  1. Good for Sed! Nice to have speed at linebacker. He needs to bulk up a good amount, but his speed should make him an interesting prospect going forward.
  2. Me and you both. Also, a player can't play football and be on scholarship with another sport. If they play football and are on an athletic scholarship, the scholarship must count towards football. This way football teams can't bring in a bunch of track and baseball guys and have them play football while not counting towards the 85 scholarship limit in football.
  3. Anyiam was a co-starter last year. He can play a little, so it's not like he was just moved just to provide depth. He was moved because he can and did contribute. Absolutely Mac likes him better at Right Tackle, but we have some depth on O-Line and not so much d-line. Maybe "much" is a stretch, but I do think they'd be better on the outside, or at least Lincoln would be. It's not even just that he'd be better on the outside, but he'd be have a better chance to make plays, and he could be a playmaker on D, as could Boutwell. At tackle they're stuck trying to occupy guards and centers and preventing them from combo-ing up to the linebackers. A vital and thankless job, but not as much a chance to make a play on the ball carrier. Also, Boutwell has not held up well at tackle. It's not his fault. He has to eat something ridiculous like 7 meals a day to hit 260 on the scale. This was when he played primarily a 3-technique. He will probably be needed to play the nose tackle, or 1-technique, which is more suited for the big guys. This problem would likely occur with guys like Watson, Austin Orr, and Haboul as well. Wallace has the natural size, so it'd be just great if he could step up and contribute. I personally don't think they will move Anyiam to nose tackle, but I think it should and maybe will be discussed so I figured it'd be worth discussing here.
  4. I think someone on here stated that Coach Mac doesn't see Thompson as a Division 1 defensive lineman. Then again, we aren't sure how many Division 1 tackles we really have right now. I'm sure it'll be discussed.
  5. Who's throwing out random names? Anyiam came here as a defensive lineman and started at defensive end for the 2008 5A division 1 state champion Allen Eagles. I didn't just throw a random name out.http://dallasnews.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Pr_Key=81785 As for Boutwell and Lincoln, they are much better served on the outside. It will be such a darn shame if Lincoln doesn't get a chance to play on the outside during his career here, because he is a stud. What makes you think our other four defensive tackles are going to be good? I hope they are, but it's not like we, or the coaches, have never seen them play at all. Just not in games.
  6. I am too, just stating the likely situation.
  7. I conpletely agree, obviously. Also, what about LaChris Anyiam? I know he's starting at right tackle but he has a d-line background.
  8. If that height and weight are anywhere near close to correct, he'd be a DT here for sure.
  9. If he doesn't make it here, Boutwell and Lincoln can kiss any dream of getting to play on the outside this year goodbye.
  10. Well, of our 6 remaining scholarship defensive tackles, 4 of them arrived here as defensive ends (Boutwell, Lincoln, Orr, and Watson). The other two are Sir Calvin and the undersized Haboul. I think it's only a matter of time until Wylie Reinhardt gets moved to defensive tackle from tight end. Also, I think Syd Moore will claim a starting spot sooner this year rather than later. Syd Moore's highlights: He might only be 6'0" 260 lbs, but he's relentless, explosive, and dominated. 34 tackles for loss last year. You want guys who dominated in high school, not were impressive every now and then. See why 247 had him at 3 stars and our highest ranked commit when he first committed. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1333525/sydrick-moore Wylie Reinhardt: About 6'4" 265 lbs. He has the frame to grow into and he's athletic for a big guy, strong, and nasty. You need your d-lineman to have some nasty in them. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/348199/wylie-reinhardt
  11. It's a journalist thing. Until the charge is official you have to use words like suspicion, and according to police. Also, this makes Syd Moore getting to campus that much more important. Dutton Watson, Sir Calvin, Austin Orr, bull, this is your chance to make plays on Saturdays.
  12. Still technically a junior, but yes. He's 21. I think DUI is worse personally, but I have some bias as one of my family members was in a DUI accident that resulted in a death. Somber stuff for the board I know, but it happens when operating a vehicle under the influence.
  13. Uh oh. This could be bad.
  14. Scotty is high school class of 2010. He will be a redshirt junior this season. Brock is high school class of 2011. He will be a redshirt sophomore this season.
  15. Yup, Valor has become quite the program. Last year they were quarterbacked by Luke Del Rio (son of NFL coach Jack Del Rio) and their running back Christian Mccaffrey (son of former broncos receiver Ed Mccaffrey) is one of the top 2014 running backs in the country. This has also become a problem in Oregon with their Jesuit program being so dominant.
  16. Yeah, like Jesuit. Although I'm not entirely sure how Jesuit works. I think Jesuit's enrollment is actually high enough for them to be 5A, so the UIL allows it.
  17. In Colorado they group public and private schools together. Berglund competed for Valpr Christian in 3A and then 4A. Valor Christian is now 5A.
  18. I was thinking about starting a thread like this. Brelan chancellor has NFL speed. Also, I could see Jimmerson doing something with his bulk and shiftiness. He could use a little more speed though
  19. Read. We struggled to win 12 games with Tony Mitchell. My question was how are we going to win more games this year with guys like Voss filling his spot in the lineup? I wasn't saying we need Voss to be the next Mitchell, just that if Benford couldn't win with Mitchell, who knows how much he can win with shorter and less athletic guys rebounding. I forgot, it doesn't matter as long as he holds them academically accountable.
  20. I agree with you. I don't trust Benford's polishing skills yet, but fortunately Voss doesn't seem to need much polishing. Not saying he'll be All-Conference or anything close, but he looks fundamentally sound. Problem is, fundamentally sound guys who are 6'7" and nothing special athletically run into rebounding problems. Good pickup, but he's no Tony Mitchell. Like I've said before, 12 wins with Tony Mitchell, who knows how we'll be able to improve significantly, much less at all, without him. Voss is a good pickup, just not a player who should be asked to lead a CUSA team in rebounding.
  21. Kind of makes you wonder...
  22. We could use a freshman point guard or shooting guard. Preferably a true combo guard, but I doubt there are any true combo guards still available that have us on their radar. We have 5 guards if you count Jordan Williams. 2 seniors (Walton and Alzee) and 3 juniors (Taylor, Jones, J Williams). We could use at least one developmental underclass men guard. Not a necessity this class, but a possibility.
  23. Yeah, these two pickups that we just got are about as solid as we're going to get. I doubt we get anyone good that is over 6'8". Hope Benford proves me wrong. He's proven me wrong enough so far. Like when I told all my friends we'd win our conference this year and go I the NCAA tournament.
  24. If we got anyone six ten/six eleven at this point they would either be about as good as Arthur Casimiro or worse.
  25. You hear what you want to. I said we DON'T need Berglund to be Johnny Manziel. Don't. Do not. I didn't compare them but that's what you wanted to read so you read it and translated it in your head that way. Same thing with Berglund's past. You selectively read what you want to read. If you read into it, you would see that Berglund was going into his true freshman season as the backup qb to Jordan Webb, and would've had a chance to win the job in the fall. He made a bad life decision in a tough situation, and he was not able to be with the team or at the school for the semester of his freshman season. His play was not the problem. As for his time at Scottsdale, if you look at the stats from the scrimmage he played in, he got the most playing time of all three qbs. I don't know if he would've started, but judging by how much playing time he got compared to the other two qbs, it seemed that he was in line to be the starter there. I think he gives us a better chance to win than Thompson. I saw Thompson have all day to throw last year and end up throwing a wobbler or an overthrow. He didn't have a great receiving corp, but he didn't make enough throws when players were open. Berglund might end up being a bust, but his skills give us a chance. Thompson's skills are limited and are a big reason we struggled offensively last year. Football is a team sport, but quarterback is the most important position.
