This. He practiced one semester with Kansas spring 2011, when he should've been a second semester high school senior, and was doing good enough where he was expected to not redshirt his freshman year and either be Jordan Webb's backup or start. Then the legal trouble came in, followed by Gill getting fired. People are acting like he is a bust already. He will get action the first half of the game against Idaho as long as he is healthy.

If Skivdrew played for Benford he'd go home crying to mommy in an hour. I've played for some mean coaches, but Benford is excessive, like Rice, and creates a terrible practice atmosphere. My gf has a yoga class in the pit so I'd go early with her and see him chew out the guys, Niko in particular, for stupid reasons.
-
Can someone release a Mike Rice type video of Benford? Honestly though, Benford is harsh verbally like Rice was to his players in practices. You have to be tough on your players, but Benford has been known to cross the line. Another big reason why his players don't want to play for him.

That's just the way Bergland plays. Even last year during scout team he would play as such.
-
He's having a good spring, but Vito is making it sound like we won't be able to recognize the guy this year. Maybe he has improved, but I just don't know how we can win with a qb that our coaches don't have confidence in.
-
It's okay, the sky may very well fall on apogee if we lose that game.

People forget that these guys will report for fall camp about 2 months before we play Idaho. We only have one more week left of spring football, but the qb competition will not be shut down. I've said this before, but if DT is the starter don't be surprised to see he and Berglund both get chances to lead the offense against Idaho in the first half. These coaches have too much invested in Berglund and too little confidence in DT (see last year) to anoint him the undisputed starter. Also, Berglund has looked good this spring when he was healthy. Who's to say he'll be fully healthy by fall, but the point is the coaches aren't going to label him a bust based on this spring. Maybe DT starts, but he will have a much shorter leash this year than last year.

Has to work on mobility and quickness but he has some tools. That first step off the ball is critical at this level and he has to improve that, but he has natural size and is fiery. Two things that can't be taught. Needs to be more consistent as well. Been known to have good days here and there but also been known to have some complete no shows.

I'm excited to see him play possibly more at defensive end this year. He deserves it since it is his senior year after all.
-
Alex Lincoln is our best defensive lineman. It's a shame we don't get to see him at end more, but we need him on the field as much as possible this year.

Haha, I usually keep my cool pretty well. But geez, that TSU game had me and my friends going crazy, and from the board's reaction we were not the only ones. I had to convince them all to stay. Here's some good information for you guys. We might have a 3-star JUCO linebacker who played for a big 12 school coming to campus today.

2014 Offer: Sam Sizelove, LB, Argyle

That's jake raulerson who he blew up! That's a big boy, and an army all-american who is committed to play for the longhorns. -
I agree in the long term, but I don't think it's a terrible solution to the qb competition with our new offense, at least for the first game. Idaho is a team we should put up 40+ points against at home. If I see a repeat of the Texas Southern performance from last year I'm just going to lose it.
-
Yeah, honestly I haven't been around this program long enough but if Q Brown misses the season and is denied a hardship redshirt then that would be absolute BS.
-
Yes they do. His situation is different from say, TJ Taylor because Brown would've been perfectly eligible to play this season due to JUCO transfer rules. The only hold up is that Mac is talking about getting him back on the field this season before conference play starts up. If he sits the season he should get the waiver.
-
I have a feeling that this qb competition won't be settled this spring or in the fall. In a presser Mac said that he would not be opposed to a rotation at quarterback. I think we could see a qb rotation at least for the Idaho game between DT and Berglund. Not Berglund as a wildcat qb to come in mid drive, but an old-fashioned rotation in which the qbs get a drive or two to conduct the offense, then the other qb gets his turn. The coaches brought Berglund in to be their guy and changed the offense to better suit his abilities. DT on the other hand appears to not be giving up his spot without a fight but is not the fit as a running threat that Berglund is for this offense. I'd be surprised if we only had one qb start every drive that first half against Idaho, especially if DT is the "leader" in the qb battle coming out of spring.

He will have to request a waiver from the NCAA for a hardship waiver, as he has already burned his redshirt.
-
Haha no problem. Good to know, as I myself have not seen him in person. Yes, that's a guy you recruit the heck out of whether you need him or not. Big time potential at different positions on the line.

RV to Announce Retirement this Week

Have to say, you got me pretty good. -
Good stuff Harry! Also, glad you agree that Reinhardt has potential on the defensive line. I'd be very surprised if they didn't at least give him a look.
-
Of course skivdrew and UNT90 are the same person. Multiple Personality Disorder?
-
Like I said, he is at least 6'2" and the reason Mac called him undersized is because he was in high school, at least for a Division 1 lineman. He been at or around 300 lbs pretty much since he's been here though. Agree with you on rankings, they do matter as a whole for classes, but not always with individuals. As you said, there are exceptions.
-
This isn't as big a problem in football as it is in basketball. But yeah, luckily the combine sets the numbers straight. Also, if you're looking at a players measurables on rivals, definitely take those numbers with a grain of salt unless the numbers have checks next to them (indicating rivals has verified those numbers at a combine). Zac Whitfield was listed at 5'11" 199 lbs on his rivals profile.
