No, he's here, Trussell is ahead of him at right tackle. Trussell is about 20 lbs heavier, an inch taller, and stronger in the weight room than Manu. Don't underestimate him, he's coming in this spring looking to earn a starting spot too.
-
He came a long way. His freshman year was his first year ever playing football, and he didn't even really know the rules to the game. His strength was always outstanding. To this day he is one of the strongest lifters on the entire UNT team. His technique was not good in high school. All he knew how to do was Bull rush, no pun intended. He's gotten a lot better with his hands, but when in trouble he still relapses back to the bull rush which doesn't work well on 300 lb lineman. I wouldn't be opposed to a move to fullback either, but at defensive tackle if he doesn't keep putting on weight (those measurables are from the beginning of last football season) and learn to use his hands better he'll be toast.

I think Alex Lincoln needs to start at defensive end for us. I know we need help at tackle, but he could still rotate in there. We need him on the field, best overall defensive lineman on this team in my opinion. As a former high school teammate to Haboul, I completely agree.

He was on the travel team last year. Played a lot on special teams.

OU QB Transfer Drew Allen, (6-5, 210) Alamo Heights
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Maybe, but don't expect it. The word is that Mac only wants 4 qbs on scholly, plus the fact that we are currently full at 85 scholarships. Wouldn't be too surprised to see a few guys transfer or leave some other way after spring ball. Happens pretty much every year. -
OU QB Transfer Drew Allen, (6-5, 210) Alamo Heights
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Yeah, TFLF seemed to dance around your question of whether or not it was a stretch to compare Allen to Russell Wilson. Also, TFLF, what are you talking about that Berglund never sniffed the field at Kansas. That was because he was in Colorado away from the team the entire 2011 season. All reports indicate that the spring 2011, before his legal troubles, he was in contention for the starting job as a true freshman. Drew Allen was a third-string at OU behind Jones and Blake Bell. Idk who is better, but you're bashing a player who is actually on our team and committed to the success of this program. I'd personally rather get behind our sophomore quarterback than your pipedream QB for one year Drew Allen, who "might" be the next Cam Newton or Russell Wilson. -
This is the battles we should be winning
BillySee58 replied to H-towngreen's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Why should we be winning this battle? They went to a bowl last year and we didn't, or haven't for the past 8 seasons. I know what you mean though. This is a huge season for recruiting, obvious as that may sound. The one thing we have to sell in the recruiting game, besides Apogee, is that coach Mac is leading us in the right direction. If year 3 doesn't yield better results on the field than year 1 did, we could be in trouble and be left with little to sell about our program and even more ammunition for schools to use against us. I am willing to eat my crow, but I think we turn it around this year and hit bowl eligibility as well as turning it around in recruiting. I think the upgrade that we will see at quarterback is going to make a bigger difference than even pro-Berglund fans are anticipating. Should this not happen, I won't hide nor act like this hasn't been my stance. -
Next weekend in Waco, we got 3 club games in two days haha. I can't wait either.

UNT men’s basketball look-ahead Part III (recruits)
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I keep thinking that if we get some late studs in recruiting we will be fine, but after last year I just can't. A little as Benford was able to do with the roster that we had last year, I just don't see how we can be a winning team no matter who we have on the court. Benford'd -

Shape ups ftw. Our players will have the most sculpted calf muscles, no homo, in CUSA. -

Throws and qb read options (Berglund) should make our offense much more diverse and less predictable. -
Why I'm Excited For Next Season 2013
BillySee58 replied to H-towngreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Let's face it, there is going to be some hype entering this season because of how good our team looks like it could be on paper. Just because we got Benford'd in basketball doesn't mean we can't sip on that green kool-aid heading into this football season. I loved watching this offensive line and Jimmerson go to work last year, and we should see that more this year against defenses that don't have 8-9 in the box. Can't guarantee much on the defensive end other than the fact that we have 2 stud linebackers and a rising star at a cornerstone position in Zac Whitfield. Second-team all conference is nothing short of prodigious for a guy in his first year playing the position, especially considering the lack of pressure our d-line got a lot of the year. Hopefully that can improve. -
Well, despite the conservative play calls and man coverage he still threw 14 interceptions last year. He does deserve some credit on not getting sacked many times, but of course so does the line. We'll see. You're right, it shouldn't matter who is at qb as long as they are more productive. College football is a man's game altogether, but it really takes a football player to score in the red zone. Red zone football is not for the faint of heart and that's why Jimmerson was really our only back who could score, not to mention our red-zone passing woes.
-
Exactly. The eye in the sky never lies. Watch the film and you'll see how well our line performed. Explosive playmakers will really help show off how good they are. Our vice-versa. Either way, I can't wait to see this offense.
-
Young will be a redshirt junior this year, but the rest of your point still stands.
-
Yeah we could see formations where they were both in the backfield. I agree that tight end is a broad term in our offense, but Miller was between the qb and the tailback on pretty much a majority of the plays. You could justifiably call him an h-back, tight end, or fullback.
-
I think people forgot how much drew miller played fullback last year. He's built more like a fullback than a tight-end at 6'1".
-
Yeah, I love having linebackers who can play in space like Marshall, but linebackers still have to be able to tackle. We'll see though.
-
Trussell is my sleeper pick on Offense. I just said Marshall was my sleeper pick at linebacker.
-
My sleeper at linebacker is Jamal Marshall. Very similar player to Will Wright but I think Marshall has him by a step in speed. I could see Hilbert Jackson moving to safety if Jones is as good as advertised at cornerback. Also, I think that Alex Lincoln needs to start this year. From what I saw last year, we may not have a better overall defensive lineman than him. He uses his hands and gets off blocks really well, even playing as an undersized defensive tackle. Finally, I really hope Jimmerson is the starter but I feel like Mac is too old school to put Byrd behind either Jimmerson or Pegram on the depth chart. It's all about results though, and we score when Jimmerson is in the game.

MHSM Exclusive: The story of Brock Berglund
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes there could very well be smoke. Just from seeing the way Brock conducts himself I feel a degree of confidence with regards to him off the field at this point. I'm the same age Brock is and I feel like he knows how to handle social media, interviews, and being in public better than almost everyone on the team and most our age. Most our age just don't understand how damaging what you do or say in the public eye can be, but Brock appears to. Plus from reading his interviews he's done with all the moving around. He wants to just play football and not deal with anything else. Yeah, Vizza was a weird case but he also left to go to A&M I thought, and he had more eligibility and a redshirt available when he left.- 26 replies

MHSM Exclusive: The story of Brock Berglund
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
He was a Scottsdale for such a short time because if he had stayed there for the fall semester then he would not have been eligible to transfer here or anywhere else in time for this spring semester. Also, he's pretty settled in here and he would be best served finishing his college career here. He has 3 years to play 3 seasons and transferring after this year would be pointless.- 26 replies

Rice Game vs, UNT on Halloween - National TV!
BillySee58 replied to CaliMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
The guy, that's me. You guys act like you can't scroll half way up a page to find information, both of you. But yeah, I saw a schedule both on my friend's Facebook page, courtesy of Rice football's Facebook page, and a schedule of our's online that both said 11/2 on them. I wanted to see if you guys were 100% sure that the game was going to be on Halloween.
