which was 2nd team all conference) and some key back ups. Also we added a juco all-American in James Jones and arguably our top recruit in Chad Davis, both to play cornerback. I think Coach Mac and crew will have a better idea of where they want Antoine after spring practice is over. A lot is set to play out, but Mac said he wanted to add these athlete type players to this class and this is a prime example why. Either way Antoine is a solid pickup. -

Yeah, I just don't see him staying there with the guys that we've landed, plus everyone we have coming back, plus Warner back. -

Yes thank you! If Mitchell declares then Josh will have a great chance to get some solid minutes. Especially if Coleman stays in the dog house, since he will be our only returning post.
