Was he offered a scholarship or is he going to be a preferred walk on? I really liked his film earlier this year, regardless

Yay for originality.

I used to think that the qb was closer in pistol, but I was the center for my high school team and I asked my coach if I had to snap it any different than shotgun when we started running some pistol and he said no. So I looked it up to see, since I had seen Nevada run it and I thought their qbs were closer up. They might be a little closer but for the most part their heels are at 5 yards, which is what you go by. Kaepernick's heels look like they are at 5 here. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7BCJeBchzPA It can be run closer depending on any coach's wrinkle to pistol, but it looks like heels at 5 to me, and that's what we did.

No, the qb is 5 yards. The back is just deeper.

Key UNT recruit taking a visit to local rival this weekend
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
This is the nature of the beast. This is big boy recruiting. I'd rather have this situation than have a class filled with guys that no other schools want. Those guys can turn out good and all, but those guys are the exceptions, not the rule. As for Jermaine, I really want him in this class and he'll help us immensely, but let him go on the visit. Recruiting is a once-in-a-lifetime process so he should get to enjoy while he has the chance. If TCU offers and he chooses them, we would only have ourselves to blame. It's our fault we have had eight straight losing seasons, meanwhile they've had multiple 10 win season including two BCS games and a Rose Bowl win. -
These uniforms are badass, we all agree on that. Coming from the perspective of a current college student, college students would love to see new, trendy jerseys. We watch big-time football and see these Oregon jerseys and Nike pro combat jerseys. There are a lot of UNT students who want this to happen for us, players included, and a Facebook page that we could like in mass numbers would allow us and anyone else who cares to voice their opinion. That being said, it may very well not make any difference at all, but if Rick Villareal saw 10,000 likes on a page with custom made UNT jerseys you would hope he would at least see that this is what the students, fans, and even players want. Also, Mac has said he doesn't want new jerseys but it may not be entirely his call. I don't see why it's not worth a try. I do see how you think it's a lot easier to face palm than create a page on Facebook, much less like it.

Jermaine Antoine heading to Fort Worth
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
The A&M offer is not committable at this point. If they offered him then there was a point in time that they would've taken his commitment, but that was before that had such a successful year in the SEC and before they had 30+ commits. -
That's too easy at that point.

At lot can and will change from now until August 31 when we kick off at Apogee against Idaho. Let's get some early predictions anyways. Who leads our team in: -Passing yards -Rushing yards -Receiving yards -Tackles -Touchdowns -Most likely to get an interception -Most likely to get a sack against Idaho
-
We should start a facebook page for those unis. I guarantee you the students would like the crap out of that page.

DT Sydrick Moore (6-2, 265) Van, Texas
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Hey Harry, could we get year of graduation next to all these prospects names? -
Wow, guess he's graduating a year early
-
If he transfers to another FBS school then he would have to sit out a year. Since he was a redshirt sophomore this year, that would mean he would have to sit out his redshirt junior year them only be able to play one season as a redshirt senior. It would be in his best interest to transfer to an FCS school.

Texas State pulled the ESPN 4-star back in the post that you quoted, not Larry Coker and UTSA.

Who coaches d-line is not the only thing that matters with recruiting. No matter how much scouting, evaluating, and recruiting our assistant coaches do, it is ultimately Mccarney's decision whether we offer a kid or not. Mccarney, being a d-line guy, has been pretty selective with what d-lineman he offers especially with this class. You're right though, we just aren't bringing in d tackles, and I think that could be because Mccarney only wants to offer the good ones. Problem with that is other schools want those guys too, and due to our recent lack of success it is hard to win recruiting battles against schools that have been winning. Also, it seems like you don't know this, but coaches don't only recruit players for their position. Sometimes, maybe half the time they do, but coaches are not assigned to recruit players at their position only.

Wylie Reinhardt, D-Line potential
BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Highlights http://www.hudl.com/athlete/348199/wylie-reinhardt -
Wylie Reinhardt has quickly become one of my personal favorite recruits for this class. At 6'4" 260 lbs he has very impressive size and athleticism to go along with a nasty mentality, so he should be a stud Tight-End for us. But watching his film numerous times I can't help but wonder what he could be for us at defensive end. He was a four-year letterman, so he knows how to use his hands and is a tenacious blocker, which would translate well to the other side of the ball. I know he was recruited as a tight end, but what do you guys think about Reinhardt as a defensive lineman?
-
I agree. I just think his pickiness holds him back sometimes. Yeah, I think his evaluation of Tebo is an example of his guruness, but d-lineman very rarely slip through the cracks by other teams' guru evaluators. That is just such a high demand position. As for Boutwell, we need him there and Mac isn't the only one that sees that. It's unfortunate, but that's just the state our program is in right now. Words can't express how much a winning season would help our program in every way right now.

We have been Stratford'd again. Not by Berglund, Terrell, or Pegram, but by Cam Feldt. UNTJim is right, Stratford couldn't crack the depth chart at OU for a reason, neither could Feldt at Arkansas or here. Terrell was out of position at tight end at Texas and Pegram was cracking the depth chart at the end of his Purdue career, as evidenced by his bowl game performance. So hopefully these guys and Berglund turn out better, as they have been in practice at least so far, but I just can't see how Berglund would end up being less productive than Thompson. Tired of seeing 8-9 in the box.

You guys shouldn't be surprised, we haven't won yet. We have improved, but 5A DFW kids usually commit the summer before their senior year, especially the ones that have a few options. If we are coming off another losing season then the schools fighting us for a kid will use that against us. Also, whether you believe in ratings and stars or not, the best recruits have offers from other schools. Until we win we will have trouble getting these top recruits. As far as D-Lineman go, this may be the hardest position to get good players, since the best programs rarely let the good ones through the cracks. People have asked why do we not have any d-lineman since that is the position that Mccarney has most frequently coached over the year? My Answer: Because Mccarney is probably pickier evaluating who to offer at this position than any other position. Like I said early, since we have not won yet we have had trouble winning recruiting battles and good d-lineman are coveted by other schools too. Because Mccarney doesn't want to offer just any Jo-Schmo at d-line this class, we have seen ourselves lose the d-lineman we were after this year to schools like OU (Charles Walker), Tulsa/OU (Matthew Romar), Baylor/TCU/Texas (Andrew Billings) and Tulane (Tanzel Smart). I know Tulane isn't that good but we couldn't tell Smart that we were much better off (4 wins to their 2) and then they probably killed us with the proximity pitch among others. We will probably get Tebo now, and I hope he turns out great, but we really need a big season this year in order to start reeling in big fish on the d-line.

UNT commit Sergio Medina Highlight Video
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Nor was I. Obviously he tackled high, which is not as easy a fix as some of the people on here think, but he also seemed to get to the ball a little late and was not very explosive in his tackles, which would've resulted in him getting dragged at the next level. Sour grapes I guess. I would've liked to have him because he was a good athlete with potential, but I was never a huge fan of his highlights. Two straight years Tulane has plucked a linebacker from us right before signing day. I hope we kick their butt every year, starting this year so this doesn't happen anymore. -

I agree, no neutral site games for this series. Also, I hope we make them feel like our red-headed step child starting this year, while stealing recruits from their backyard.- 15 replies

Which rookie are you looking forward to the most?
BillySee58 replied to greenminer's topic in Mean Green Football
I think he could impact our offense and we definitely have more depth at cornerback than we do at receiver. I would think that if Coach Mac asked him to play offense Jermaine would be more than happy to oblige. -
You make a very important point about the qb competition. I just can't see the coaches sticking with DT after the lack of confidence they showed in him that you pointed out. As for having a qb with no experience, that is not necessarily a bad thing. Look at Marcus Mariota from Oregon and Johnny Heisman for A&M, both first year starters. It does help that they each had stacked teams but they performed well personally for first-year starters to say the least. Also, prior to this past BCS championship game, the starting qb on the winning team had been a first-year starter for the previous three champs. It can be a bad thing too, but I think the important thing is that Berglund improves in his time as our starter. I never saw improvement in DT over two years which is why I think it's time for a change.

That's why it'd be nice if our offense could put up 40+ on Idaho and get some buzz going around campus.
