  1. Commitment ultimatum in June?
  2. I know I've come out as not the biggest fan of Byrd and DT, but I really do believe we will only win 3 or 4 games if those two don't improve from last year and we don't replace them. 105th in the nation in scoring is not going to cut it, so that means DT is going to have to be more accurate in the red zone and Byrd will have to run with his head up and get in the end zone (0 red-zone touchdowns against FBS opponents). Yeah I know our defense has work to do, but DT and Byrd wasted too much good blocking last year, both in the red zone and overall. They have to improve, our else we can't let them keep their jobs all year like they did last year.
  3. Ignore said troll(s)
  4. Ambles started for USC? Who told you that lie? He had one career catch for them.
  5. Now we have two true centers on our roster in Gaines and Coleman. It'll be interesting to see if either starts.
  6. Call me a homer, but I'm really excited about Syd Moore and Alex Lincoln this year. I'm thinking that Moore, Wallace, and Reinhardt will allow us to play Lincoln, and maybe Boutwell, on the outside more. I think Moore will be Freshman all conference and Lincoln will get at least some honorable mention for all conference. Come on guys, prove me right!
  7. Not bad. Offered by UCONN and Memphis in high school.
  8. Jury is still out on Brown. Lancaster tore his all so didn't get a chance. We'll see about Schrapps, but he hasn't exactly stood out, nor has Lancaster. They're still young as redshirt freshman this year, but I would be surprised if Kidsy doesn't pass them on the depth chart.
  9. I really think Kidsy will be starting before the end of the year. No knock on the other receivers, I just seem him being special. Speed and has good looking route running ability. He'll have to earn, because our receiving corp looks pretty good. Better than last year for sure IMO.
  10. Redshirting can be viewed 2 ways: - The way you see it, where the players are given a year to mature so that they can have a more legitimate shot at playing as a redshirt freshman and still have 3 years to play after that, is the first. - The other way, is that players are redshirted because they simply can't crack the depth chart. This is sometimes a bad omen for the player's future. Not always a bad sign, but it's hard to call this a good sign for the player. All-conference and, dare I say, players with NFL potential should be able to beat some of our guys out from Day 1 and be a starter or significant contributor. O-line and QB are the primary exceptions, as unless the player is starting or the immediate backup he is usually redshirted. I am from the school of redshirting as many as you can and building your team up so that you only rely on the freshman who earn their spot and beat some guys out. But any coach will tell you that he wants every player that can help the team win readily available. Redshirt as many as you can, but if you can't keep some guys off the field as true freshman, there's no need to compromise performance for redshirts. If you can't keep them off the field as a true freshman, they're probably going to turn out pretty well. I like to think we have at least 4 of those guys in this class.
  11. Can we just leave a player who is plus sized at his position there, rather than move him somewhere else where he will be undersized?
  12. None is a little extreme. You hope at least a few guys you sign are capable of contributing from day 1.
  13. I really like the idea of a 3-4, seeing how deep we are at linebacker and how thin we are at defensive line. The fact that we'd only need 3 defensive lineman on the field at a time sounds good in theory, but one of the most important positions in a 3-4 is a true nose guard who isn't so much a playmaker, but a tough guy for the center and guard to combo up to the linebackers against. Sir Calvin Wallace comes to mind as a guy who could potentially see a lot of snaps at the nose eating up the blocks, but we need at least two others who could rotate at nose. On the other hand, Syd Moore, Alex Lincoln, Brandon Mccoy, and Ryan Boutwell would be really good fits as 3-4 defensive ends (3 techniques) and Chad Polk would be well suited for the Jack/Leo position. Think the position that Demarcus Ware plays as a standup defensive end/linebacker in the 3-4. Bellazin could be pretty effective as a standup pass rusher as well. Only downside about the 3-4 is it's pretty complicated to learn but we could have some 3-4 packages put in to utilize our strengths, as you said.
  14. Wow! This is huge. If family health is the reason for the transfer he could be eligible to play this year. I know, we're North Texas so don't hold your breath.
  15. There's some good high school football played in Murfreesboro. Oakland and Blackman high school are pretty consistent producers of SEC talent.
  16. Got it. As many local recruits as we have we should get a lot of unofficial visits.
  17. Are you sure they aren't allowed contact? I thought the only difference was that recruits can't have anything paid for on an unofficial. Either way, it should be interesting to watch this class grow especially if we have success this year. A couple of solid building blocks for a class that could be a breakthrough one for us.
  18. Along way until signing day 2014. As long as the player is still being recruited by other schools it is hard to call anyone a true solid commit. Don't forget to take into account that this is Memorial Day weekend. He hasn't been in school since he committed.
  19. I enjoyed it. Good read and pretty accurate.
  20. Many on this board are college football fans in general. We follow the sport as a whole, just Mean Green Football the most. This is big news considering this guy led his team to the national championship game last year and I would imagine more people on this board watched that game than a lot of our road games this year. I do agree that throwing him under the bus is unnecessary.
  21. He's too young for the supplemental draft.
  22. Too good to be true for you too? Kinda surprised Vito doesn't have anything new yet.
  23. Such a huge benefit of having early commits. Especially those whose high school team is littered with D1 athletes.
  24. I see four players that for sure will not redshirt: Syd Moore, Darvin Kidsy, Chad Davis, and Wylie Reinhardt. Other than those guys I see the other 9 true freshman redshirting, with the occasional special teams contributor. I believe both Syd Moore and Darvin Kidsy will be starters before the year is over, but to pick just one I'll say Syd Moore. Absolute animal and the definition of a steal in recruiting. His high school highlights, albeit against 3A competition, really were spectacular. Great get off the ball, relentless pursuit, and plays with his hands very well for a high schooler. Even though height is one of his weaknesses as a prospect, I'd like to see Syd line up at defensive end at some point during his time here. His highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1333525/sydrick-moore Really hope he makes it to campus.
