Yes they are, and that is the major difference. They also become part of the next year's recruiting class, where walk ons never count toward any recruiting class even if they earn a scholarship.

Played high school ball with Matt Waller. I would expect him to choose baseball but if not he would find a way on the field here, whether he walked on or not.

Yes, walkons have a great opportunity at UNT. These guys were usually studs in high school too. There really isn't much of a difference between a guy UNT gets who only had one other offer or none, and these guys who walk on. I think Avery will be a solid player just like his brother and your son Troy.

Definitely signed for a reason. He will get a shot, but he needs to be much more mobile to play center. You never want a redshirt freshman (Feldt or Kirby), much less a former walk-on in Kirby's case, starting at center unless he truely earned the spot. Also, yes Jimmerson will once again be our receiving threat out of the backfield.

Short term I'm excited about Kidsy out of the high school recruits, assuming we hang on. Long term I think Harrison Sorge will be a stud, and I think Wylie Reinhardt has a chance to be special. I hope we can keep signing good tight ends so we can move Reinhardt to defensive line.

I don't know why, and I'm sure some, if not most don't. A few of my teammates signed LOIs on signing day to walk on and some signed to Division II schools where they don't give out full scholarships anyways.

Walk-ons still sign letters of intent in these preferred walk-on cases.

Amidst the decommits that we've had this recruiting season, I think we are going to say that we made out on top by getting Wylie Reinhardt to flip from Texas State in a few years. I have a feeling that he ends up flipping to defensive line and becoming a monster. I'd trade Reinhardt, whether he stays at tight end or not, for Antoine and Medina. We are deep enough at receiver, cornerback, and linebacker short term and long run in my opinion.

Yeah, I gotcha. Had a feeling that's what you meant. But our current LBs are either too short to play D-End or too small weight wise. We did move Jarrian Roberts, a freshman who just redshirted, to defensive end. I like his potential at 6'2" and 250 lbs or so to be a good player for us on the line.

None of our LB commits will end up DEs. The only player from our current recruiting class who I could see at DE in the future is Wylie Reinhardt.
